Hungrier close to target weight?

Hungrier and increased cravings close to target weight why is this and what can I do? am about five pounds off my target

How do I find my maintenance level?

I agree. Concerned has offered sound advice by suggesting an increase in the consumption of natural fat to improve satiety, which will also increase calorie intake closer to the amount needed to maintain current weight.

As for figuring out the amount of calories needed to satisfy your maintenance level, ascertain your current BMR and TDEE, opting to consume sufficient calories needed to satisfy TDEE for a couple of weeks (maintenance) before reducing intake by 100-200Kcal.

(Let me know if you’d like the equations to calculate the above).

Given that you’re only 5lbs away from target weight, if you’ve continued to eat close to BMR (or recommended minimum), that’ll explain the increased hunger cravings.

Yes could you help me with the equation for those please? also do you mean I should be eating a little more than minimum? nhs recommend 1500-1900 I try to eat 1600-1700 but I do find 1600 harder hunger wise

I get increased hunger if the weather gets cold! So I eat broth type soup - or just a teaspoon of boullion in a mug of water..... love it, but then I've got a salty tooth! Ohhhh, now I want some....

I did a bit of rooting around in scientific journals like the Lancet etc recently and it seems that when we lose fat from our bodies, we are programmed to try and replace it. Our bodies respond as if we are starving and increase the level of hormones that stimulate our appetite and decrease the level of hormones that let us know that we have eaten enough and so we eat more and put weight back on.

Several studies recently have found that the level of these hormones resets if you can maintain your new, lower weight for 12 months. Until then it seems we are pretty much fighting our bodies to keep the weight off.

I like the suggestion from Concerned; anything that sends a signal to your body that you aren't starving can only be a good thing.

I'm not great with technology so can't put in the links, but it is pretty easy to find information via a google search.

Maintaining weight
