Hi, I feel old and fat!

Hello I'm new and just found and downloaded the NHS 12 week weight loss plan. My BMI is 28.5 and I need to lose 1.5 st. This weight gain has been gradual but the last 1/2st was in the last month due to inactivity following surgery. I've been in this situation before about 15 years ago but this time it seems more scary due to age related stiffness of joints and retirement resulting in a lack of motivation, but I'm determined to do it and my first goal is to lose some weight for a mini holiday to Portugal in December.

Hi Innringer,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. Great that you've downloaded the NHS 12 week plan, and I hope you'll enjoy it, and I'd like to wish you success with your weight loss goals. Great that you've got a mini holiday to Portugal to look forward to and work towards in December.

I'd recommend reading our Welcome Newbie post, as it's very inspiring. Hope you join in with any Challenges you like the look of in the forum, and maybe join us for the Monday group weigh-in, if you'd like to be part of a weekly weigh-in.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Lowcal,

Thanks for the welcome and kind words. I've read the Welcome Newbie post and was thinking about joining the Monday group weigh-in but not sure how it works.

Thanks again

Hi Innringer,

Here is a link to the latest Monday group weigh-in thread - have a read and especially look at the 'notes for newbies' section - then if you want to, you can either join today, by replying to the thread - if you do this before 18 00 today (Friday 14th October 2016) then you'd be counted in this week's stats, but if you prefer to wait for the next Monday weigh-in (i.e. Monday 17th October 2016) then that's fine too - I'll be posting that thread - myself and moreless take turns to post it each Monday.

You'd be very welcome to join us, at whatever time is convenient for you, so it's an option to consider.

Have a lovely weekend, it's nearly here!

Hi there!

You'll be glad to know you have found just the right place.

I had about the same amount to loose and am a stone down so far. I'm doing this through diet changes rather than exercise. I log everything I eat and drink so keep myself on the straight and narrow path 😊

There are Monday weigh-ins which are very motivational - hope you to see you there!

Hi,

I'm trying to do the same now and also trying to do some exercise but motivating myself is difficult!

How do the Monday weigh-ins work?

Firstly, follow Zest and moreless who take it in turns to post a new thread on Monday am and pm. You just reply on the thread with as much information as you feel comfortable giving. Usually a lot of people join in and it's really inspiring 😊

Hi Innringer. I am new here as well & have the same BMI & weight loss goal. I've also been through surgery several years ago that limits some exercise.

I made a start a couple of days ago. I've cut out bread & potatoes & am reducing my portion sizes. Also made lots of batches of homemade soup which are filling for lunch. The weather isn't helping encourage me to exercise but I'm trying to get out & walk 3 miles a day. That's my goal anyway.

Hope you can kick start your diet & find this site useful.

Hi,

Sounds like we're on a similar journey and tackling it in a similar way. I've cut out potatoes and lots of bread but not all and trying to cut down on portion size. I try to exercise and walk on alternate days but I go on time of walking rather than distance so 3miles seems a long way to me!!! I walk at a brisk pace for about 40 mins but not sure how far that is, don't think it's 3 miles though!

I'm going to join the monday weigh-ins if I can work out how it all works!

Having support from people all in the same boat seems to help.

Hope to see you there

Hi. Well done on the walking. I think if you're walking a brisk pace you're probably doing about two & a half miles. I work on a normal pace being a 20 minute mile.

I'll have a go at the weigh in as well. As you say if I can work it out 😂

Keep going over the weekend!!

Just got back from my "brisk" walk :-) and I must say it didn't feel like 2 and a half miles but I suppose it could be. That's a bonus then for me.....:-)

To join in the weigh in follow Lowcal and moreless because one of them post every monday. See you there!
