Getting Started

Last month I decided enough was enough. I've been on the larger side all my life, but my weight hit a new high and I wasn't feeling healthy in myself, wasn't sleeping right, and just wasn't enjoying life to the fullest. So three weeks ago I completely changed my diet - cut out "white carbs" (white bread, potatoes, white rice, wheat pasta) and started eating less processed/packaged foods and doing meal prepping at the weekend. In just three weeks I've lost 13lbs - I've never been so excited! I just signed myself up to the gym yesterday, going to start going to classes and really try my hardest to keep shedding the pounds. If anyone has any suggestions for what classes I might enjoy most, please let me know! :)

Well done you on taking such positive steps! You should already feel good about yourself for making the decision to change.

I used to go to the gym often and loved- legs bums and tums, boxer-cise, aqua aerobics (I love aqua aerobics the most I think as it's so gentle on your body the following day and it's lots of fun) and steppercise (lots of hopping on and off an exercise step and building easy dance moves around it) :) the gym I went to let me hop in and out of the beginning of some classes to see if I liked it so I didn't have to commit to 45 minutes of something I hated - would your gym let you do this? I think it's a good idea to try everything because you never know what you'll enjoy!

Thanks for the tips! My gym does a step class and quite a few aqua aerobics sessions, so I'll definitely check those out. Boxer-cise sounds fun too! :)

Hi E-sparkles, that is a lovely story...well done!

I was in a similar place when I decided to act and joined this forum, and have now lost a stone. It's a great feeling to realise that it is within your power to make changes and improve your health and life!

No advice on the sport as such, I like swimming myself, and in the past I used to love yoga. Obviously yoga isn't an aerobic exercise but it is excellent for toning and building strength, and for flexibility of course.

Anyways, wishing you all the best for more weight loss progress.

Onwards and downwards as we say around here!

:-)

Thank you! :) I'll definitely try out yoga, my gym has a few classes over the week for that. x

I love classes, try as many as you can, even the same classes with different instructors, Zumba is great fun but remember lots of the class will have been doing it for years so it takes a while to get the moves. Body pump is great for toning, insanity is a good all round work out, and spin will give you shapely legs. Take it at your own pace and heed any levels of difficulty, so build up rather than diving in, GOOD LUCK,and let us know how you get on

I gave BodyCombat a try today, it was loads of fun! And I'm booking a Zumba class for the weekend, looking forward to it now! :)
