Help for a picky eater?

I'm completely new to this. I knew I was on the hefty side and had to lose weight but always put it off. When I went to the doctor to get contraceptives, she commented that maybe I should start seriously considering it. Being 24 years old with a BP of 131/83 and a BMI of 27.2, well.... I need to start now before it gets worse.

The only problem is, I really hate vegetables and leaves. Rocket and mushrooms make me sick, I've always hated the taste of onion. The only salad I eat is Caesar. The only veggies I really eat is peas and carrots.

Is there any advice you can give to help me to make eating veggies a little easier?

Thank you so much.

Hi and welcome

There is loads of foods you can eat - you just need to start trying different foods to see if you like them

Personally there are foods I detest, like sweet potato - but will eat normal potato - you just have to look and try different foods

I never used to eat fruit (well rarely as in once a year etc, I am now eating alot more fruit of different sorts)

Good luck on your journey - you can do this :)

Heya. do you like cooking? can you make dishes that 'hide' the veg, or meals like bolognese or lasagne where you can chop veg up really small, and disguise the taste with meat?

Maybe also add a little tasty fat to your veg like butter or gravy.

Maybe you could associate veg with nice flavours, so like have a tiny bit of spinach or whatver with your fave dish.

The River Cottage Veg Everyday recipe book might be useful.

Also perhaps stirfries as they have lots of flavour, especially with a coconutty lemongrass sauce (yum) and you can mix the veg up with the meat or prawns.

Good luck! xx

Raw vegetables can trouble you, so try dry ginger powder/black pepper with vegetables. Dry ginger powder or black pepper will help to your digestive system to tolerate vegetables..

Hi Kib☺

Just from personal experience, I'd say start with the veg and fruit (if you eat them) you really like and have more of these, try preparing them differently each time to keep it interesting. Fruit smoothies are worth a try.
