Weight, Sugars & Candida

Hi Everybody,

I have been battling Candida and I have a friend that is too. He was having a terrible problem with weight until targeting his candida. Due to this experience I have been learning a lot, and one of the things is about sugar.

Basically our insulin always stores magnesium. Sugar not only can block protein but also magnesium from being properly absorbed. In fact making cells more resistant in their ability to store magnesium. This causes blood pressure to increase and reduces energy since intracellular magnesium is required for all energy producing reactions that take place in the cell. Basically, after he cut out sugar his cells started acting normally, but also we cut out all form of things that turn into sugar, starches, most fruits, alcohol, etc. But this is only temporary once we kick the candida and then we will be adding foods slowly back into our current diet.

The only sugars that are allowed for us are Xylitol and Stevia on a very minimal daily amount, less is best, we don't even use a full tbsp of it a day. Xylitol is preferred because it has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Truthfully though, for candida it is best to have no sugars at all. We have to be careful of anything that basically converts to sugars in the body at this time still.

Going through this process I learned sugar addiction is very real, Xylitol helped me cut back. When I first started targeting the candida I kicked sugar but allowed me my one cup of coffee a day and every day made it less and less sweet until I wasn't using any. On the fourth and fifth day my cravings for sugar was so overwhelming and it was very hard to not break down. For my husband, he went through something similar but his cravings were for bread. I know to completely break any addiction takes 3 months, so because of our addictions will make double sure to avoid those specific foods during this time, even if we get to a point that it is okay to reintroduce things into our diet.

I basically wanted to share this information with you because this experience is teaching me a lot and we have had tremendous successes.

It is very likely that some of you may have Candida Overgrowth as it affects 85% of the population. It can affect the body is so many ways, that from person to person symptoms can vary, but common things are IBS (intestinal issues, constipation, diarrhea, even heartburn) Fatigue, headaches, Brain Fog, unusual body odor, acne, itchy skin, patchy skin, psoriasis, mood swings, athlete's foot or brittle nails/ discoloration (hands and feet). muscle aches and pains, painful side of neck and upper back and shoulders, joint pain/ stiffness and swelling, cold hands or feet, low body temperature, heart problems, rapid pulse, pounding or irregular heart or palpitations. The list goes on and on but I will leave it at that. I didn't know it, but had Candida Overgrowth for over 20 years, by the time I figured it out, I had all of the above, and more.

If you think that you may have it, I would strongly suggest having your doctor test your stool or I think there are blood test you can buy online. I say this because I would never wish what I or my friend went through over the years before we finally figured it out on anyone. If this post even helps one person, it will be worth it. :)

I wish you all well. Best regards, Seraphim

You forget to mention the effect of yeast products on Candida and fungal growth...too much bread in the diet (containing yeast) will cause nasty itchy skin in places you don't want to be seen scratching!

Even my pet dog suffered with very itchy ears until I realised we had been letting him eat the crusts from the bread, and too much yeasty bread had given him a nasty itchy problem, which cleared up as soon as we stopped feeding him the bread.

Yes, thank you for mentioning that. I was going to but felt bad because my post was already so long. :) I really could go on and on about the topic as I am amazed how much it can affect the body and how many things were going wrong with my body and mind. It amazes me by targeting this one thing how many other things have cleared up or are going away.

I love how you mention your pet, it is so true that our animals can have the problem too.

You need some sugar/carbs so your brain works the correct way. You can't cut out all sugar and expect to think clearly/function. If a person has diabetes, they have to eat a certain amount of carbs for each meal/snack or they will have extreme low blood sugars.

I will be adding some starches back in soon, and our body certainly does not need as much as the average population consumes on a daily basis.

I will tell you this, I am thinking better than I have in years. I actually thought something was wrong with my brain, I could not think clearly, it was so bad, forget about having long conversations, my focus was shot and my memory was going too, that compiled with other things that were happening to my body, I thought I was basically dying.

Since I made those changes as well as some other things to target candida my brain feels amazing. You have no idea how it was for me. On the seventh day when my brain fog started to lift, and quickness of thought pick up, and my visual perception improved, I cried, because for the first time in years, I had hope that I could get better. And I have been, for the first time in years I feel like myself again. As I go through this process, I will be adding more foods back in, but slowly and cautiously because I was dangerously systemic with candida. It can easily start to flare up again and it will take me a while to get my body balanced back out and healed up.

And I never want to experience that again.

Our bodies / brains evolved to use either glucose (sugar) and /or ketones (fat) for fuel. If we eat very low carb our brain will use ketones, this is the basis of the ketogenic diet. We don't need to eat sugar.
