Hi Everyone,

If you join us for this Monday group weigh-in then one of the Fab 5’ers (Prin, Suzybenj, Moreless,,LotToLose and myself, Lowcal) will reply to you. However, please be patient with us, as we do have other commitments, but we will do our very best to get back to you as soon as we can.

Here are the stats for last Monday:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 139.

Total overall weight lost: 97 pounds (44 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 77 (144.33 pounds lost) (65.5 kilos).

Total people who gained weight: 24 (47.34 pounds gained) (21.5 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weight: 21.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 14.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 3.

Really great stats, especially as for many of us it was the May Bank Holiday last weekend, and therefore a potentially more challenging weekend.

Note for Newbies:

If you are joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome.  Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals – setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful.

You could also make a note of your body measurements – sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating.  It’s not all about the scales afterall – it’s how you feel in yourself.

You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you’ll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated).

Also, if you’ve not already seen it, then take a moment to read the ‘Welcome Newbie’ pack which is a Pinned post (situated on right hand side of homepage) which has been collated by Fab 5’er Moreless.

N.B. The Afternoon/Evening Session has now been posted at approx midday –

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Big thanks to moreless  for posting this.  I had the predicament of a power cut, so was powerless to act - really glad Moreless was able to post it.  Thank you!!!!

So, regarding my own weigh-in – I last weighed in on Monday 2nd May 2016, and I was 13 stone 6 pounds. As many of you know, I had gained half a stone whilst being on a Celebratory holiday (my 50th Birthday), and therefore I set myself the goal to lose 3 pounds this week. I am pleased to say that today I weigh 13 stone 2.6 pounds,  and therefore I’ve lost 3.4 pounds. I am very pleased with this result as  I have found it tough to get back on track this week, and I was definitely going off the rails a bit mid-week, when I ate too much chocolate on two days running. But I managed to re-focus and get motivated again over the weekend, and I’d like to thank @Suzybenj (lovely Fab 5’er) for her brilliant post on Saturday about re-booting, and I’ve decided to start the NHS 12 week plan from week 1, and I’m really enjoying the chance to re-focus and take stock. The E-mail support from NHS Choices is really good, and I am being diligent about weighing food, and am finding it really helpful and re-motivating so far.

This week I hope to attend the gym at least twice, and also keep up with some regular walks, plus my Strength training. I'd like to try to lose at least 2 pounds this week.

Wishing everyone a great week, and good luck with your goals.

Onwards and downwards!!!

Lowcal :-)

1st week and I am 13 stone 3 AGAIN! I stayed the same which in the first week isn't very good.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Sassybird

Hi Sassybird,

But it does happen sometimes that you don't necessarily change in the first week, so please don't let that put you off.  I know it's more unusual, as most people do tend to lose something, but keep with the NHS 12 week plan (if that's the plan you're following) and you should see results on the scales - maybe you'll get a really good loss next week, all being well.  Whatever you do, don't give in to any negative feelings that might surface as a result of disappointment, because those can sabotage your attempts to continue, and it's gettting a good mind-frame to go forward that will really help you succeed.

You can do it Sassybird, and here's to a great week ahead of you.

Here's to another great week ahead for you.

Hiya, i didnt post my weight last week, mainly because i hadnt yet downloaded the nhs 12 week plan so here i am with my starting weight which is 237 lbs. I hope to get down to 162 lbs. My name is Belinda. Good luck everyone. I'm hoping i don't lose my job today from too much time off! :( xx

ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Belinda,

Great to see you, and welcome to your first Monday group weigh-in.  It's great that you've downloaded the NHS 12 week plan, and you're ready and raring to go!!!  I hope it felt ok to share your starting weight, as that is often the most daunting step, but here's to you being lighter and healthier as time goes forward from here.

It can be good to set yourself a mini goal - as these are very motivating and achievable on the way to your long-term goal.  So maybe have a think about that.  Healthy/average weight loss tends to be between 1 and 2 pounds per week, but sometimes people lose a bit more in their first week or couple of weeks.  Taking your body measurements can also be very motivating as well, as sometimes the scales don't move, and yet the body measurements show a change, which shows that it's not all about the scales.

Have you seen the Welcome Newbie post?  Here's a link incase you've not seen it and would like to take a look:

hi Everyone

I have sadly gained 1.4kg since last week, when i was 64kg for the first time in a very long time. i guess a birthday, an argument with the hubby on the birthday and a BBQ yesterday are all partially responsible.  Even after reading all the advice about BBQs and not overeating (I love the detergent idea!), I still ate too much.

But, in keeping with many of the ideas over the week, i'm not too concerned as I think it goes up and down and as long as the main trend is downward.  So, its another week of watching my weight and hoping for the best...  and avoiding champagne, BBQs an arguments

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to 2fatbyfar

Not to worry 2f, it's not a huge amount and you'll drop that in next to no time :)

You have a list of reasons for it to have happened and that's life! I hope you and your hubby have made up now :)

You've always done fantastically well and to say that this is your first time back at 64kg, is nothing short of remarkable! Wish I was 64kg :D A few days off the champers and you'll be right back on track :)

Have a great week, onwards and downwards! :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to 2fatbyfar

Hi 2fatbyfar,

Firstly, I'd like to wish you a Happy Birthday.  I hope you enjoyed the day, until the moment when you had the argument with your hubby of course - I'm sorry to hear that happened, and I hope things get better as the week progresses.  Yes, BBQ's are notoriously challenging, as are any buffet kind of situation too, and to be honest it's very rare for anyone to actually lose weight over a Birthday week - and it's much more likely to gain it.  You'll soon get that 1.4 kg gain off again, just re-focus and keep motivated through the week ahead.  It was good you read the advice on how to cope with BBQs, and hopefully it did mean you ate more than you might have done otherwise.  Just put it behind you and move forward.

Like you say, your overall trend is downward, and that's really brilliant!  Here's to avoiding Champagne, BBQs and an argument for your week ahead.

Hope you enjoy your week.

Morning all!

Firstly well done lowcal - fab focus and loss!

I didn't weigh in last week as I didn't have my BP tablets which caused a huge water retention and swelling problem!

Today I am 11 00.2.

2 weeks ago I was 11 01.3. So I have lost 1.1lb.

This week I need to really focus on my weekends as every Thursday and Friday my weight is always lower and Monday am a bit disappointed. ( last week I was 10 12.2 right up to and including  Saturday's weigh in!!)

However...this weekend was a bit different as I was celebrating a massive achievement having secured a new job and huge promotion on Friday. (I allowed myself alcohol too!)

Last week was very stressful, I was getting very little sleep (and was exhausted) due to tension about a very long interview process which resulted in some dubious food choices at times and no exercise.

Now my task this week is to get back on the straight and narrow now the interview is done and job secure.

So this week I pledge to get back into my sleep routine, do a minimum of 3 HIIT sessions and 're focus on food.

Have good weeks everyone!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to asics

Hi Asics,

I remember you mentioning that you wouldn't weigh last week due to not having your BP tablets and suffering from that swelling.  I hope you're feeling much better now and that you've recovered.

Congratulations on losing 1.1 pounds over the 2 week period - I'll divide that by 2 so will put down an average loss of 0.55 pound for this week, if that's ok with you.  We only ever include the results for 1 week in our stats.

Many Congratulations also on securing yourself a new job and the fact it is a huge promotion is even better!!!  Wow, what a great piece of news!!!  I can understand you enjoyed celebrating that!  Like you said, you were stressed during the time you were trying to secure a new job, and thankfully your efforts have paid off.  The best thing is you can get back on track and hopefully be less stressed now, which will help your attempts to lose weight.

You've made some great pledges too - good luck with getting back to your sleep routine, and to doing a minimum of 3 HIIT sessions, and to re-focusing on the food side of things.

Wishing you a great week!

Lowcal :-)

Good morning everyone!

Well done Lowcal and everyone else who has achieved their goals.

I'm pleased to report a 2lb loss this week, so down to 10st 10lb from 10st 12lb last week.  I managed to get down to this weight a few weeks ago, but then TOTM arrived and ruined it all!  Now my plan is to get to 10st 8lb by next Monday.  This wil be the lowest I will have weighed since September 2013 eek!!

My daughter is going into hospital for an operation next Thursday and I know the last time she was in, I put on 6lb!  I'm terrified of that happening again, so any tips would be gratefully received please.

Hope you're all ok and enjoying the lovely weather 😊

Well done isou, 2lbs down is brilliant! :) Oh my gosh to almost be the lowest you've been for almost 3 years! I shall keep everything crossed for you this week :)

Sorry to hear that your daughter's got to have an operation and I can understand how in the past, that's led to you comfort eating. What I'll say to you, is that long walks clear the mind and soothe the soul far better than food and they have the added bonus of being soooooo much better for your health and calorie free! :)

Wishing you and your daughter all the very best :)

Hidden  i will most definitely be thinking of you and your little girl on Thursday. My friends little girl was also born with a cleft lip and palate, but if you didn't know, you would be hard pressed to notice. They really can do amazing things these days!

With regard to staying on track while she's in surgery, perhaps take a healthy snack pack with you? I also find if I've got an activity I can get lost in, I don't think about food so much. I like to draw but perhaps an adult colouring book would be helpful? Get a mindfulness one as they can be really soothing in stressful situations.

Good luck to you both honey, you're in my thoughts xxxx

in reply to Bluewings

Thank you so much and for your suggestions. Tbh last time I was so tired, I tried to sleep when she was ( she's only 7 months). But tiredness often leads to hunger, which resulted in my horrendous gain. But this time I'm going to try REALLY hard. I'm going to take some Weight Watchers ready meals with me, plus fruit and healthy snacks - they have a parent's kitchen on the ward with a microwave and a fridge. In any case, I'll keep you all informed.

How's your weight loss going? 😊

Bluewings profile image
Bluewings in reply to

Oh I can totally relate to weight gain due to sleep deprivation !! I have 2.5year old twins who I credit with my 3 stone gain, they were premie and have only just started sleeping through the night in the last couple of months. I was totally relying on sugar and caffeine to get through the days and nights. It was a self propagating problem though because I breastfed them which can't have been helping them sleep poor things.

Now we're all getting decent nights, I'm back on track and the weight is slowly coming off again.

We'll get there gorgeous, onwards and downwards as they say 😘

in reply to Bluewings

Wow. I've got four, but never had two at the same time!! You must have been exhausted! I breastfed my other three, but she couldn't because of her cleft and I really miss it! Never mind!

How early were they? My son was early too. Were they in special care?

Bluewings profile image
Bluewings in reply to

Oh yes, I suppose it must be difficult for her to latch. How is she with a bottle? Makes you wonder how cleft babies managed in the olden days. Mine still have morning "baboo" and I'm letting them decide when to wean. I'll totally miss our morning snuggles. They were 5 weeks early, but only one was in special care. We all had to stay in for a week though because they kept losing weight… if only it was so easy for me lol 😂

in reply to Bluewings

Yes she couldn't make suction - basically it's like sucking through a straw with a hole in - she suckles instinctively, but nothing gets drawn off 😕 I think very few mums with cleft babies are able to breastfeed, it depends on how big the cleft is.

She has specially adapted bottles and long teats that go right into the back of her mouth.  You have to squeeze the milk into her mouth, but it works.

She had expressed breast milk for the first four months, but a breast pump is nowhere near as effective as letting the milk down as a baby and I was pumping every three hours, making myself exhausted, especially as I had the others to think about too. They're 6, 4 and 3, so still quite needy. So now she has Similac, which is a high calorie prescription formula to help her gain weight. I feel terrible about this, but I know it's not my fault and at least she's healthy and thriving, that's the main thing.

I guess years ago babies like this would have probably died.

Ah the snuggles in bed, yes that's the best bit.

Did you go into labour at 35 weeks or were they planning to deliver you then? They prefer for twin births to not drag on too long, don't they?

This is turning into a good chat!  Have a nice day 😊

Bluewings profile image
Bluewings in reply to

Oh lovely, you have to try to put those feelings to bed, four months of pumping and caring for a newborn and three others is nothing short of miraculous!!

I pumped for a while in the hopes of getting hubby to help with the nighttime feeds but I just couldn't keep up with the demand. Then there was the issue that neither would take a bottle, so I gave up and just continued with feeding them myself, but truly did not get a break for 2 years. Whew!!

Mine was a consultant led pregnancy and he wanted to deliver me in my 37th week. I had a final scan booked in for week 36 to check their growth wasn't slowing, but I went into labour spontaneously at 34+6. I desperately wanted a natural birth but Twin 1 was becoming distressed with each contraction, so I ended up with an emergency section.

I think as mothers, it is programmed into us to have these feelings of guilt and inadequacy. I feel terribly guilty for working as hard as I did while pregnant, for all my clumsy falls, and for not being able to eat hardly anything (hg). If I had just made a few different decisions, perhaps I would have been able to carry them to term. I know these thoughts don't help anyone or solve anything but it's hard to turn the page.

Wouldn't have it any other way though would we 😊😘

in reply to Bluewings

Thank you that's really kind.

I didn't express with my others either, tbh I didn't want to and it's so much hassle doing night feeds with a bottle. Why bother messing about when you can feed them directly, it's at the right temperature and sterile, it helps your uterus contract back down, helps you lose weight and is better for baby?

I know some women prefer bottle feeding, but it's really not for me lol

That is pretty commendable breastfeeding twins  though. What do you if they both want feeding at the same time? Could you tandem feed? I always thought if I ever had twins I would try, but I can imagine it must be quite tricky. I used to feed my other three lying down in bed during the night, so I didn't even have to get up lol when they got bigger, then used to latch themselves on and wake me up lol

Bluewings profile image
Bluewings in reply to

I almost always tandem fed them! The day time was easier because we were up and active, and if I tandem fed then at least I got a break in between feeds. During the night I prayed for them to tag team so I could stay lying down, but they typically both wanted to feed at the same time as was their habit during the day, which meant I had to sit up. I had a breastfeeding pillow which was my number one Best Buy!! It meant I could hold them both in the rugby ball position, then when they fell asleep I could just slide them off onto the bed.

Wow, thinking back to those early days, it's amazing how far we've come. I honestly think I lost my mind a wee bit through sheer exhaustion.

Is your little girls operation today? I've got you I'm my thoughts, and wishing her a smooth and easy recovery xx

Wow that's pretty commendable- well done you!

Great weight loss this week. I hope all goes well with your daughter. As a mum and a post-op recovery nurse I get to see both sides of the coin. I know hospital restaurant food can sometimes be less than healthy so maybe take in a lunch with you or at least some healthy snacks.

As part of Public Health England One You campaign our Chief Exec has been asked to make a small healthy change so she has pledged to take a walk every day. She is taking a route in the hospital up and down stairs and along corridors, every lunch time and encouraging others to don their trainers and join her. Perhaps you could do the same sort of thing. We also have a tower block in our hospital and staff often "do the stairs" in their lunch break. Their are 11 floors in total (22 flights); another good work out.

I've  been messing about now since January when I was 12 st 2.   I am, this morning,  13 st .08 😣. I work long shifts and just grab what I can. I know how to lose weight but feel so deflated that I comfort eat. If I can get through this week I will start a new job so fingers crossed.   I will have a look at nhs for starting Monday and just cut down this week. Feel sucH a muppet as could have been under 11 st by now and do this every year.  Only when it's summer and I have to get my kit off do I realise I really should have started sooner and stuck to it 😔 x

Right Debbs, stop being so down on yourself, you've made a brave decision to "stop the rot" and should be feeling proud of yourself :)

Put the past behind you and start afresh. Download the 12 week plan and get organised. I'm a great believer in filling my freezer with healthy, home-cooked ready meals, as they're perfect for the days when there's not enough time, energy, or inclination to cook :)

At least at this time of the year, the extra daylight and improved weather means we can get out and exercise, which is not only good for your health, but is also a great mood lifter :)

Have a look at our welcome newbies thread, if you haven't already, as it's full of handy hints and motivational stories. It can be found in the pinned posts section, to the right of your screen, alongside some fun and motivational challenges and a fab recipe thread :)

Chin up Debbs, you can do this and we can help! Onwards and downwards! :)

Woo hoo! Well done Lowcal, you're definitely going the right way :)

I've lost 3lbs this week taking me to 17st2lbs. I'm pleased with this as although I always think a big loss would be great when I've had them in the past, they've often been followed by a week with no loss which can be disheartening.

I've had a bit of a blah week for various reasons but the absolute worst thing was finding out on Saturday morning that the 44yr old sister of an old school friend, had suffered a massive stroke overnight and passed away. Only 4 years older than me and overweight, this really hammered home the need to master my weight loss.

Hope you all have a happy healthy week.

Hi Kate,

Firstly, my sincere condolences regarding the sad news regarding  the sister of your old school friend's unexpected death at such a young age.  Really sad.  I can understand that news has shocked you, and made you think of your own mortality.

I know you are focusing more on your own health and well-being as a result, and I would like to Congratulate you on losing 3 pounds this week, which takes you closer to the 16's.  I know what you mean about the fact that often after a big loss, there isn't necessarily any change in the subsequent week, but remember that it's the overall trend that counts, so don't let it put you off - I know this is easier said than done of course!!!

I think I noticed that you've posted a picture for the Oranges and Lemons Challenge, so I'll be looking forward to checking that out later - I bet you've done an excellent photo!

Wishing you a good week ahead, and hope you have a less stressful week.

Oh my gosh Kate, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's sister! What a terrible tragedy and a massive shock!

It really is a wake-up call to all of us when we hear of such terrible things happening. We literally have our lives in our hands and only we can do anything about it.

Take care of yourself and well done for such a fantastic loss! :)

Lowcal, you're making amazing progress, well done! :)

I'm down from 63.3kg to 62.7kg, so 0.6kg loss this week.

With that, I'm still just about on track to get to the "healthy" range by the end of the month to reach my current goal. :)

Good morning everyone 😀 well done lowcal, fantastic loss!!!

Last week : 11st 7.2

This wk : 11st 6.8

Hips down half an inch to 37.5, tummy stayed the same at 37.

Seem to hit a brick wall but at least not a gain 🤔

Will revisit 12wk plan and pledge to do lots of exercise this wk not just walking.

Hope everyone has a good wk.

Hi Claire2stone,

Good morning!  Thanks for your kind words.  :-)

Congratulations on losing 0.4 pound and to having a half inch reduction in your hip measurements.  That doesn't sound like a brick wall to me, but I realise you feel as if you've hit one.  You've lost weight, which is better than both a maintain and a gain.

You are planning to re-visit the 12 week plan, and I completely agree that would be a motivating thing to do.  I'm doing that myself, starting at Week 1 and taking advantage of signing up for the E-mail support, and I am really impressed so far.  I've not done that before, as I've previously had a print out of the plan and just followed it by myself, but having the E-mail support means they give extra links to motivating information, and I find it much better so far!

Good luck also with your pledge to do more exercise, in addition to your walking that you are currently doing.  It can be fun to try out new things and find out what you enjoy doing, or go back to something that you might have enjoyed previously, but maybe stopped doing.

So good luck, and hope you have a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

I know this may sound silly but how/where did you sign up for email support?  I didn't know that was a thing on offer!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

HI Natz994,

If you go to this page, then look at the right-hand-side of that page and you'll see a box for signing up for E-mail support - it really helps, as I've just discovered this week having signed up for it for the very first time!  I can definitely recommend it:

nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...

Lowcal :-)

p.s.  The only thing is though, that it will literally start you at Week 1 and so you may find that a bit frustrating as I know you're further on than that, but I'm re-booting, and doing the plan again from Week 1 so it was perfect for me just now.

in reply to Zest

Thanks!  I think I might try that when I do the plan through fpr he second time :)

Stress and weight loss just don't make good bedfellows, so I'm not surprised that you've had a small gain this week. Not to worry, as soon as things settle down and you get back into a nice comfortable routine, that 1lb will disappear and will probably take some of its mates with it :)

Enjoy those nice healthy snacks and those evening runs and I look forward to hearing all about your wonderful loss next monday :)

Although this is a loss, after 13 weeks of calorie counting, I can see that I am getting a bit complacent and losing focus and I need to get back on it.

So I will plan my meals this week and stop picking between meals (little pickers wear big knickers)!

Fab news! Well done Lowcal..what a great result! A quick update from me today. Managed to maintain this week which is an absolute miracle (8st 12.6). I cut right back this week after my treats last wknd & was losing again but then had an unexpected night away in Salcombe with husband and my family which was amazing & included Steak, Chips, Sticky toffee pudding & the sneaky pasty yesterday! Went waaay over Cal allowance Sat but somehow managed to stay within yesterday even with the pasty!  Did a fair bit of walking yesterday too so was all good. It was such a lovely wknd I don't regret it at all & will be cutting back in the next few days to make up for Sat & I will be back on track! Feeling revived & re motivated today. I will up my exercise and quit sugar completely again  I am not going to Yoyo again so I have to lose this week and get back below 55kg 😬

Oh no 2b! It sounds like you need to go cold turkey on the sugar. Is it worth looking back at your earlier posts from the first time around to remind yourself how you did it before - if you have them still? I think it involved tiny pots of frozen grapes... Hello - brilliant recovery! I too am recovering from a birthday rebound. Last week I was at 69.4 and today I'm 68.3 (though slightly annoyed as I was 68.1 a couple of days ago...). This is great, obviously, but I'm still in that frustrated mood where it seems you eat and exercise like a pro, and yet see very little change, which in turn makes you realise that your necessary daily intake really is very little! But anyway, I'm feeling good, have started jogging again after a 4 year break, and of course loving the sunshine.

Morning everyone, last week I was 13 stone 4 and have lost 1lb this week. I have been trying some of the slimming world recipies this week and have been trying to eat a little more but still healthier, as sticking to the 1400 calories I have been limiting myself too much resulting in feeling hungry and picking on an evening.  I also started week one of the stretch and flex programme this week.

Next week I aim to do more exercise, continue with larger healthier meals and I aim to loose 2 lbs. Short term goal is to get to 12 stone 13lb (so no longer in the 13 stone) long term goal is to be closer to 10 stone.

Good luck for the week ahead everyone

Hi Franzi, well done for your 1lb loss this week, which brings you even closer to the 12's! :) Looks like those SW recipes are really helping you out :)

Just a thought, but have you checked the BMI calculator recently, to see if you should be eating 1400 cals, or more? I hate being hungry, so always opt for as many cals as possible whilst still losing weight :)

Glad to hear that you signed up for the strength and flex, I bet that whittles away at the inches :)

Have a great week, onwards and downwards! :)

Hi Lowcal, amazing that you lost 3.4lb, if you lose the same again in the next week or 2 you'll be back in the 12s, happy days. It goes to show how quickly a holiday gain can be reversed if we quickly refocus back onto healthy eating :)

I'm just back from a holiday too, but maybe quite a different sort - camping and walking in Sussex. So I was able to avoid a lot of temptation - although a very juicy apricot filled flapjack did tempt me - goes to show how my habits have changed - I managed to make it last two days! I took loads of bananas and apples to make sure my snacking was generally on track, and I'm glad I did this as I've stayed the same. I'm still 9st10, comfortably within my maintaining range of 9st8-9st11, and feeling really good on top of that - refreshed from the break away and vitamin'd to the hilt from all that sunshine :)

Bad bad week in so many ways.  I gained 2 lbs back to 11 stone.   Had been to GP to have some chest pain checked out which they want me to get investigated, then I was at a swimming pool on Tuesday evening and had a fit (I had them many many years ago) which resulted in a casualty visit etc etc.  I have a suspicion that is linked to the fit or to the change to my thyroid medication made by GP a few months ago.  Very unhappy as it affects every aspect of my life.  Can't drive for a year, can't dive.  Haven't been in work since but going in today.  Have "failed" on the eating control. Back on it now.  No excuses.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to

OK Frankie, let's take the word "failed" out of the mix. You certainly haven't failed in any way!

You've had the week from hell! Chest pains and a fit??!! OMG, poor you! :(

I am so sorry! Take each day as it comes and you will start to regain control. Concentrate on getting well and making healthy choices, but don't put yourself under undue pressure to achieve perfection. None of us is perfect!

Really hoping that the docs can get on top of all your health problems and that you're feeling much better, very soon :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Frankie53,

I am sorry to hear you've had a bad week.  I can see you've had some health issues, and that must have been very stressful for you.  I am so sorry to hear that you have had a recurrence of the fits that you had experienced many years ago.  I realise it has a massive impact on your life in terms of the restrictions on driving and also diving.  Stress like that really does have an impact, and at least you've only gained 2 pounds this week, it could have been more.  Don't be too concerned about that gain, it will soon come off again, just put it behind you.

I know you're going back into work today, so take it easy - your first day back is often the worst, but hopefully you'll find it not too bad.  Be kind to yourself, and I hope the day goes well.

Glad to hear you're back on it now, and just pace yourself, and focus, and you'll be back on track in no time at all.  Maybe there will be some positives in regard to not driving, as you'll have to probably walk more and make other arrangements to get around - I'm not sure what distances you covered in the car previously, but I know that many of us do rely on the car even for short journeys, when maybe we could walk a bit more.

Have a good day and a good week ahead.

All the best,

Lowcal :-)

Hi, I have been away for two weeks due to ill health. Two weeks ago I got to my first stone loss. And was on 86kg. Then it all went wrong. Hot a really nasty cold and just couldn't exercise at all, my eating started to get back to old habits and I did log food and couldn't exercise. Didn't weight myself last week but forced myself this morning and as expected a gain, plus 1.5kgs I'm now at 87.5.

I'm very disappointed with myself but really still don't feel well. So tired and lethargic, still have all the symptoms of a cold but this would be week 3 so it's unlikely to be still a cold. Any way, I've decided that I will get back in track with my eating this week and will walk for exercise if I can't do anything else.

Well done to you for rebooting and getting back on track! I will take inspiration.

Onwards and downwards!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to CatRuns

Hi Catmay,

I am sorry to hear that you've had some health issues, and I hope you're feeling a lot better now.  Having a nasty cold can really scupper things, and of course resting up was a sensible thing - so well done for doing that.  I know you've gained, but that is perfectly understandable in the circumstances, so just be kind to yourself, and put it behind you.  It will soon come off again now you're recuperated and able to get back on track again.  I'll divide the 1.5kg gain by 2 so that we have an average weekly gain of 0.75kg for the stats.  I hope that's ok with you.

You take care though, and pace yourself, as it takes time to get fully recovered from illnesses, and your health is the most important thing!

Take care,

Lowcal :-)

It's great to hear you've had a good week overall, and Congratulations on losing another 400g, that is really great!  Yes, those 60's are beckoning you now.  But I can see that you're already considering the factors that might stand in your way or impede that progress - i.e. your daughter moving home after Uni, your hubby's Birthday and your oldest son visiting.  All of those are potentially really lovely things, but they can bring challenges with them - but at least you are already considering this, and I'm sure you'll therefore be able to devise an action plan to help you deal with each and every circumstance!  Hope you enjoy your meal with friends next weekend as well.  I think you're very sensible to give yourself a goal to 'maintain' - very sensible, and good luck with that goal.

Enjoy your week.

Lowcal :-)

Oh d ear put 2lb on this week. Went to a little get together in the community cEnter to get to know neighbors. Thought I had not gone over mad. I just have to look at food and weight goes on. The funny thing is my summer cloths that were a bit tight are now a little lose. This does not make sense. I am doing a little bit more walking. Start again today, I do not really want to give up, so let's see what happens this week.

It's not all about the weight Caroline, the tape measure tells a lovely story :)

Nobody on the street is going to know what your weight is, but they'd be able to tell the difference between looking like an overstuffed sausage in tight clothing and clothing that fits :)

Don't give up, keep the faith and the scales will catch up with your clothes :)

Morning All :)

No weigh-in for me today.  Because we have mechanical scals i cannot read the display so the other half normally takes a picture of the read out for me but today was a rare day off for him so he was having a lie in.  Didn't have the heart to wake him to come and weigh me :) lol

Don't think it would have beena  good result anyway as i haven't been a good girl since Wednesday as mum got rushed into hospital so i've just been grabbing food on the run and not done any exercise either.

Back on track today.......hope you've all had a good and/or fun week  ;) xx

Hi ChelleUK,

Thanks for checking in and explaining your situation re: the scales.  I hope your other half is enjoying his lie-in.  I can understand you not wanting to wake him.

I am so sorry to hear that your Mum was rushed to hospital on Wednesday, and I really hope she is doing ok.  That is very stressful, and would have an impact for definite.

Just to offer you the potential to do a late weigh-in, i.e. maybe pop in tomorrow or even the next day and post your weight, and then I'd be able to include your stats with this week's - but no pressure to do that if you don't want to, you can equally wait till next Monday and I will then just divide the result by 2 weeks - whichever you prefer, I am happy to do!  It's about motivating yourself and being accountable, and therefore your choice completely!  Just wanted to offer you some alternative options.  :-)

Glad you're back on track today, and here's to a great week ahead.  I hope your Mum recuperates well.

Morning Zest  , many thanks for your kind words yesterday, they were really appreciated :)  Weighed in this morning and surprisingly i have lose a further 2lbs bringing my total weight loss to 8lb, really pleased and only another 2-ish to go till i reach my 5% :)

Mum got discharged yesterday evening but is now on the waiting list to have her gall bladder removed, hopefully within the next couple of months they think.  Just glad she is home and it's nothing more serious.  Thanks again :)

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to ChelleUK

Hi ChelleUK,

I am so pleased to hear your Mum was discharged yesterday, and that there is a plan for her to have her gall bladder removed in the next couple of months - it is more reassuring when you know what is going on, and that there is a solution, and I hope she gets her operation as soon as possible, so she can be more comfortable.  I've had my gall bladder removed, and it really helped me - as I suffered quite a bit of pain in the months leading up to that.

Congratulations on losing 2 pounds, and to achieving a total weight loss of 8 pounds, that is fantastic!

You're close to your 5% goal - and remember you can claim an "I did it!" badge at that point, if you want to - so just ask me when you get there if you would like to have one then of course!

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Losing half your birthday gain in one week is awesone Zest , you must feel FAB! I was 11st 7lb last week after a 2lb gain and this week weigh 11st 2lb....yeeeesss, 5lb loss! My starting weight was 12st 1lb so only a pound to my first stone. I have an afternoon tea planned for this week but I'm not going to let it scupper me, oh no! I will gym four times this week and make allowances. Onwards and downwards everyone! X

Hi Fab_Jem,

Thanks very much, I do feel a lot better to have lost some of the holiday excess - and I will strive to get rid of the rest as soon as I can! :-)

Wow, you've lost 5 pound!!!  Congratulations!!! You must definitely be buzzing today with excitement at such an excellent result.  You're so close to achieving your first stone of weight loss - that is really great.

I'm sure you'll cope well with your Afternoon tea, as you sound very determined and positive.  You've got a plan of action - and that should see you through to success!

Just a word of caution though, that often after a big loss, there is sometimes minimal change the following week, and maybe even sometimes a very slight gain, so if that happens, don't let it put you off - because the essential thing to focus on is the overall trend, and your trend is definitely Onwards and Downwards.

Have a great week.

Hi Nagymama,

Yes you are in the right place, I remember you from our messages over the weekend.  It's great that you've found us ok today, and Welcome!!!  I hope you felt ok about sharing your starting weight today, as that is often the most daunting step, but it's out of the way now, and hopefully you'll be lighter as time progresses.  You've set yourself a good first goal, and I think your aim to do this in small steps is excellent.  Really sensible.

I think we've given you a link to our Welcome Newbie thread already, and I'm assuming you're trying the NhS 12 week plan?  I'd recommend using an app alongside it to help you keep track of your food and drink intake, and exercise too - I use Myfitnesspal, but there are quite a few apps out there that would be good too - the NHS plan also links to Nutracheck, which is free at a basic level.

Wishing you a great first week!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Caz28

Hi Caz28,

Well done for maintaining your weight, as a maintain is better than a gain in our book.  Have you double checked your recommended calorie range?  Maybe you're not eating sufficient calories?  It's worth a go to double check, as it can make a difference.  The BMI calculator on the NHS Choices website enables a personalised calorie range.  The 1400 calorie amount is intended for the 'average' woman, and basically the personalised one takes account of all your stats - i.e. height, weight, activity levels etc, so it's better (at least I think so!).

You sound like you're keeping on track well, so brilliant that you're managing to do that, and keep up the good work - hope you see some results on the scales soon to match your diligence and commitment.

Enjoy your week.

Lowcal :-)

Caz28 profile image
Caz28 in reply to Zest

thanks for the encouragement, my calorie range is 1450 - 1865, bit scared of upping my intake in case I gain!

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Caz28

Hi Caz28,

To be honest, I'd recommend eating more calories, i.e. towards the upper end of the recommendation, as opposed to the lower end, because you recommended range will change as you lose weight, and therefore you'll be able to adjust as you lose weight.

Maybe try eating in the middle of the range and see how you feel with that, but definitely not below the range - I always remember years ago when I used to attend a slimming class being told to eat more calories, and I felt the advisor was a bit mad to be saying that, but when I acted on the advice,  I was amazed at how effective it was.  As soon as I ate more, my weight started to come off, but eating too few meant that my weight loss had halted.

The other good thing about the range is that you could eat a bit more on a particular day, and towards the lower end on another day, depending on what your day is like and how you feel.  It gives you some choice and flexibility, and that's another reason I really appreciate having a recommended range to follow.

Good luck!

Lowcal :-)

I'm a lucky girl this week, I celebrated my sons birthday and it involved a trip to London and a party.  I ate naughty food and had a great time (I figured I need to be able to celebrate too) and I've gone from 9 stone 6lbs 8oz to 9 stone 5lbs 4oz.

So, I've lost 1lb 4oz this week and delighted with that.

Back on it today and happy to do that, looking at food from a whole new perspective these days.

I'd have anticipated you might have gained weight after such celebrations, but you've actually lost 1.25 pounds, that is really great!!!  Congratulations!!!

Hi everyone

Contratulations on the loss Lowcal.

Disastrous week after I achieved my goal on Monday. Went to do my local shop and on my walk, I tripped, fell, and managed to land myself in A&E with lots of grazes, bruises, a black eye and stitches in my cheek. My glasses were a right off.

On Wednesday I even saw  9st 13.5 lbs on the scales ( the stress of the day before). The eating plan then  went a little variable, but aiming to bring it back into line.

2nd May 2016: Weight: 10st 1.25lbs

9th May 2016: Weight: 10st 2.5lb

That's a gain this week of 1.25lbs.

My aim this week is not to end up in A&E and to loose the 1.25lb I put in this week.

See you all next week

I am so sorry to hear about your fall last Monday, that sounds really nasty.  I hope that A&E were able to patch you up and that you are recovering from all those bruises - how is your eye now?  Hope you have been able to get a new pair of glasses sorted.  I hope you maybe had a spare pair, as it must have felt quite worrying not to have your glasses.  You've been through a stressful experience, and I can see that its had an impact on your weight this week.  Don't let it put you off - it's understandable in the circumstances.  You'll soon get that 1.25 pounds off again.

Keep safe this week!  Here's to you feeling fighting fit again in no time.  But pace yourself and don't overdo it.

Have a great week.

Hi , I am away in van at moment so have been struggling with temptation. Last week was 10.21/4, this week 10.2 so still 1/4 lb down.have found it difficult to have a little more and still keep the same, will be easier at home, fear that my resolove will go if I pass many more nice tea shops, have managed to share scones and cake but I am now more tempted. Was easier when I didn't allow myself any treats. So this week 2 more days away and then back to making soup etc. I am still aiming for 10 stone by may 24th my dad's birthday, that will be half stone under my goal. Plan is then to allow 3 lb fluctuation as it will go up so easily psychological y this will be disasterous if it's more than goal so hence aimin g for less than I need to. Hope everyone is feeling positive with the lovely weather we have had in the south.so we can be active easily x

Loss of 3.2lb this week.  I am really pleased with this, but I don't want to lose so much on a regular basis that I start to look haggard.  I upped my exercise routine last week, so I will up my calories a bit this week and see if I can even the weekly loss out to about the 2lb mark.  I am still well on track for the next ½ stone marker before my son's wedding in 4 weeks time.

Hi MW50,

Congratulations on losing 3.2 pounds this week, that is a really good result!  :-)  I think you've made a very sensible comment though regarding not losing weight too quickly on a regular basis, as slow and steady is sustainable and healthy.  You can tone up at the same time to avoid looking haggard.  Although I do wonder if maybe you're being a harsh critic on yourself to suggest you're looking haggard sometimes.  Just a thought...!

Great that you've upped your exercise routine - and it's great that you're going to up your calories a bit to even out your weight loss to achieve 2 pounds loss for next week.  Good luck!

Hi She1407,

I'm making a start on the stats today, to make better use of time, as it's quieter just now - I think many people weighed in earlier today!  I looked back at your previous reported weigh-in, which was 14 days ago, and you weighed 10 stone 12 pounds then, so this means you've lost 1 pound in the last 2 weeks, so I'll put you down for an average weekly weight-loss of 0.5 pounds if that's ok with you?  That's a respectable loss - imagine it as half a pound of butter or lard, and you can appreciate that it is significant.  Well done!

Hope you have another great week ahead.

I can imagine your hubby was bemused when you dashed off to the shower block before your first cuppa.  I'm sure he'll get used to that Monday morning behaviour in time...!  I believe some people do have cold showers purposefully to burn more calories, but I definitely don't think I could cope with that.

I know you've gained 1 pound this week, but you are on holiday, so a very common time to gain - it's a minimal gain - so well done!  Hope you're enjoying your holiday and I hope the sun shines well today so you can make the most of it.  Hope you're feeling warm and cosy again by the time you read this, and that you've enjoyed a good cuppa to warm you up.

Have a lovely time!  Great that you were able to join us for a weigh-in, whilst on your hols, that is a commitment to do that!  :-)

Morning fellow losers ! I see many people have lost weight in today's weigh-in, many congratulations to all of you. I lost some weight too, and now weigh 211.4 lbs /95.9 kg/ 15 st 1.4, which means a 1.2 kg /2.6 lbs loss.

My scales sometimes show different results depending if I put my feet closer to or farther from centre, and that happened today also. I can't see any difference in myself, so I wasn't sure about which number to trust. I then measured my waist, and it shows 2 cm less, so I do believe the number showing most of measuring times is correct.

I managed 3 strength sessions during the week, a 5K run, a 6K run (first one ever), and a few hours of walking. Average calories per day: 1667. So I noticed that I can lose a good amount of weight on more than 1400 cals per day, which is a very good thing. I even had a doner kebab and chips one day !

I will do my best to reach my next mini-goal of 95.0 kg by next Monday. That would put me in the 14's too.

Fab week to everyone !

Wow Tidirhin, things are going swimmingly for you! You're on a roll! :)

Lowcal and I have been trying to convince someone that upping your calories can sometimes help you to lose weight and here you are, walking proof of that statement! :)

I think with the positioning of your feet on the scales, it's to pick a position and stick with it. I always position mine in the same place, because my scales do fat percentage and other things and there are metal strips that your feet have to go on :)

Fantastic running stats! Well done on your first 6K! That's some achievement! :)

Keep up the excellent work and have another great week :)

Well done on getting back into it Lowcal. It's a good feeling isn't it.  I'm inspired by your plans and think I might focus on the same things such as starting on the NHS 12 week from scratch.  I don't refer to that at all so maybe that explains a thing or 2!

My weight has stayed the same 11.25. On reflection I have continued with spinning classes. 4 last week  but old behaviourschool creeping in such as snacking and not eating a  proper meal.so lots of bits here and there. Snacking on cheese and biscuits! So I want to focus on meals and not snacks this week and really want to get the steps in. I do the spinning and am avoiding the steps. This is going to have to change as I have just signed myself up for 25mile walk in peak District for cancer research  in Sept.  Now I don'twant to be lugging around this extra 2stone on those hills do i😣?

Never walked there so looking forward to it!!

Good luck to everyone today

I think Lowcal's plan to reboot is having an extremely motivating effect on a lot of us Greeny! How clever of her to think of it and guide us all toward being more mindful of what we're doing and to halt the complacency :)

Having said that, a maintain is always better than a gain, so take heart from that! :)

I love the sound of your walk and am quite envious! Maybe we should have a community meet and all do the walk for such a good cause! :)

Onwards and downwards! :)

Hi Greeny4,

Thank you!  Yes, it is a much better feeling to get the holiday excess off than it was to put it on...!  I'm half-way there - and I am feeling much more motivated now that I'm re-booting on the 12 week plan.  Great that you're thinking of doing the same, sign up today - especially for the E-mail support as it helps with the structure.  I've not done that bit before, and I really like it.  suzybenj  really inspired me with her 'reboot post' on Saturday, and it's really helped re-focus me.  I hope you'll also feel refocused too.

Great that you've managed to maintain your weight, that is to be celebrated as it is much better than gaining!  So Congratulations!  Well done also for continuing with your spinning classes - that's excellent exercise.  I tried one of those once, but found it too challenging for me!  I admire your ability to do it!

You've set yourself some good goals in terms of concentrating on your meals this week, and also to considering doing more steps - especially as you have signed up to that 25 mile walk.  Wow, that's a long way!!!  You'll definitely feel fitter if you're lighter for when you do that walk.  It will help enormously.  You can do this!

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Yay! Let's celebrate small successes.... I was 8 st 10 and 1/2 lbs last Monday. Today I'm 8 st 9 and 3/4 lbs.

I had a big night out at a South Asian buffet on Saturday and I've had a bit of wine and gin in the week (my mum's ill and I'm a bit stressed) so, overall, I suppose it's better to lose a bit than gain a bit.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Rozee

Hi Rozee,

Definitely celebrating small successes, and I would say that losing 0.75 pounds this week is more than a small success - imagine that amount of weight sitting on a plate represented by three quarters of a pound of butter or lard, and you can see how significant it is.  Well done in losing that weight!  :-)

I think it's even more impressive in view of the fact that you attended a South Asian Buffet on Saturday.  I bet there were some delicious foods there to choose from.

I'm really sorry to hear your Mum's ill, and I can understand that you're stressed by that.  I hope she will feel a bit better or at least more comfortable.  I hope you manage to cope ok, and that you have some support too.

You've done really well - losing 0.75 pound is great.

Hope your week ahead goes ok, and take care.

13.6 for me this week, so 1lb down. Life really does get in the way of dieting! My goal of 13 st by June is ever fading, but a loss is a loss! Hoping to up my game this week and get a 2lb loss next week. X

Hi Mello33,

Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week, that is really great!!  :-)

You've still got a few weeks till June, so you could still achieve your goal to be 13 stone by then - whatever happens you'll be closer to it by then, and that will be really great!  But I agree with you that you can achieve a 2 pound loss for next week if you really focus and pre-plan and ensure you're covering all bases.  It's perfectly achievable.  I've set myself the same goal, and so let's do it Mello33, we can only do our best and see what happens.

I say we'll do it! :-)

Morning Lowcal. Well done on the weight loss. That's a brilliant result. I've lost 2lbs this week taking me to 11st 7lbs. Really pleased as it's just before my period and I can feel the bloat starting. I think that's me lost 5% as well. I measured yesterday and so far I've lost 1" from my bust, 2" from my waist and 1" from my hips. So pleased with my progress so far. ☺

Hi Nomoreexcuses,

Good morning!  Thanks for your kind words.  :-)

Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week - you're at the half-way point in the 11's now.  It's downhill from here on in towards those 10's.  Congratulations on losing 5% of your body weight - such a great transition, and a brilliant result.  Don't forget you'd be elligible for an 'I did it!' badge if you want one - did you know we have those for certain milestones?  People usually choose when they'd like to receive one, as it can be used for whatever milestone is most motivating to you, and so I don't tend to chase people about it, but at the same time, I think it's worth the occasional mention, to make people aware we do have those badges.  So just let me know if and when you'd like one, as you are definitely elligible as you've lost 5% of your bodyweight.

Great to see your stats are reducing on your body measurements too - those are great results!

I'm really glad you're feeling pleased with your progress so far, it is really good and it's a great feeling to have.  Long may it continue!

Wishing you another great week.

This week has been a bit up and down, I am struggling to stick with the healthy  diet at times, but I know that, if I keep to calorie counting and record my intake I stick to it much better; so from today I hope to get back on track. My weight this week has stayed the same as last week at 83kg which I am glad about but disappointed at the same time. Hoping for a good loss by next Monday as I have the Moonwalk Saturday night.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to vanessa93

Hi Vanessa93,

It's great to hear you're focusing on getting back on track.  It can be quite a balancing act to get used to the healthy diet, but it's well worth it - and hopefully the momentum will increase and your confidence with it will improve too.  I know you're feeling a bit disappointed that your weight has stayed the same this week - but a maintain is much better than a gain, so Congratulations for that.  I think your MoonWalk will be beneficial, and I hope it goes well and that you enjoy it.

I agree that it is much better to record the intake and stick to it, and then the results are more tangible - so good luck with that goal and here's to a shift on the scales for you next week, all being well.

Good luck!

Hi Morrtiss,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum, and especially to our Monday group weigh-in session, and I hope you'll really enjoy being part of this great community.  We work in both imperial and metric, and personally speaking I'm with you on the stones and pounds, as I relate more to them, but I'm gradually getting more used to the Kgs too - I do the stats each week, and I therefore am getting used to working both ways!

Thank you for sharing your starting weight - it can be a daunting first step, so I hope it was ok for you, and here's to you being lighter as the week's progress, and you'll hopefully soon see the 10's on the scales.  You've set yourself a mini-goal as well as your longer term goal, and that's great.  Maybe also take your body measurements, if you want to, as they are also a good measure of progress, and can reflect change on those occasions when the scales don't necessarily change!

Have you seen our Welcome Newbie post yet?  moreless  has put this together, and it is a great resource:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi Moreless (lovely Fab 5'er),

Thanks so much for your encouraging words, which I always appreciate!  I doubt I'll be back in the 12's for next Monday though - but I'll do my best - I think losing 2 pounds would be very nice - so I'll be just above 13 stone ready to get to the 12's the next week - all being well of course!  :-)

Yes, I am really thankful to suzybenj  for her motivating idea to re-boot with the NHS 12 week plan.  So I signed up on Saturday for the E-mail support, and set about being diligent in following all the advice.  I'm going to post an update post on the weekend entitled "Re-booting and following Week 1 of the NHS 12 week plan" and will give my experiences of following it for a whole week, and invite others who are on or around their first week to contribute their own experiences - or even people who have done week 1 in the past - I hope to do the same thing for all 12 weeks, and then compile the threads into a 'Re-boot' collation post, which might be beneficial to people to read.  This is the plan, and so I am keeping a 'diary' of my experiences this week, so I can contribute something hopefully helpful to my update post on Saturday.  So if you're keen to join in the re-boot too - as I saw you expressed interest and enthusiasm to do so, then please do look out for that post and contribute your thoughts etc.  The same for anyone else who happens to be reading this.  I might put a mention about it in the Afternoon/Evening post - so more people will see it and maybe contribute their feedback too.  Infact, I think I'll do a thread about it, just to see if people would like to join in - I'll post it tomorrow though, as things are busy here today!

I also think it's helpful for me to be more 'au fait' with the 12 week plan in terms of following it currently - as I joined this site over 3 years ago, and although I've followed the 'principles' of the plan, I feel I've let certain bits slip, and therefore I feel it would help to really refocus.

I am so sorry to preamble here and 'talk so much' - this is my reply to your excellent loss of 0.5 pound this week, which looks very good on a plate as half a pound of lard, and is much better off than on.  So many Congratulations Moreless, you are continuing to do so well, and making such great progress.

You are a fabulous Fab 5'er, and I can't thank you enough for all the excellent support you give in the site to everyone - this goes for all the Fab 5'ers of course, but I wanted to say this to you today, as you are amazing.

Have a great week, and it's lovely working alongside you and the other Fab 5'ers in this great Monday weigh-in.

Apologies for my extra long reply - I blame it on the cup of coffee I've just had - it's made me talk far too much!

Fantastic Lowcal on your lost!

Last week I was 11.9 and this week I weigh 11.6

This week I aim to loose 2 lbs even though we will be going to Bournemouth from Tuesday till Thursday. I will just have to eat healthy even though everyone else is not.

Hi Zest   :)

I hope you are enjoying the wonderful day today, especially after that massive loss of 3.4 pounds! You have every right to celebrate that loss as it is really great one too! I am really very happy for you!. :)

About my own story now, feeling very disappointed and gutted as I haven't been able to meet my target of losing 2 pounds. :( instead, I have gained 3/4 of a pound.  I don't know what has happened as I had three exercise sessions and two dance sessions this week. The calorie intake was under 1300 except one day when I had about 1467 calories. I must say I have been very stressed over the last week and in bed this morning as I'm not feeling well. I feel as if I have caught the stomach bug or something. so it is adding onto the frustration of already gained weight instead of a loss.  Really disappointed in myself. :'(

Last week I was:  15st 5.19Lbs

This week I am:  15st 5.89Lbs

This gives me a total gain of 3/4 lbs Again! :(

It is quite funny as on Thursday I weighed myself and I was 15st 1.96lbs. I am sticking to my today's weight however.

I feel like a failure and feel as if I am failing all of you by gaining weight only. :'( :(

Sorry everyone.

Thanks for taking time to read through it.

Sana

I'm sorry to hear that you've had a slight gain of 3/4lb Sana and that you're feeling so disappointed.

I wonder why you're choosing to only have 1300 calories/day? I don't know your age, or your height, but for your weight, my guess is that you should be eating nearer 1600 cals! Don't think that the fewer calories you eat, the more you'll lose weight, because your body will take drastic measures to counteract the deficit and will start acting defensively.

Put your details into the NHS BMI calculator again and see what it's saying. You have nothing to lose, but weight! :)

Please, please, don't ever think you're failing yourself, or us, because that is definitely not the case!

Wishing you all the best! :)

Thank You So much for you reply moreless  , I am 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and as you have read above I weigh 15st 5.89lbs.

My BMI is 33.1 according to the NHS calculator and it tells me to have around 1600 calories as you said but over the last couple of weeks I have been off work and just been doing the exercise at home and not been as active as I should have been. Hence I was eating between 1300-1400 calories. I didn't feel much hungry and thought I was okay to get away with that amount of calorie intake.

please help me by guiding me in the right direction as I work better when my flaws are pointed out to me in black and white.

Thank you so much for your courageous words as I really need it right now...

Sana.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to Sana786

You've been eating way under the recommended daily calorie allowance Sana, without exercise you should be eating between 1624 - 2088! Your body is rebelling and telling you it wants more! I'm amazed that you don't feel hungry, because I would be feeling famished! :)

I don't want you to add empty calories, just to make up the deficit, but by adding some butter, cheese, nuts, avocado, olive oil, eggs, fruit, brown rice, quinoa, oats,  to your menu, you can add some nutritionally sound calories :)

Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? That will give you all sorts of useful information :)

I hope this helps Sana, but don't hesitate to ask for more help if you need it :)

Hi all, this is my second post today, my first was a plea for help, which had it gone ignored, I'm guessing I'd be onto my first 'well deserved' (?) chocolate biscuit by now! Instead, and thanks to the responses I've had on here, I've actually stripped, weighed myself, hunted for my waist...failed...and measured around the part of me that starts and finishes at my tummy button.

My goals :- short term, lose a stone in the next 7 weeks as I have a 'do' on June 29th which is quite important to me to look the best I can.

Long term:- to keep losing until my holiday at the end of July, wear a bikini, and thereafter to maintain my weight.

There.....I've said it....help!!!

Start weight today 12 stone 6 llbs, belly measures 40 inches.

I hope to be able to say I've walked 10,000 steps every day AND done some other form of exercise. Thanks for this support. Wish I'd looked properly sooner.

Hello all,I did a weigh in before breakfast this morning and I was 87.4kg,iv just eaten and am 88.1kg not sure which I should record. Do you weigh yourself before or after eating? Well either way am very pleased because I weighed 90kg last Monday, waist size 40, now waist size 39. So not bad at all. And I felt I didn't have a good week so I was just hoping I the weight stayed the same. So good start to the week.

Always weigh yourself at the same time, in the same place, naked, after going to the toilet and before eating/drinking/showering/bathing :)

Your weight today is 87.4kg, which means you've lost 2.6kg! Woohoo! :)

Hey guys,

I've been struggling with my eating and can't seem to stay on track or get back on track - luckily my body loves being difficult and it's pretty good at staying the same weight so although I have been eating too much cake & ice cream I have managed to stay the same at 14st 6-7lbs (after losing a few lbs some weeks ago)

I know this was won't last forever though so I am trying to get back on track - I'm stick really well to my zumba & body attack classes and my fitness has improved a lot

I really recommend body attack

hmm perhaps I do not understand the 12 week plan, but from what I saw it was just the usual thing of reducing portions and moving more - I tried the portions before but it left me very hungry - I'll watch your journey though

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to gracie1985

Were you trying to stick to 1400 calories, or did you get a personalised calorie range? If you were trying to stick to 1400 calories, it wouldn't have been enough and would have left you feeling hungry. Put your details into the BMI calculator and see what it comes up with :)

There's more to the 12 week plan than eating less and moving more, but it's all down to personal preference :)

Let's hope that cutting back on cake and ice-cream will do the trick :)

Also means that since I started 3 weeks ago I have now lost a total of 11 or 12 pounds (i think) as my starting weight was 93kg! Slowly getting there. x

You've lost a total of 5.1 kg since you started.  I think that is 11.22 pounds?  That is phenomenal in just 3 weeks.  I would say you've lost a significant amount.

Hope you enjoy this week.

Hi all, this is the end of my second week, started at 12st 10lb, stayed the same for last week but weighed in at 12st 7lb this morning.  3lb off. I stayed off the wine and only a little bread but stuck around 1500 calories most days. I do think it is the type of food I eat as I am (fortunately) not a chocolate chick and chips, pastry and crisps are rarely on my radar. I do like my wine, ice cream and general grazing (so of it's there I tend to graze!). This doesn't tend to happen at home, just at work, events etc. so I am exercising up my iron will, working up my click box portion controls and moving towards unprocessed food, which means I am looking at processed food and considering how many chemicals, corn syrup and other things are in it. Sometimes hard, but it helped when I gave up smoking - decided cigs were full of fat and camel dung! It worked (eventually) and I have been 10 years without them. Oh how we can trick our minds. Or maybe I just have a simple one - so a long ramble to say - yippeeee 3lbs

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to SandyJJ

Hi Sandyjj,

Wow, that's an excellent result for this week - glad you stayed focused after maintaining your weight in your first week - it shows that patience and keeping on track will pay off.  Congratulations on losing 3 pounds this week.  Really good!

I have enjoyed reading your post - I appreciate the detail and wouldn't describe it as a 'ramble' at all - you are describing the changes you're making and I love the fact you're moving away from processed foods - I have also done that over the years, and I much prefer the taste of my food and knowing that it generally doesn't have too many added chemicals etc as well as all the sugar and salt that can be contained in shop bought processed products.

Congratulations also on not smoking for 10 years, that is really great!  Your association with the 'fat and camel dung' obviously worked - I found a similar effect whilst reading a conversation above between Jesterpuss1  and moreless  about chocolates and dirty-bottomed sheep - although I hasten to add that Jesterpuss1 has confirmed all her lovely sheep are clean and lovely girls!  But somehow I am left with an 'image' relating to chocolate which feels a bit like some form of subliminal that is hard to erase - until tomorrow evening when I have my solitary piece of dark nutty chocolate, when I am sure I'll have forgotten all about it.

Anyway, I am giving you a similarly lengthy reply!

Like you say - yippeee to your 3 pounds lost!

Have another great week ahead.

Good evening and apologies for late post. The Bu has a beagle friend staying over for 10days so up at 6am to walk them before work. Honestly, I don't know where they get their energy from, they haven't stopped all day....and neither have I!!

On the plus side I have lost 0.7 kg this week. I'm really chuffed as last week after several weeks of maintaining my weight I gained 0.5 kg. I'm hoping for a small loss this week as I'll have extra walking with the dogs and work so onwards and downwards. A push to shift the last 2kg to get to my target of 60kg. I have a wedding to look forward to in 4 weeks so here's hoping👍

Wow Zest  !!! 3.4lbs sounds like you are back on track and then some! Well done!!!

I was not so successful this week, first I must apologise for missing the weigh in yesterday, we were away at the crack of dawn on a house hunting mission. We broke down on the motorway and after a huge amount of stress and frustration we were able to see the houses we wanted to see but didn't get home until nearly 9pm! So I've weighed in this morning and have gone from 207.4 to 207.8 so I've gained .4 of a pound. Humph 😡

Im still in the 14's so that's a positive, and ladies week started this morning so it may all just be retained water.  But it just goes to show me, how important exercise is to my weight loss. I've literally done no phys this week after spraining my ankle last week. The swelling has all but gone but, It still hurts so I'm nervous to start running again.  Perhaps I'll give it a couple more days.

I hope you're all well and feeling positive about the week ahead.

Much love from me and the girls xx

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Bluewings

Hi Bluewings,

Thanks for your very encouraging words, I really appreciate them!!! :-)

No worries about weighing in today - it's great to see you, and it sounds like you have had a stressful time of it with your house hunting and breaking down on the motorway!  Glad you managed to get through yesterday and safely home at the end of the day - even though it was 9pm by the time your day finished!!!  You only have a very very small gain of 0.4 pound, and might even be due to the stress, so maybe today it will start coming off again - all being well.  It could easily be retained water - so many factors can contribute - even a bowel motion or extra salt in a meal - that kind of thing.

Glad to hear your ankle is a bit better and that the swelling has all but gone, but the fact it is still painful means you need to really take it easy and not strain it further.  So do be careful and pace yourself!

Wishing you and the girls a fantastic week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Having been very down for the last few weeks my weight has crept up again. Instead of being cross with myself though, I have started to eat as healthily as I can again. Yesterday I was 84.5 KG. My first goal is 82. Small steps. Wishing everyone well. :)

Hi Dutchgirl,

I'm so sorry to hear you've been feeling very down for the last few weeks.  I really hope that your mood improves and you feel a bit better as the days go on.  I am glad that you haven't been hard on yourself for the fact your weight has crept up a bit - as when you are experiencing lower mood it can be really tough to find the motivation to focus on your goals - but it's great to hear you're starting to eat as healthily as you can again, and I will take 84.5kg as your re-start weight, and I would like to wish you success in achieving your first goal to get to 82 kg.  Small steps are definitely sustainable and I would like to wish you a better week ahead.

Take it easy, pace yourself, and most of all, be kind to yourself.  Really glad you're back with us, and hope things improve as time goes on.

Evening all!

I'm late to weigh in yet again! Just always seem to be so busy! Plus I will keep this short as I need to get to bed! I'm wrecked.

Not feeling too bad this week. Had a good week overall although yesterday managed to shove 3 large cookies down my throat. Plus I've had ice cream tonight! I will re set tomorrow and hopefully claw back my week.

Weighing yesterday I was 12st 5lbs. So I've put on 0.5lbs this week. Seems pretty easy to get back off so I will do my best. Plus I don't want to let this weight slowly creep back up to 13st again!

Meals are all planned for the rest of the week and I am currently keeping a handwritten food diary instead of logging on MFP. For some reason it seems to be helping me stay on track a bit better at the moment. I'll just go with what's working! :)

Hope everyone is good for the rest of the week! Be strong! (stronger than I was when trying to resist the cookies!)

You've only gained 0.5 pound, and I'm sure you'll get that off again in no time, providing you keep on track and concentrate on your week.  You can do this!!!  You're still well within the 12's, and that is so fantastic!!!  I hope to join you again there soon!!!  I'm getting there...!!!

Great that the hand-written diary is helping you at the moment, it's important to utilise whatever tools work best for you personally, and I think you're very sensible to go with what's working.

Yes, here's to being strong this week.

Have a great week.

Hi Emma-and,

Great to see you and apologies that you haven't had a reply till now - I'm not around as much after Monday, and only just noticed your reply - not sure why that was...!  Apologies.

I'm glad that your daughter has received a diagnosis, so you know the reason why she didn't put weight on.  I hope you're all coping ok and adjusting to that diagnosis, and that you are getting some good support and information etc on her treatment going forward.  Great that she's back home again now.

I think you've done well to only gain 1 pound in those circumstances, as it's been a stressful time for you all.  Take care, and hope your week goes well.
