Hey all. Decided today to try to lose weight. BMI calculator suggests losing 3St 3lb or 20kg sticking to a 1900 calorie limit. Tried before but never been motivated enough but approaching obesity so hopefully this will scare me into some action also not liking the size if my stomach!

Good luck to all.

Matt

Hi Matt,

Sounds like you are starting from the same place that I did !

My BMI also suggested a daily calorie intake of around 2000 but I have managed OK sticking to 1400-1600 calories a day and not felt hungry, my activity levels are not high although some heavy gardening has helped.

I would suggest that you write everything down, absolutely everything, and count the calories as you go along. Some days will be over 2000 others below 1400 but it all evens out.

I have come to the end of the 12 week plan now and I am "rolling it over" as they say. I have learned a lot from this forum and the support is brilliant too.

In my case I have adjusted things, over the weeks, to suit myself and have cut down tremendously on bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. I have also reduced alcohol intake to a modest 1 bottle of wine a week. I have not had sugar in drinks for ages but I would cut sugar out and anything that has added sugar in.

eat "clean", (no processed foods), and wherever possible cook from scratch yourself so you know exactly what goes into what you are eating, cut down on take-aways and ready meals. And weigh everything, so your portion sizes are right, most people guess 50% more than they should.

Does it work? Week 13 for me and I have lost 35lbs, the belly/waist has gone from 48 inches to 41 inches and a total of 25 inches off of my body. I am no longer obese, merely overweight. So - YES IT DOES WORK!

Good luck :-) John

Thanks for your reply! I'm starting again, shifted a few kg then have put it all on again. Went for a run today so just need to get some consistency. Keep it going til Christmas and see where I'm at. Great advice.

Best of luck in your re-start! I have "stabalised" at around 10lbs above what I would like to be but I am still recovering from an operation, so activity levels are down to zero :-(

Best of luck - John
