I'm considering trying this approach and was wondering, if you have tried it, how did you find it and did it work for you?

Yes I have tried it, there is a community on this site called low carb high fat and you can visit numerous websites that recommend this way of eating.

I found it was very good for weight loss but would not recommend the high fat levels that some aim for. I found that keeping a carbohydrate intake to below 50gms per day worked well, as well as calorie counting to make sure I did not over eat - so kept to around 1600 calories a day for weight loss.

Eventually you will settle on what suits you best but start by cutting out things like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes and get your carbs from fresh vegetables.

Good luck.

I'm also trying to follow low carb diet and aim to keep my carbs under 50g... not been very successful over xmas but hoping to get back know track again today x

Hello, I haven't tried it, and, I must say, it sounds utterly vile - doesn't it give you really bad breath?!

I think it is worth keeping carbs under control, as for many of us they are easy to over-eat, but surely this is rather extreme?

I always think of Laurence Olivier when talking to Dustin Hoffman about "the method", saying "why not just try acting? It's much easier!". For us tubbies, why not just try eating healthily, that's much easier than trying to stick to an extreme diet.

The ketogenic diet can work well for some people, for example if you are morbidly obese and have health issues, such as type 2 diabetes. My husband successfully followed a low carb diet to reverse his pre-diabetic state.

The Authority Nutrition site is a useful one for information.

The diet doesn't suit everyone. Having tried it, I find I do better on a moderately low amount of carbs.

I'm eight weeks in because I'm doing it with my wife who has it prescribed as a medical protocol for her thyroid and adrenal conditions. It's absolutely amazing. I've lost a stone and feel maybe ten years younger (and not particularly from weight loss as I didn't really feel I needed to lose) - my whole body feels calmer, warmer, more energy in reserve. I'm never hungry and have had no cravings for any of the awful things I used to eat before I got woken up ;)
