Bread

I really like nice bread especially multigrain/seeded. When I am on a diet I prefer to eat 'proper' bread and have less of it rather than have lower calorie bread, what are your thoughts on this?

I have a toastie every day (or poached egg sandwich) at lunchtime, but I count the calories as part of my 1400.  I'm doing the NHS 12 week plan, I just don't normally have biscuits/crisps etc.  I choose my toastie :-)  I did go over today though, but still under 2000 and I aim for 1400, sometimes I'm there and sometimes a little over (more than normal today but never mind).

I personally think an overall balanced diet is more important for my health, and I want to be able to continue in the same vein, so for me it's got to be sustainable.

I agree 😊 I love bread, and have lost weight before by giving it up or restricting it drastically, but always gained it after 😞  this time I can have 5/6 servings a day of starchy carbs and it's FAB 😊 Feel totally confident of staying on this plan long term 😊 (Weight loss is slow but steady, about 1/2 lb a week). And I agree about eating our favourite foods but perhaps less often, I can't do with feeling deprived 😊

I am with you on that one.  We buy the seeded bread and mostly have either one slice at breakfast with scrambled/poached egg or two slices at lunchtime if we are taking sandwiches out with us.

What I have to avoid is home-baked bread as I wouldn't be able to stop at one slice!

I've completely cut bread. It's bean easier than I thought it would be. Replaced sandwiches with home made soup and ryvitas instead of bread. Instead of toast/bacon butties...weetabix!

Hi Caz28, this is my first day and I have to say *stands up to address the room* 'My name is Yelly and I am a bread addict!' I'm not prepared to give it up. It's hard enough that I have a constant sweet tooth to contend with let alone giving up bread! So I just try to have 2 slices a day at most - whether that be normal bread (wholgrain/wholemeal/seeded - I like white, but unfortunately my stomach does not) or wraps, or today I just had a small wholemeal bread roll. I will incorporate ryvitas more into my diet too and like other people on the board have said, have something else like soup or cereal instead at times. But when you want bread, have what you want, count the calories and just try to have less. Small steps until you find what works for you and your weight loss :-)

Although I'm eating low-ish carb I do still have some  bread, I really love it and unlike rice/ pasta/ potatoes it doesn't cause me bloating or blood sugar ups and downs.  If I have time I make my own with a mixture of rye and wholemeal flours ( Jamie Oliver recipe) but have a loaf of granary wholemeal or seeded wholemeal In the freezer as a back up ☀️

I am eating very low carb at the moment.  So really missing bread.  My Lidl shopping at the beginning of the week with their fab fresh baked section was like being tortured!  It is working though.  I am on a mission to get to 5lbs below my previously reached goal. This was my original plan when I hit goal (for all of 1 week) last year.  To give myself the 5lbs up to goal to learn maintenance.  Because I am so going to maintain this time.      When I am trying to lose lbs, I only eat ready portioned bread (like sliced or individual rolls, wraps etc and most of that is low kcal.  I know I'm paying them to eat smaller amounts, but I am prepared to do that on the way down, to keep stricter portion control.  In a perfect world we would go back to making our own breads, or go to the bakery 10 doors away for organic wholemeal and granary loaves and not ask them to slice it on their great machine.  I might even be putting butter on it occasionally.  But not till I feel I can cope with it.

I have never had any willpower!  If it isn't there I can't eat it!  I'm too lazy to go out and get it!  Just knew being lazy had to work one day!
