For me ( chubby for 50 of my 63 years), being slim at last means NOT having to delete most of my holiday photos before I show them to anyone!

Wow! elliebath you certainly do not look 63 years of age, you look stunning in that photo, beautiful colours really suit you. I was well built but very sporty till I left school, I had my first child had no car and put on a little weight then I got my own car, I think that is where it went wrong and all the weight went on, for 26 years I have been on and off dieting but now following the 12 week plan, is this how you did it? and any tips for success as you say you sort through the photos or like me you are the one taking them, honestly if you looked through our photo collection you would think my 3 kids didn't have a mum.

OMG Elliebath! You're 4 years older than me and look 20 years younger! You're gorgeous!! :) Never, never, delete another photo! Frame them all and exhibit them. Show the world what a superstar you are! :)

Btw, I love your top! :)

Thank you, the top was m&s but two summers ago , most of my wardrobe is M&S in fact. Twiggy is my inspiration 😊

2 stone was my target ... only 6lb to go ... then it's maintaining !?!?

elliebath profile image
elliebathMaintainer in reply to Claire2stone

Good for you, nearly there then. Ive posted a few times about maintaining and received some interesting replies, so I'll be interested to see how you find it too.

I'm really enjoying the healthy eating and planning my meals. I enjoy an occasional treat but although enjoy eating it I don't feel great after, but a bowl of strawberries for example make me feel good. 😀 so hope I can just carry on as I am but up my calories a little to maintain. Is that how it works?

elliebath profile image
elliebathMaintainer in reply to Claire2stone

Yes it is. Just increase slowly over a few weeks.

Great pic and inspiration for all of us there! You look well toned up too, so I'll bet you have worked hard to look that fit? What exercise or sport do you do?

elliebath profile image

"slim" to me means being healthy and not being self conscious about a spare tyre over the top of my jeans! you look great, well done!

elliebath profile image
elliebathMaintainer in reply to Caz28

Absolutely, its feeling comfortable in our own skin even with its imperfections 😊

I'm still not perfect in photos, as I'm quite short, so even being a healthy BMI and a size 10/12 means I can find some photos still turn out unflattering. But I know what you mean, it's definitely easier to pose for photos now! But for me the main thing is being able to get dressed quickly in the morning without worrying so much about what I want to cover up. Most days it's just jeans and a top which means even less thinking about clothes now. Before I lost weight I was down to just a few things on rotation that I could bear to wear any more, partly due to low esteem, and partly due to not buying the larger sizes I really should have been wearing (still wearing stretched out 12s/14s when I was actually 16/18 :( ) I now realise I could have been a lot easier on myself! A lot of it is down to perception, and putting things in perspective :)

elliebath profile image
elliebathMaintainer in reply to

That sounds familiar Ruth ! But like most of us, we avoid buying pretty things in bigger sizes, and just feel tortured and unhappy in our tight stuff...

So pleased you're through all that now and enjoying your new look.

in reply to elliebath

Thanks, that's what comes across in your photo too - enjoying your new look. I'm so happy in a brightly coloured blouse and well-fitting jeans now too, in fact that's what I'm wearing today, with red shoes :)

elliebath profile image
elliebathMaintainer in reply to

Red shoes , absolutely wonderful !!!

in reply to

I have been refusing to acknowledge my new larger size for some time so can totally relate to this!! I'm going to buy myself some better fitting clothes just as soon as I can and then I shall enjoy giving them away in a few weeks!

in reply to

Yes do! It's hard enough as it is to lose weight and keep motivated. No need to beat ourselves up in the process too! No need to spend a fortune either, I saw lovely things in Peacocks last week, and apparently the Tu stuff in Sainsbury's is on sale...

Thanks Hidden for telling me where to go as I am desperate to buy new clothes. I was planning to wait until I loose another stone but my hubby says go now. I am going to listen as it will make me feel better and than hopefully i will shift this stone off! I will feel better with myself and than I will eat healthier actually I am back on the wagon. Here I come!

Ahhh, thank you Girls , but I was just trying to say that we can waste so many potentially happy years being unhappy in our skin, hiding our photos, and hiding ourselves. It doesn't matter why we put up with it for so long, the important thing is we're all on here now doing something about it !!

After years of overweight, It took me nearly a year of calorie counting and walking to shed my spare 30 lbs, and Ive maintained it now since april 2015. I do not do gyms or rigorous exercise ( wish I liked it, but I don't ) so underneath clothes I am not very firm and since I lost weight my underarms and neck aren't great, but Im off the BP medication, no more painful knee, more energy, more relaxed in myself. No chocolate bar can taste as good as that feels! Go for it girls!

Wow you look awesome!

For me, it means having the confidence to be around people and enjoy myself. I have always hidden away from people as much as possible, avoiding going out with friends and relationships, because why would anyone want to be seen with me, or talk to me?

I hope to be at the stage where I can meet someone and be happy :)

Wow! You look fabulous so nice and slim! I love your top so nice and bright and summery. I also shop in M&S. I plan to go tomorrow and than Sainburys.

You are so right it takes ages to shift off this weight I just have to keep going forward!

I find that as I am 2 stones lighter I feel better and lighter with myself and I now hate looking at my last years photos.

What a great post elliebath. Congratulations on your weight loss. I don't do photos at the moment so I can totally relate to that. Being slim to me would mean being able to go into a regular shop and buy clothes from the peg. Also being able to have a bath without a huge dam of water built up behind me that whooshes up each side of me when I lie back and floods the bathroom floor.

in reply to Kenny25

That still happens even after you lose weight, I had that bath thing happen to me the other day, pulled the plug out and it all seemed to go down, then I stood up and there was a tidal wave!

Kenny25 profile image
Kenny25 in reply to

Haha thanks for shattering my dreams Ruth

in reply to Kenny25

I think it's a matter of technique rather than size! Maybe if I had better bath technique I'd be living the dream. You may fare better... ;)

elliebath profile image
elliebathMaintainer in reply to Kenny25

Ha , that made me laugh about the bath !

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply to Kenny25

Kenny25 are you telling me that if I lose another stone than when I have a bath the floor wont be a paddling pool any more?! I am so disappointed! What a shame my son won't be able to splash any more! :)

Kenny25 profile image
Kenny25 in reply to bakersdozen

Yep sorry. Haha

I think this is a great question - what will being slim mean to me? I'm going to think that over.

Feeling fitter. Looking fitter. Able to wear the clothes I like. A bit of smugness when I see old friends :-) Being a healthy weight and increasing my chances of a longer healthier more active life - the most important one!

elliebath profile image
elliebathMaintainer in reply to

Nothing wrong with a little smugness @Hidden .....not when we've worked so hard and earned it!

My aunt once pointed out to me that you hardly ever see my Mom in pictures. And it's because she was always waiting until she had lost weight. My aunt is a similar size to my Mom and she said that if she stayed out of family pictures, what would happen if she were not around anymore? Her kids would have had nothing to remember her by.

You're right in that we can miss out on a lot of life while waiting for that ultimate goal. Better to seize the day! And I would imagine it's also true that our loved ones don't see us in the negative, derogatory way we often see ourselves!
