Looking for Motivation!

Hi, I'm 43 and I've known for the past 12 months that I have to lose weight ..... about 4 stone!! I can't seem to get motivated or stick to anything and with 2 kids that eat anything and everything it's so difficult .... I just need someone to do this with and share ideas.

I love chocolate and giving it up is a nightmare but things have to change and I don't want to wait for the new year when I'll feel even worse after Christmas so I'm going to give it a go.

Hi leamillinchip,

Welcome to the NHS Weight Loss Forum here on HealthUnlocked - this forum is a great place for support, motivation and inspiration to lose weight.

Take a look at the NHS 12 Week Plan, it contains recipes and exercise plans to follow for the first twelve weeks of your journey. :D

Take a look at the left of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile device) and find the 'Pinned Posts' section, here you can find the 'Welcome Newbie' post, various challenges that are going on in the forum (take part in whatever ones take your fancy - if any do at all!), there is also a recipe collation there and any important posts from Admin :)

Also to your left is the 'Topics' area, here you can find posts related to each topic, it's good if you are looking for something specific :)

The Monday Group Weigh In takes place weekly and is posted alternately by Zest and moreless (I suggest you follow them, they are also our site admins), a morning session post is put live just before 06:30 and runs until midday, while the afternoon session runs from midday until 18:00 on the Friday of that week - it'll be running as tomorrow, so, if you wish, you can go and post your starting weight there :)

We also run a badges system on the forum, you can start with the ‘Newbie’ badge and then work you way up to 7lbs and then in 1 stone increments, they are also avaliable in Kgs too. If you would like a badge, just let Lowcal or moreless know :)

All that remains is to wish you a great first week on the forum - be involved because it's where we get our boost each day :P

Rob :)

Hiya. perhaps write down three reasons why you want to change your lifestyle and stick them on a kitchen cupboard. make them exciting fun ones preferably and positive - like 'id love to wear nice clothes and feel good in them' 'id love to be able to enjoy walking' etc.

You dont have to give up chocolate! do you like dark chocolate? you could have a couple squares of that melted over a baked or raw banana. if youre counting cals just figure it in. obviously not quite as enjoyable as eating a whole bar but a good compromise.

Good luck!

Xx

I lost 3st 13.5 lb starting last Nov and reaching goal and beyond by May. looking back I think main reason was giving up alcohol, I also gave up choc and cake and counted calories . I kept to under 1000 by not having any sugar so the cravings went. Now a year on I am within 1lb of goal today, as we were at party Sat night and I had 3 glasses of mulled wine which I love and xmas cake so today its back counting to lose that pound straightaway. Real thrill for me was buying a jump suit in a size 12 which fitted perfectly, well it did Sat am!! So go for it get a notebook and start by writing everything down you will soon see where you are adding calories good luck

Hi, I have been doing a paleo diet and it is working so far. I eat loads of veg and protein such as chicken and don't feel hungry. Its hard in the run up to Christmas, so much chocolate around at work. Once you decide to start, stick to it and celebrate every pound dropping off. GOOD LUCK! i have 9 more stone to lose, we can do it together!
