For the first time today, I received not one, but TWO compliments on my weight loss.  Finally, after six months of long hard slog!  I feel encouraged to carry on now.

It certainly is, gave me a bit of pep in my step, I can tell you!

Well done! Don't forget, people who see you daily, or very frequently may not notice your weight loss as easily as someone who only sees you every few months or so 😊

Thank you!  Yes, that is so true, I hadn't seen either of these people for a couple of months, whereas people who see me regularly don't notice at all.

Thanks Anna!  It feels good to finally get somewhere after all this time and effort!

Great post, why not take a photo as a reminder of where you are and how far you have come ?

😇

Flossie, you remind me of my horrible secret - I never took a photo of myself at the beginning.  I kind of wish I had now.

Still, if I took one of where I am at now, there would still be a difference in 6 months time, I will do it, thanks for making me think of it!

in reply to LessToLose

Go for it ! It will be so worth it. Keep the clothes a well then when at your target get them out again !! Powerful stuff !

Today  I  found some old photos  and I'm really shocked at the size I was. It has really spurred me on to once and for all get this last stone and a bit off and off for good.

😇

Haha!  I had a nice comment about my skin the other week which was a surprise, I didn't think about the other benefits of ditching the junk and was chuffed :-)  If people are noticing, you must be doing great and glad it's spurred you on.

Clearer skin and eyes is certainly something to celebrate - it is great that they noticed. :)

But haven't you lost 5 stone? And nobody's noticed yet? I was miffed when I'd lost 12 kg and people I see every day hadn't noticed. But 5 stone is a lot of you just to disappear into thin air!

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to JaySeeSkinny

I know!  That was really annoying me, I can tell you :(

JaySeeSkinny profile image
JaySeeSkinny in reply to LessToLose

Right, we have to send the troops round. Every second day someone has to knock on your door and tell you how great you look and how thin you are! 70 lbs less of you and no one notices - incredible!

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to JaySeeSkinny

It's OK, I feel much better about it now.  Perhaps half the problem is that I am generally wearing the same old clothes, being reluctant to buy any because I hope to shrink out of them in a couple of months.

in reply to LessToLose

Sort this out LTL! New clothes don't have to be expensive - go to Sainsburys, Matalan, Primark, even the charity shop. Then you'll have new things to find they've become too big. But also a sense of real achievement at where you've got to so far too - you need to feel good now, not keep postponing it :)

Great idea, Ruth, it would be a bit of a morale booster I am sure.  Looks like I will be shopping on Saturday then!

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply to LessToLose

LTL now you have your answer. I had the same story no one noticed that I lost weight and than suddenly i started to wear clothes more fitted no more baggy and than al of a sudden people started noticing. They told me because it makes a huge difference to what you wear. I personally feel better wearing fitted rather than baggy. I just said I am going to stop wearing clothes that are so baggy I feel like a tramp. Sorry I really am rambling!

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to bakersdozen

I am so used to dressing to hide myself, it will be a big change.

I must confess to looking a bit tramp-like a lot of the time.

Shopping will be happening soon!

bakersdozen profile image
bakersdozen in reply to LessToLose

Off course it will be a huge change but I know that you will go shopping very soon and you will look and feel on high! Can't wait! Go for it!

The way to look at it LTL, is that those people you see every day, have never looked at your size. They see the LTL that matters, the personality, the heart and soul of you. They're not interested in the outer packaging.

We can vouch for the lovely person that you are and never needed to see you, to know that! :)

You don't need confirmation from others that you're doing the right thing. You know it! :)

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to moreless

Aw, that is lovely and I have gone and welled up now, you are right, we do tend to see the inner person, especially when we know them well and see them every day.

Thank you, I wish I had mentioned this on Saturday when I was rather miffed about this very subject!

If nothing else, remember every day, that we acknowledge the effort that's gone into your transformation and applaud it!

Only somebody that's walked in your shoes, as we fellow forum members have, can truly appreciate your hard work.

We empathise with the trials and tribulations of your journey and celebrate the achievements.

If ever something's playing on your mind, we're your willing audience :)

Never doubt yourself LTL, you're a star! :)

It is such a nice boost when people start noticing!

Now you are dancing or rather swimming in the sea so you are burning more km's and get skinny and off to buy yourself a new wardrobe! Lucky one!

I am soooo looking forward to getting some new clothes soon, it is mostly sports bras and leggings at the moment to tide me over.

Good for you! Getting leggings you must be very skinny. Now I am jealous! Your name has to change to skinny not lotoloose!

Nooo, they are just for at the gym - and I wear two pairs because they stretch so much over my derrière (I am far too posh to say bum) I am scared they are see through right where I don't want them to be see through!

If you are after PE kit, they do great sports gear in TK Maxx at a good price.  I picked up some nice trainers and a sports bra the other week and I'm really pleased with them.

Maybe you can take one of those photos when you are standing in one leg of your former larger size trousers?  Do you have any left?  That will make us smile ...and think a bit!

Hello there!

I'm a newbie ... Have lost the weight a couple of times but always end up back and heavier than ever.  My journey this time will be long and arduous. However; the reason i wanted to say hi was to say...

I have found that when I have got close to where I want to be (within 10lb and 5lb the second time) people kept saying how good I looked and how I didn't need to loose any more.  It was kind of them but I ended up believing them and becoming less focused.  I'm a weak willed lass and in a way it was sabotage ... So if you'll forgive me ...  Tell me I look dreadful until I FINALLY make it this time!

Congrats to all of you that are doing so well.

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to TedEBear

Heh, you do have a point - I have experienced exactly the same in the past.

Forget those comments and just go for it to get to where you feel happiest.

Ah LessToLose , so you're obviously not a hoarder!  I have been "shopping in the attic" all the way down to goal.  Nothing beats finally getting back into those jeans you had to abandon because you couldn't zip them up (or sit down, or walk etc).  I have gone down 6 sizes and enjoyed every little inch leaving me!  Another discovery was that fashion goes in cycles so there was nearly always something up there that was bang on trend with a little tweaking.  And any day now all my large sizes will be off to the charity shop.  Honestly!  Those colleagues, family and friends might be worrying about suggesting that you used to be fat and that is why they haven't noticed.  Bet they have really.

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to Venusflytrap

No, I don't hoard at all, I have moved home several times over the last few years and always have a good clear out, never believing that I could ever lose the weight again.

Well done on getting out of those larger sizes - yes take them to the charity shop, you never want to wear them again!

Venusflytrap profile image
Venusflytrap

Hi LessToLose , I could do with you standing over me making me have a good clear out.  I still have boxes packed and labelled for the move to my very first flat 46 years ago.  Time to let go I think!  Or maybe a membership of pack rats anonymous is what I need.

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to Venusflytrap

I tend to go by the rule that if I haven't needed something for a year, then I don't need it at all, so out it goes!

Venusflytrap profile image
Venusflytrap

Shame you can't bottle that attitude, I would buy it.  And at least feed it to the guys in the house, as I am quite happy to dump their stuff!  Yes I know that's a double standard.  I did hope that clearing my Dad's house would have cured me.  His attic had a pile of the old gas pipes and fittings taken out when we got North Sea Gas.  "Because some day that will run out and we will have to go back to coal gas."  Guess it never occurred to him that all the mines would all be closed by then.  It's being brought up by people who spent their formative years in World War II.  I've heard of Grandmas having boxes of small lengths of string marked "String - too short to use."  So there are people out there worse than me.  But not many!  Should have had a career as an archivist, rather than a bureaucrat.

LessToLose profile image
LessToLoseRestart April 2024 in reply to Venusflytrap

My dad was a nightmare for hanging on to things "just in case", the war years did have an impact and I do have to reign in those tendencies myself.

It's good to know that it is possible to give up being a squirrel.  I'll have to plan a project and put some deadlines in.  Soon.  (See what I mean?).  Thanks for the support, LessToLose .  Most welcome.
