It is more difficult but still possible to lose weight, I have gone for the slow and steady approach with a generous calorie allowance so I don't feel deprived. 😊

Sugar does not suit me, seems to exacerbate symptoms, so I have virtually given up sweet stuff apart from fruit, 😕 Tough to begin with but easier now, you really do get used to it!! 😊

Good luck

I'm 44 and not menopausal yet, but the kilos have been creeping up on me since I turned 40 and I also have 2 stone to lose. I started a week and a half ago. I decided to do the first stone quickly (6 weeks) because I need to see results. I therefore have a very restricted calorie intake of 1200. I run 3 times a week, use the weekly weigh-ins here for motivation and the app MyFitnessPal to keep track of my calorie intake. I eat lots of vegs and fish. Only little fruit and starchy foods. Good luck with your journey. Keep posting!

If it is any comfort, I lost 3 stones in weight in the year leading up to my 50th birthday - it was a present to myself, a new body for my 50th!

Those hormonal changes can actually benefit you once the see-saw of the monthly mood swings disappears...no more monthly cravings! I kept the weight off for about 5 years and then due to job changes and living with family for a while, slowly gained most of it back again, but this I am now losing (for the 2nd time) aged 61, and only have a stone to go to be comfortable and healthy again.

Hints for a menopausal diet; avoid tea and coffee and highly spiced foods which aggravate hot flushes. Eat lots of seeds and nuts, soya and fish products which help to replace the diminishing oestragen and keep the joints mobile. Things do improve by the way.... and you should look forward to your 50's and 60's!!

I like the idea of giving yourself a new body for your birthday. My 45th birthday is in September - in 15 weeks. That should be plenty of time for me to make that present come true.
