Now I've never been a runner have been a little sporty so do you think I challange myself to this but do power walking instead of jogging .

Lizzy 70 Yes I believe you could. You can do anything you set your mind too.

Did you see it on the Olympics? I was mesmorised by the rolling gait the competitors used it was incredible however lots of yellow and red cards given out for not using the correct technique. I believe that there are rules about feet being on the floor.

I dont run or power walk however there are others on this site that can give you better advice than me.

It sounds like a great idea to me, Lizzy70. Anything that gets us motivated and up off our couches, has to be a good thing :)

Maybe Caz28 and Hidden can give you some pointers, as I believe them to be very successful and enthusiastic, power walkers :)

I dread the very thought of running at my current weight. Too many wobbly bits. I guess do what you're comfortable with and makes you feel like you've had a decent workout. Nothing better than giving yourself a challenge and crushing it. Go for it.

That's my worry wobbly bits so I will armour myself with my sports bra and my good old support knickers to try hold some in for me !!lol

I'm 6 stones overweight last time I run was at school before I took up the c25k run, I'm doing w9r2 today and feel better for it. give it a try, You can do it don't underestimate yourself. You'll get lots of support from here.

I'm also NOT a runner, but I'm on run 3 of week 1 and It's really doable. Give it a try and if you're not convinced you could take up power walking. I'm 3.5 stone overweight and wobbly😀

I too was overweight when I started c25k. I was convinced that I was not a runner but this plan is brilliant and I graduated a while ago. Don't underestimate what you can do. Why not power walk some of the sections and then try a little jog now and again and see how you get on. You may surprise yourself!

Anything that gets us moving is a massive bonus to our weight loss journey 🏃

I got to week 3 on the couch to 5k and the only reason i stopped was time! Family and work commitments got in the way. When the kids return to school im going to start again x3 mornings a week 👟

I cant say i am a runner (mainly fast walking😆) but the c25k will give you a good platform to start. Its structured - walk - run - walk - run and each week running a little longer. I really loved it and felt so energised 😀

Dont worry what other people think. When i allways see someone running i think 'good on ya for getting on with it' and if u ask alot of people its the same reaction 😆

I was never a runner and hated all the sports at school that involved it. Over 2 years ago I started c25k and 3 weeks in, a so called friend entered me for a marathon as a 59th birthday present! So I graduated at the end of March that year and began marathon training.

In the August I walked and jogged the 26.2 miles of the marathon. Unfortunately during last autumn I had a couple of injuries and stopped running and have now started to get back into it. I was only going to my Jog Scotland group once a week, having got out of the habit of regular running.

Last week I got the podcasts out again and went back to week four. Today is week 5 run 2 and I am looking forward to it.

It's great for toning muscles and along with the weight loss 12 week plan, changed my shape completely.

Go for it and have a little jog.

Hi Lizzy,

I'm not a runner I've tried it and it's not clicked for me but I do know how successful many many others have been when starting the C25k.

When I started my weight loss journey I started doing short walks to get me moving😃 After a few months I was able to walk for longer and at a better pace and best of all really enjoyed it !!

Now I power walk, I plan my route and go for it 🏃. I start slowly but soon get into stride moving my arms as well( hope that not sounds daft !!)

I'm very lucky to have a huge open moor and a large park near where I live so it is so relaxing once I'm off the main road to just walk and think😎

Give it a try don't do too much build it up take a bit of music with you if it helps😃

So looking forward to hearing how you get on, and most importantly just enjoy😃

Hi, I'm 59 and have to be very careful with a back problem as the last thing I want is for that to flare up! Running would put too much impact strain on it, so I walk - sounds straightforward, everyone walks, but there are so many different ways to do it, all using different muscles and getting you fitter. Brisk walking is great for burning calories, I don't do the bum wiggling weird power walking the athletes do, but I do walk fast and pump my arms! It's important to start steady, warm up and build up like any other form of exercise. Check out videos on you tube, some, like Leslie Sansones you can do indoors for days when the weather is particularly bad, or you don't have much time. Others give you hints and tips on 'power walking'. It's great to get outdoors and just walk, breathe the fresh air, enjoy the scenery, good for the soul as well as the body. I regularly do between 5 and 8 miles a day now and there is no one more surprised than me! Give it a go, good luck!

My doctor has banned me from jogging and running (bad knees), but power walking sounds like a good thing. Go for it!

Hi Lizzy

Power walking is great so there is no need to actually do the couch to 5k. Just get ones bottom out there and for 30 minutes a day walk away in a focused power mode. Exercise needn't be hard. In fact all you need to do is raise your heart rate. So long as you can hear your breath then you are going fast enough. I run long distance now, around 16-20 miles most Sunday's yet when I finish I am not panting. That is because I am going at a pace that I can sustain for long periods. Any faster then I would stop as I'd be bloomin knackered......

Thanks for sharing this Lizzy70. I hate running - I prefer to have my feet firmly planted on the floor thank you, but never thought of power walking. I'm definitely going to try it too.
