Determined not to be fat and 50!

Hi, I woke on my 35th birthday to find I was 3stone overweight, I've spent the past 10 yrs trying to loose it. I was a gym member; step aerobics, zumba, swimming but couldn't get it off. Happily married it was clearly my lack of portion control which contributed to my contentment love handles.

Three weeks ago I discovered this free NHS Weight-loss website and wondered why I had wasted money on slimming world and the like. I'm on a 12 week plan to lose as much weight as I can on 1,400 calories a day. It's not easy, I met up with work colleagues on Thursday for dinner at Ask and have just totted up how many calories I consumed - not too far over 1,400; December is not a good time to lose weight but there's also no time like the present. I've lost 3lbs over the past 3 weeks and am determined to get back to being my old self weight-wise, only I can do that, it's within my power. Fingers crossed for me and good luck to all those fighting the flab in a world full of temptation!!

Hi JulesBe,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. I hope you'll enjoy being part of this community. I can see you've already started the NHS 12 week plan. I was wondering if you put your stats into the NHS BMI calculator, because if you do that, then it will take account of the amount of exercise and activity you do, and also ensure you have a range of calories to eat within, and you might find you can have more than 1,400 - it's definitely worth checking, if you want to, and the link for the NHS BMI calculator is here if you want to have a look:

Have you read our Welcome Newbie post yet? It's worth a read, and it's in the Pinned posts area. Maybe join us for the Monday group weigh-in tomorrow, if you fancy being in a supportive and friendly weigh-in group.

You'd be very welcome to join us, and indeed, there are many Challenges going on in the forum currently - so do have a look at the Pinned posts for details.

Have a really great week.

Lowcal :-)

Thanks Lowcal. I read your newbie welcome post. it wasn't cold at all. Not sure I completely understood how to get the newbie badge, if you could help with that I'd appreciate it.

Also I haven't used the BMI calculator because I don't believe a few measurements can determine how many calories I should consumer, I think we're all individuals and therefore have individual metabolic rates; more than 1400 calories and I'll find it impossible to lose weight. is it OK to skip the BMI stats thing?

Cheers
