My Healthy Weight Loss Plan

My Healthy Weight Loss Plan

Hi everyone,

Here's my story. I've tried various diets over the years but have always struggled to do regular exercise. Back in 2009 I managed to get down to 17 st. Due to a job change with very little exercise needed, long hrs I was just over 23.5 st.

Last week was a wake up call, I need to motivate myself and succeed for good. I've cut out nearly all the crisps I used to eat replacing with fresh fruit. I've also started walking my 2 westie dogs at least once a day but more often twice. Just with these small changes I've already lost half a stone in just over a week.

I feel with other gradual changes I can achieve my goal. I would love to be 17 st tomorrow but I know with my current mind set I will get back to 17 st again and maybe even less. My BMI says my ideal weight is 13.5 st but I'm sure I could be healthy at maybe 15 st.

My next plan is to find a 24 hr gym so I can fit it in around my job.

Good to read so many great stories on here and wish everyone else success on thier journey to a healthier lifestyle.

  • Hello Phillsgood75

You will receive an official welcome soon but in the meantime check out the Newbies pinned post 😊 Also find your target calorie allowance by working out you BMR, this is often higher than people think and leads to a sustainable eating plan for long term success 😊

The biggest thing I have learnt is that weight loss does not have to mean starvation or deprivation, 😊

Have a good weekend, I love dog walking too 😊 Good luck!

  • Hi Phill I am currently on week 11 of the 12 week plan so far have lost 23lbs and it has been relatively easy, the plan really changes your way of thinking, you can have treats now and then but you do think twice about them.

I too have 2 dogs but one of them takes me for a walk mostly but I also walk on the treadmill and have a fit bit to record stats but many more on the market at the moment jaw bone is on Amazon really cheap.

I am sure you will do well with your current mindset and you have proven you can do it so good luck we are all here to help just shout if you need any 👍😊 Bev

  • Hi, great to hear you are making those changes. Your head is in the right place - you're positive, that's half the battle over. Little tip. By all means try and find a gym but have a look at fitness blender on you tube - their videos are for every level, great and free :-)

Fantastic loss for your first week. Patience is key with weight loss - it's why many give up with lifestyle and food changes. Looking forward to hearing your progress :-D

  • It sounds like you've made a great start! Your dogs are a great 24 hour gym right there :)

If you don't want to give up crisps completely, you might want to try making your own. This avoids the oils, preservatives and tons of salt as they are fresh and you can control the seasoning. People make them from all kinds of vegetables (I like sweet potato crisps the best), just baking thin slices of vegetables and sprinkling them with some seasoning. Satisfying crunch, without the oils and preservatives.

My favourite crisp alternatives are actually made from meat. It works best with low quality ready sliced meats (e.g. Tesco chicken roll), probably because they include skin and stuff that helps them crisp. I cut each slice of the roll into six equal-ish triangles and spread them out on a baking tray (or on the George Foreman grill). I sprinkle with lots of paprika, bake on a low-medium heat for 10-15 minutes (until they're mostly dried out, but not quite). They crisp up a little more as they cool, so if you leave them until they feel like crisps they'll be overdone when they cool.

As it is essentially just chicken (or whatever meat), I think it's much better than crisps or other processed snacks (even if the quality of the chicken leaves a lot to be desired).

    Good luck!
