Hi everyone, I am new to this site. My weight is piling on each week. Can anyone advise how they deal with weekends and social events as that's my biggest problem. Thanks

First week - how to still have a life?
Hi u22las,
I eat out a lot at weekends and at various functions and have so far managed to lose 3 stone despite this and never left anywhere feeling hungry. Firstly, I try to plan in advance to check out menus and nutritional information so I can calorie count in advance; if there is a healthy option I choose that. If there isn't, I basically order pretty much what I want (but steer clear of high calorie side orders like chips and fried rice) and only eat half. I then ask for a takeaway container to put the other half in and have it for lunch the following day. Calorie counting and forward planning have really helped me because if I try to make healthy choices on the spur of the moment, it simply doesn't work but I can stick to a plan without any difficulty. Buffets are a problem; my strategy there is to hoover up as much salad as possible and also lean meat but I avoid puds altogether. I also only allow myself a maximum of two visits to a buffet and make a mental note not to overload my plate. I rarely drink alcohol these days because, quite frankly, I prefer to use my calories up on food than booze. If you like a drink, again, check your calorie intake and plan in advance what you are going to allow yourself and stick to it. I often choose a pint of soda water or a glass of diet coke or even a cup of coffee. I have had to have a system because if I declared a "treat day" every time I went out etc then almost every day would be a treat day and I would never have lost an ounce. Also if there is dancing to be done, it takes your mind off food! I hope this helps and after a short while, the healthy changes you make to your lifestyle just become part of your normal way of living and no effort at all. Good luck and hope you have a lovely time x
