Struggling with weight loss

Hi everybody,

I need to lose 4 stone I gained after sustaining a serious knee injury. I've tried healthy eating and sliming world but the problem I have is willpower like alot of others.

I also have the added complication of not being 100% mobile due to injury and Crps 😔. I need to lose weight, I know that if I do the impact on my knees would be less, it's just boring sat at home after an operation and nothing to do so I snack 😕..

I need to find a way of keeping willpower!

Hi VikMattz,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum.  I know you're keen to find some willpower to lose weight, following your knee injury, and you're getting bored at home following your operation.  I hope you're recuperating ok, and I hope you'll get lots of support and encouragement from being part of this community.  It's a friendly and supportive place.  We have a Welcome Newbie post, which moreless  has collated, and I'd like to give you a link to that:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

We have a weekly weigh-in group which is also really well attended and supportive, if you'd like to participate in something like that.  Have a look at the Events section for the latest thread - the Events section is on the right-hand-side of the homepage, below the Pinned Posts.

Do have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as that is a good structure.  Naturally any exercise would be best to be advised by your healthcare professionals involved in your rehab, as you don't want to hamper your recuperation.

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey, and hope you enjoy being part of the forum.

Lowcal :-)

Hi,

I understand exactly what you mean. I have a seriously damaged ankle that wont allow me to do any running and even light walking becomes painful after 15-20 mins.

I have tried all the advertised diets to no real success until I tried a diet advised by my therapist. No calorie counting needed.

Breakfast - a small bowl of cereal (same size as a individual box) or 1 slice of toast.

Midmorning snack - a piece of fruit

Lunch - A sandwich. (doesn't matter what the filling or bread type) but just 1 sandwich. no crisps etc.

Mid afternoon snack - Another piece of fruit

Evening meal - Use a side plate, portion size of a clenched fist. (doesn't matter what you eat just the size. i.e. I've had pizza a few times but only 1 slice and nothing else.

Supper - another piece of fruit.

No chocolate, crisps or biscuits. (I know nightmare)

I have always been hungry on this diet but never starving as its only ever a few hours till something else to eat.

I'm not saying this will work or make it easier for motivation but I've lost 4 stone since the start of the year.

I've also found it important to have a treat so every time I drop under a round stone I have an evening out with the family at a restaurant eating what I want. Be careful though as I have wasted a lot of food cos I cant eat that much any more. But everyone needs a treat.

My advice would be to drink more, water with lemon or lime ( no bought carbonated stuff), herbal teas and keeping your hands occupied, you know the rest, as you've done it, good luck,!

Hello VikMattz

Your story really resonates with me 😕 Mine is a very similar story, with additional weight gain and increasing immobility the result.

I followed a (generous) calorie counted plan and have lost over two stone without being hungry. I have also gradually increased the exercise (swimming, indoor cycling and yoga) which has really helped.

Good luck 😊

I'm sure I've seen chair based exercises on YouTube which may be worth a look into? I log everything I eat so I can curb what I'm eating too the NHS plan is great. Everyone is very supportive here. Wishing you success x
