Help please! I am confused😯😕😑.

Hi everyone! I  hope you are all having a pretty good week, I am however, feeling very confused and lost! 😐😮😕

According to the calculation on the NHS weight checker I should be eating 1600+ to 2000+ calories a day. The NHS choices weekly plan that I have subscribed to,  is telling me to stick to having 1400 calories a day in order to have a healthy weight loss.

Someone please help me get out of this confusion please. @Lowcal and @moreless, please help me with this as you will understand exactly where I am coming from.

Thanks everyone in advance for your help.

Sana.

Hi Sana,

The 1400 calorie total given in a lot of the NHS 12 week plan is referring to an 'average woman' and the NHS weight checker gives you a recommended calorie range based on your personal stats - i.e. your current weight, height, activity levels, and therefore I would recommend going by the calorie range suggested from the NHS BMI calculator.  Otherwise you'll not be eating a sufficient range of calories for your needs.

Hope this helps.

Lowcal :-)

Thank you so much for such quick reply Zest  ☺😙😊. It really helped as I had actually started eating according to the BMI calculator.  Thank you so much once again.

Anytime, Sana.  Glad you chose the BMI Calculator range.  :-)

Hi Lowcal, I was in email dialogue with Stephen Shukor to try to clarify this and he did change the wording on the front page to

'“For most men, this means sticking to a calorie limit of no more than 1,900kcal a day, and 1,400kcal for most women.

If you find it hard sticking to the calorie limit, use our BMI calculator to get your own personal weight loss calorie allowance.

If you go over your limit one day, don't worry: it simply means you'll have to reduce your calorie intake on the following days.

'

I think it is clearer now but he might be amenable to more clarification if people are still confused.

Hi Windswept,

Thanks so much for sharing that clarification.

Does that mean I can continue using upto 1400 calories Windswept1  ? Because this is the impression I got from this message.  Plus I feel that I am over eating while trying to stick to 1600+ calories.

And thank you so much by the way for this clarification as well. 😙😊

Please bear in mind I am not a dietician, but it does say that for MOST women 1400 should be enough.  However, I suspect that if you have been regularly eating a lot more than this or have a lot to lose you may feel hungry on this.  Feeling hungry is likely to make people give up so better to have more calories to start with.  That way it also gives people scope to reduce it further as they lose weight.

If you are like the most women they refer to and you are not getting hungry on 1400, then go with that.

Thank you so much Windswept1 for your reply. I was pretty comfortable with having 1350- 1400 calories but went on to have 1600+ calories as I was not losing enough weight as I was working hard to. My BMI calculator also suggested that I should have that much but I felt very full with that amount of food. Infact I had 1578 calories yesterday and I felt full to the throat, I felt that I needed to go back to the previous calorie intake. Which is why I have gone back to 1350 to 1400 calories and feel slightly better today. I wonder how it will impact on my overall weight on Monday. Oh well I will just have to wait and hope/try for the best. 😊☺.
