Daft dance whenever you can, Donna summers electro/disco version of i feel love is a real fire starter .  Makes you happy too :)  Then when you feel fitter you can start moving more, run on the spot for 2 minutes, or march hard then one minute rest.  Its called high intensity and it is known to speed your fat burning abilities for up to 5 hours.  You will do it ;)

Hi Clumsymare & good luck.

Walking really is great if you can keep it up. Distance for distance you burn the same calories as running it is just slower but also you are less likely to suffer injury. Can you get someone to walk with you or maybe even a few friends? Also, I find listening to music really helps when I am on my own - it can be boring but it is worth it :)

It depends where you walk. I live in a big city (Munich) and walk immediately after work to a station further down the line. I've had great fun going down side streets and just heading off on roads to explore. I know Munich pretty well so I won't get lost and I keep finding new routes. In the morning I walk in the fields around the residential area where I live. Today the stars were out, dawn was breaking and there was mist across the fields. Last week I saw hedgehogs, rabbits, hares, squirrels. Even if it is sometimes boring it clears my head and gets my thoughts sorted for the day. And it helps with weight loss.

I love walking in the countryside and seeing all the wildlife, last time I was out I saw several dear, a fox and loads of squirrels I always look at a walk as being lucky to be alive and appreciate the beauty of nature. Definitely try listening to music or take a friend or too along, good luck

Hiya and welcome , I think walking can be boring if it's not something you enjoy! The location or good weather definition helps! :)

I agree with TheHud  about the dancing! Haha you should've seen me on Saturday, I was doing some housework with the radio on - that is until Pharrell Williams "happy" came on! Then I danced the whole way through!! And by the end my pulse rate was up and I was smiling! Definitely " happy " :) Good luck!

Stick with the forum it's great! :)

Hello, i just joined here yesterday but have been active since January 2015. Do you have someone you can walk with? I normally walk daily with a friend but she is on holiday so have been going with my hubby or on my own. I agree going alone is tougher as the time seems to pass more slowly and the journey takes longer. I walk and listen to music but doing it with a friend is defy better for me.

Nothing to add, apart from the exercise routine will be more successful if you enjoy it, so perhaps try a class, evdn a dance class, or find a walking route you enjoy, even window shopping counts! but it will be difficult to find motivation if you don't enjoy it. Good luck!

Hi Clumsymare ,  I find walking boring too.  My solution, which only works part of the time, is to have a separate journey for each action.  So today I need to go to the library, the doctor's, a couple of shops and the bank.  It would be so easy to put them all into one circular walk as they are relatively near each other.  But I think I might go out and do each one separately.  Then I am still walking with a purpose but taking more steps!  Before I retired, I used to share a walk near work with a colleague in our lunch hour.  It was boring suburban streets but chatting made it interesting and it introduced us to the area we worked in better than any other method.  We were both depressed at the time, and I honestly think those walks outside in the middle of our day saved our sanity.  When I'm in the house too much, I apply the lots of little journeys idea to housework.  Instead of carrying big piles of stuff round the house, I make lots of little journeys with just a couple of things.  It can double my step total so it is worth it.  In case you think all this sounds too good to be true.  My aim is only 5,000 steps, as I am out of practice because of ill health.  And a lot of days, I only get to about 2,000.  But I am sure I will get there, if I keep going.  Good luck with introducing more activity into your life, Venus

Have you tried using the Wii it's really good and you can monitor your progress

I actually love walking on my own but am lucky to live in a pretty area. I have a fitbit and always aim to meet my daily target even if it means walking on the spot in front of the TV at night! Good luck. The benefits to health and cheerfulness are definitely worth it!!
