Hiya. First off please dont feel like its your fault, when you have depression and anxiety it really saps your motivation to do anything. Are you under a doctor and being treated? Please be kind to yourself, it might be wise to focus on your mental health for now, and not pressure yourself to lose weight. Once your mood and anxiety is more under control, you will most likely find weight loss gets naturally easier.

Hugs,

Hedgehog xx

Thank you for your reply, it means a lot to me. It’s difficult to tell people who l know as they don’t really understand.

Dear Bambiekins, I totally understand how you feel. And I also agree with albinohedgehog - it is not your fault, but I know how easy it is to blame yourself - I did, for the past 10 years. It is not a shame to ask for help. It is difficult, but not impossible. Hey, impossible=I'm possible!

Absolutely ask for help!

The lack of motivation is a symptom of depression - it kills your ability to do things including the things that are necessary and good for you. It doesn't matter how much you tell yourself you need to eat healthy or exercise more, the depression will try to hold you back.

It's a most terrible and destructive illness and needs expert help to tackle it, just like any other illness.

Failure is a powerful word, unfortunately in these times it stands for a very negative manner, very demeaning, but ask yourself what is failure and turn it around, don't just focus on the negative, try to see the other side.

Look deep inside yourself and ask what did I do, did I think about loosing weight, did I try? Did I set a goal. Well even when you so called failed you didn't, you just looked at it wrong.

You did it once, you made a choice to change something, let the be the foundation, sometimes the bricks don't fit perfectly but if you keep trying they eventually will fit.

That is what makes us human. :)

You only fail when you give up. And it doesn't sound like you have. It's just a bump in the road. You'll start to feel more motivated when the depression lifts. I find that talking therapies help me and long walks in the daylight if possible, but GP will probably be able to recommend things specifically for you. Good luck x

Anxiety and depression together with weight gain may suggest thyroid issues. I would suggest asking your GP to do blood tests for ferritin, tsh,t4 and t3 as well as vitamin d and B12 then post your results on the thyroid uk, another health unlocked forum. Do you get tired as well. Thyroid issues are not always picked up by blood tests and GPs often miss them. . You have not failed because you have not given up yet. That is demonstrated by you writing and sending the post. Maybe explore if you can do a minfullness course near you, they are sometimes available on NHS and good for weight loss, anxiety and deppression.

I feel for you. I suffer with anxiety and depression and use food as an emotional crutch. That and PCOS makes losing weight so difficult. As others have said, you have not given up and that is admirable. Sometimes I have to just congratulate myself for getting up in the morning, doing a day at work and caring for my son and accept that there's no more mental energy left for calorie counting and no more physical energy to exercise. I have accepted that my weight loss journey will be a long, hard bumpy one but all I can do is keep trying. Good luck on your journey.

Please don't so hard on yourself I'm exactly in the same position trying to eat healthy to get my weight down. I tend to eat low fat meals but next thing when I'm feeling really low I'm comfort eating, ice cream or chocolate. I'ts not easy a the best of times but when depression in the the mix it can be made harder. Sending hugs

Hi Bambiekins, I have just recently returned to work on a phased return after 4 months off sick. I had constant headaches varying in intensity, nausea and the worst part dizziness/feeling like I was going to fall over. After blood tests and a CT scan the doctor diagnosed chronic tension headache brought on by stress/anxiety and depression. At the start of me being off work I just ate anything I could manage, usually unhealthy stuff. I told myself I may need a sugar boost so I would eat lots of chocolate and biscuits, or I would bake buns then eat most of them myself! Over the previous 18 months I had lost 2st 10lbs with slimming world and in just 4 weeks I put 1st of that back on. I was aimlessly looking at the internet one day and ended up on here! Fantastic site, lovely people and lots of people in the same boat - lots of different circumstances, but all with one aim. If you haven't been to the doctor yet, please go and see them. Don't worry about it, there's lots of us around and it's nothing the doctor hasn't seen or heard before! I'm on some tablets and have been enrolled onto an online counselling course. I am now starting to lose the weight again, and enjoying my diet being less restrictive than slimming world! Hope you start to feel a bit better soon, just remember, it's a slow process but it will get better😊

Thank you everyone your messages mean so much. I have a history of depression and have been on antidepressants for a number of years on and off. Currently the most recent GP visit recommend a life time of tablets .
