Hi, I'm new today and looking to lose two stones. I've tried lots of diets but need to buckle down and get to a healthy weight. Are there any good tips you can share please?

Hi Updown,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS community forum.  I would recommend looking at the NHS 12 week plan.  You can find a link to it in our Welcome Newbie post:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Also, there are lots of great suggestions in that thread that people have put forward who are community members, and it does make interesting reading.

Good luck with your goals, and if you fancy a Monday weigh-in, then why not have a look at our Monday group weigh-in sessions - the next one will be posted on Monday morning.  You'd be very welcome to join us, if that idea appeals.

Have a great weekend, and a good week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Others here will give you plenty of useful advice and you will find this forum a mine of information.

What a lot of us do is to use an online calorie diary to keep track of what we have eaten and also to track our exercise activity each day.  (Myfitnesspal is popular, and also Nutracheck).

Aim to lose 1 or 2lb a week; try losing any more and your body will think it is being starved, and you won't be able to stay the course.  Remember you are trying to get into better habits for life so you don't regain it all again.

Eat your full calorie allowance - usually around 1400 per day depending on your size, height, activity levels etc and fill up with water, tea, fruit teas, coffee etc.

If you have a bad day - just come on to this forum and chat about it, and then get back on track from the next day on.  It works - I have lost 22lbs since January this year and am around half way to my target!

Learn to love your water based veg, it's better to than lots of fruits as minus sugar, tomatoes, celery, carrots and peppers to name a few ( been buying the basics peppers to nibble on).    Also drink lots of water based drinks such as herbal tea, which adds your losses too.

We all have bad days too, just regard them as well that, it's a daily thing, try to see it as that.............not ruining a whole week, it's part if the journey for most

I'm sure it will come off f you stick to the calorie count. It's always hard work at first but I'm determined to make it work :)

Please don't give up although I understand your frustration 😕 My weight goes up and down a lot, I weigh myself twice a week but have to look the monthly trend, my losses go something like, zero, 1/4 lb, 3 lbs, back to zero etc . . .  😕 Trust me, if you stick to plan weight WILL come off but with monthly cycles it may be up and down .

Good luck 😊

I've done weight watchers and slimming world, and even Atkins. Lost weight on them all but put it back on when I stopped. I'm starting the NHS 12 week plan on Monday 😊

Goodluck with your diet !

I think the trick for me is not to be "on a diet" 😕 I have made permanent changes to my eating habits, mostly portion control, and therefore don't "break" my diet on holiday/Christmas etc, just work around it. Finding the right plan is key, one you do feel able to follow easily. 😊 (Calorie counted plan for me)

Good luck!

Thank you, that's good advice x

I'm on week 13 have for the first time actually enjoyed losing weight, I'm not hungry, I want to and am exercising more, never thought I'd stick to this but the support is fantastic, you don't even need to post if you don't feel like it, the advice is there, I've lost 34 pounds since January 2016  another 35 pounds to go.

Trust me I've yo-yo dieted for years, tried everything thing you can think of but this is definitely the way to go.

Good luck Kate x
