Hi and welcome to the forum. You will always find support and encouragement here. I am 76 and was finding it well nigh impossible to shift weight but found this forum and am now approaching my first stone loss. Good luck.

Welcome aboard. Several of us 'seniors' on here with ailments as well as weight issues. The advice and support on here have changed the lives for many of us, including myself. I lost my entire surplus 30 lbs and have maintained for eighteen months so it can be done, and I'm 64. Good luck you can do this!

Thank you for your kind wishes. My work involves sitting at a computer all day - so I guess I need to build in some movement. I also have easy access to snacks - not a good thing.

well done, you have found us. You are not alone, there's plenty of help here, and I m sure the health issues will improve with weight loss. I am almost 64. I am 1lb away from my first stone, and i have another 39 lbs to go. Its taken me since May to get this far, but I m fine with it. Good luck 🍀 xx

Hi and welcome Jessika11 :)

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread, it has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a guide to healthy living, rather that a specific diet plan.

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have.

Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the monday group weigh-in. If you follow Zest and myself, you'll be notified when we post the threads. However, the latest thread can always be found in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration :)

Wishing you all the very best :)

All the best to you. 😊

Hi there. Definitely came to the right place. It's hard to find "head space" when your working, but if you read the threads its full of inspiration. I hope it goes well - be kind to yourself if it doesn't always go as planned!!

As you are type 2 diabetic what meds are you on, if any? You should also have a look at the diabetes.org.uk website and if you haven't already done so, try and get your diabetic team to send you on the xperthealth.org.uk training sessions, it helps show you how to deal with the diabetes and helps learn about carbs and how to reduce them in your diet, that in itself helps towards weightloss. Are you on statins for cholesterol? I know there is a lot of bad press about them but I've been on them for nearly 5 years with no side effects but I have also adjusted my diet by making sure that I eat as healthily as possible.

I took early retirement 5 years ago and will be 65 in December, can't imagine still working now!

Hi, I am on Metformin (Diabex). I am 60kg but as I am only 148cm in height, I am still about 10 kg overweight. I am thinking about dropping back my work to 4 days a week next year. My husband retired a few years ago. He is only 2 years older than me and is pre-diabetic.

Hi Jessika11. What you're facing is what we're all facing in one area or another.

I found myself being placed on 2 working days due to a poor decision by management. It's been a blessing in disguise - I've started to think about myself for a change. I'm taking steps to improve my health with healthier foods plus I've taken up tennis again. In a couple of weeks I'll also be returning to ballroom dancing! My life is taking off again and I'm looking forward to dropping the remaining 2 working days :-)

I encourage you to consider wisely about taking part-time in the not too-distant future. You won't be sorry. I've always had a strong work ethic but once I was working less hours I finally discovered how drained I'd allowed myself to become.

So be nice to yourself and remember..... people on this site care about each other.

Best wishes whatever you decide.

I have been thinking about what you wrote - over the last couple of days. I think I will ask to drop to 4 days next year and go down by a day over the next couple of years. I find 5 days quite exhausting. I am lucky that I am a permanent employee and can drop back days - provided the boss agrees - without it affecting my permanent status. We have so many young ones on contracts - they would be only too happy to pick up a day or so.

That's great to hear! Best wishes for a balanced life ;-)

HI You are not alone. I have been going through the same thing but by making small changes I have started to lose weight and this in turn by being better controlled in my diabetes made me feel better. If I slip up one day then I just start again as any weight off is better than any weight gain however small

I already feel less alone. I am hoping that as I lose some weight the diabetes will be less of an issue.
