Oh for a glass of wine!

I cannot believe that it is a Saturday night and I have not succumbed to a glass of wine with dinner, but I am so determined to change my habits. Not that I am going to always deny myself, but over indulgence at Christmas time did not help with my weight. Anybody else out there having a dry(ish) January? If so I wish you well!

I generally drink about a bottle of wine spread over 3 or four nights. I am sure this is not too bad but it does rise at holiday times. It is a lot of calories though so I am wondering if it is worth it, but I do enjoy wine with a nice meal.

I think you were right to stop as that was too much. I am glad you have regained control. I am not sure I want to give up but I am planning to only have one glass a week when I have a special meal. Good luck, and I do know you were not being judgemental. We all need to have a good think about what we are eating and drinking, and that is why we are on this site.

Would a glass of cherry & cinnamon fruit tea help - same colour, and no calories! We have to play "let's pretend" sometimes....

MMM! I do not have that but I do have cranberry tea. I will give it a go. Thanks for advice!

I'm just discovering all the fruit teas around. Also the green teas with fruit added. They are my new sweets. A newspaper or magazine and box of 'treat' teas; determined to cut out sweet negative eats and drinks, really enjoying the water. Started that from 1st January body got used to it now, skin feels very soft. Not a fizzy drinker but did like lemon squash.

I have completed my first dry Saturday of January. I've been busy getting little jobs done this evening. Had a soft drink in a wine glass whilst cooking tea. X

Well done Slimpicking I had some slimline tonic water and a squirt of lemon plus a slice pretended it was a Gin & Tonic and it worked.

I sometimes do that. I call it a T & T. I prefer lime though!

Well done, big achievement. It will get easier, especially not so many adverts on tv about food and drink for Christmas and New Year. I am on day 'dry 11' and don't want to break the pattern. If you do feel so desperate and you get as far as pouring wine into glass, stop and wait 5 minutes, same for food, the craving will pass and you will turn your back on it.

Well done :) You obviously don't generally drink to excess anyway, but a month without will definitely save you some calories if you've gained weight over Christmas.

BTW I love your username! It reminds me of Catherine Cookson novel titles :)

Kate :)

Thanks Kate, I would not say I do anything to excess but bit by bit the weight has crept up. Hopefully I can reverse the trend!
