Hi I've gradually put on weight since moving to Leeds and starting my PhD, about 10kg overweight, trying to run/cycle weight off whilst avoiding the biscuits!

It is hard when you are studying. I put on weight at university. It is frustrating because studying does mean quite a lot of sitting. The exercise you are doing sounds marvellous but many of us have found it necessary to count calories as well. I wish you luck

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum; I hope you'll enjoy being active here and you'll learn loads and make some friends too. :)

Good luck with your weight loss journey and please take time to read the welcome thread as there are links there to other threads that are full of advice. :) Take it one day at a time and you'll be fine. :)

Hello and welcome 😊 Well done on the exercise! Leeds is a great city and in a most beautiful county ❤️ Lots of walking opportunities 😊

Unfortunately, they say you cant out run a bad diet, and eating less is more important than exercise when ur comes to weight loss 😕 And sweet stuff is hard to resist, especially biscuits!! 😜 But you can do it! Come one here and chat to us instead 😊

I have found myfitnesspal very helpful to just help me make sure I am not eating too much. Have you any other symptoms or is it just weight gain. When I was in overeaters anonymous it was noticed that people would gain weight when under stress. Something to do with cortisol levels, excerise in countryside is great for reducing stress as is meditation. I have downloaded some meditations from wildmind that are very good and am trying to build it into my very busy days. Also in over eater anon it was found that if people made a significant decision in thier lives that freed them from chronic stress they would lose weight without reducing eating. Similarly people like myself who had been losing weight started to regain it when under stress. When my mother became terminally ill. I gained about 3 stone in 2 months eating the same way as I had for years and running 15 miles a week.

Hi kitkatabc 😀 welcome to this very friendly forum you have definitely come to the right place for motivation and advice 👍

Alot of us follow the nhs12wk plan which will give you alot of information about changing your eating and exercise habits for life. It's not a diet and the occasional biscuit is allowed 😆

Good luck and keep us posted on your journey.
