Hi Ash, I think that is the problem for many people, it is important when trying to lose weight to eat the right foods. You will discover which foods are best for you as you go along your journey but what is true for most people is that it is important to have a varied diet, including plenty of vegetable and fruit. Try to include some protein in every meal as protein keeps you feeling full for longer and reduces the risks of snacking. Good luck and keep in touch x

Hi Ash121,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. I wanted to wish you luck, and hope you enjoy being part of this community. I really like it here, and I've been around for over 3 years - so I am definitely a fan of the resources available here.

Do have a look at our Pinned Posts section (right-hand-side of the homepage). The Welcome Newbie post, which has been collated by moreless is really good, and highlights many things that forum members have enjoyed and found helpful, and also has some success stories there (many). Also, look at the "I did it!' Badge thread, as that also lists the successes of people too.

We have a Monday weigh-in group too - details of that are in the Events section (just below the Pinned Posts), so maybe have a read through that too.

The members here are friendly and supportive, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of this great community.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

I'm new here too (but have been doing the plan and reading some of the posts for 4 weeks now), and the Welcome Newbie post is great!

Thanks Zest for the great advice, and good luck Ash121 with your weight loss! :)

Good luck - just write it all down or track it on an app - hope you have every success.

I too got fat eating healthy foods (mostly) but in too large quantities. My idea of a portion was way over what it ought to be (X 2 or X 3). But it is the best tool in my weight loss. So it is well worth sorting out your portions and knowing what they are. If you can keep your portions in control, it means that no food is off limits. But the amount of it you can eat and drink at a time might be much smaller than you realised before. It is well worth having scales which can weigh small amounts and measuring cups and spoons and using them till it becomes second nature.

I rely on myfitnesspal app. Each morning I have breakfast and then work out what meals to have, look to see what protein/carbs/cals contained in all meals and adjust my menu to fit it in. Calorie counting etc is hard work for me but this way simple.

There are alot of apps like that try them.

Good luck you will do well.

Welcome. I have managed 10 just over a week now and use the NHS smart recipes and the app to count up my calories as I go through the day. I find this the most effective and easiest way to keep track. I bought new digital scales too as a treat! I have lost so far 6 pound and am feeling better already! I use the nutracheck counter to log calories, exercise. And the recipes even my kids are loving. So good luck you can do it :-)

Good for you for joining. I too can eat smaller portions but it is the exercise that let's me down. I have to step this up with walking but good luck to you. All the best

Hi, well done for joining, sometimes that can be a very difficult step. I find that if I keep a food diary it really helps to see what you are really eating, also as someone else mentioned, a set of scales. That is not to say you have to measure everything but portions sometimes can be a lot smaller than we expect, especially foods like breakfast cereal. I use, map my fitness/ my fitness pal apps to keep track, you can adjust the fat/carb/protein limits which I have done for myself. Carbs are my downfall, so I have lowered the limit on them. It will also remind you to weigh in, which is a good incentive.

best wishes. V
