Need to be determined - starting again.

Ok, long weekend over and I am so tired. I found myself unable to get myself up from the floor, crawling over to the sofa and pulling myself up. My grandkids just watched, silent. I felt so old, and I'm not. My weight has always been a problem but I'm determined to make a start (again). BMI is obese - no surprise. How do I stay on track for more than a few weeks? I'm getting so fed up of being lazy.

Hi suecblue

I started the 12 week NHSChoices 3 weeks ago, the first 2 weeks were great and lost 7lb but this week completely off track and put 3 back on.  I will go back as from today, having posted earlier another member told me this happens and not be disappointed as I was. So, thanks to them I feel much better.

It's the feeling that you are doing something about your weight that's needed. Others have said concentrate on your health rather than your weight  as one follows the other.

Like yourself I'm obese, very tired but after only the first two weeks I felt much better.

I thank the people who come on here with all their support and ideas.

Good luck with your journey I know if others like us can do it, so can we.

Thank you. I always feel positive on my first day - and it amazes me that, when you eat healthily, you find it hard to actually eat your calorie allowance. I have eaten less before, from trying to be 'too good', but I know that doesn't work. I'll see how I progress with week 1, and - hopefully - I'll feel more perky by week 2. Thank you again.

Take it one day at a time 😕 Have enough to eat, you will have quite a generous calorie allowance so use it, work on creating good habits for permanent health . . . Ypu probably know all this but try to tell yourself you WILL succeed this time 😊

Good luck!

Thank you, and I agree - making sure I eat enough, but eat well, is the main key. I'm being positive. Plus, reading some of the posts today, I feel I have somewhere to visit if I need an extra boost. Thank you again.

Hi Suecblue,

What a lovely photo!

I can hear from your post that you've had a challenging and tiring time, but it's great to hear you've come here and that you'd like to make a re-start with your weight - hopefully we can help and support you on your journey.  I'd like to give you a link to our 'Welcome Newbie' post, which a lovely forum member called moreless  has put together:

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Also, I hope you'll join us for the Monday group weigh-ins, if the idea of a weekly weigh-in appeals to you.  I realise it doesn't appeal to everyone, but it is a supportive and friendly group.  The latest thread is in the Events section (right-hand-side of the homepage), so do have a look and see if you might like to join us.  You'd be very welcome!

Many of us are following the NhS 12 week plan (click on the icon above, labelled Weight Loss NHS to access the 12 week downloadable plan), and see if it's something that you might like to try.

Whatever you do, I hope you have a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Hello, and thank you. I did notice a few of your posts and found them encouraging. Yes, I would like to join the Monday group, thank you.

You can do it, I have lost 5 stone since I started last September.  It may take you 6 months or a year or whatever it takes, but that time will pass anyway, so you may as well lose some weight while you are at it!

Thank you. My best has been 2st, but I feel that can be another target further down the line :)

Set yourself small goals and take little steps. You can do it!  I think it gets easier after a while when the healthier habits start to kick in. Good luck and stay determined!

There's a lot of support and good advice on here. On the subject of not being able to keep going, have you considered setting yourself intermediate targets where you will 'stabilise' your weight? This worked for me last year- I was aiming for tiny tiny 3lb or so targets ( 'below X stone'; 'out of double figures for lbs in X stone'; less than X +1/2 stone' etc) and then a target weight to stabilise at and maintain for a few weeks until I felt able to tackle some more weight loss. Worked for me-I'm still more than I want to be but I have lost over two stone a and I am an awkward rebellious sort who can't stick to a diet plan at all. Good luck!

Thank you. I know the first week loss is always good, it's keeping motivated then on after, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I hope you are feeling better by now (this post shows me as 18 days ago). I can relate so much regards the 'feeling old'. I put a lot of it down to hormones and depression, my outlook so on.

I've been on this plan two weeks and I am not sure if I have lost weight, but I have lost inches at least. I've got the annoying big tummy, other than that I am not bad. However, I still feel old.

I've decided that for me, it has to work at my own pace (because of the depression) and I have to understand at least I am pointing in the right direction. I have an 'all or nothing' attitude which will not serve me very well in this instant. As I feel for me, it is a day by day thing. I do the best I can. Even if it is hour by hour.

I've reduced salt, carbs, sugar and bad fats. I have also lowered my portions.

I do try and stay in the calorie allowance each day. If I am bad one day, I eat less the next day.

It is the working out that I find hard. I used to love working out, now I hate, despise it. However, I know that it will make me feel better on all levels. So I do what I can as I tend to beat myself up when I don't.

I heard a great quote from a doctor once, "bringing joy and self love into your life, gives you more benefits than any diet and or exercise". I'm trying to just love me the way I am and also make changes (which occur naturally from caring about me) which will benefit my health. :)

You sound like you're doing everything good to me. Try getting a pedometer as I said earlier I try to do 8000 steps a day but try to do what you can then increase bit by bit. When the adverts are on get up and walk around you'll be surprised how many steps you can do in 2-3 minutes.

You will feel fitter soon and weight loss is great but your health and wellbeing is better.

We are all feel like you sometimes. Read what others say you'll see yourself time and again. They've done or doing it so can we.

Good luck

How's it going suecblue. I'm struggling quite badly but have to get back on track. Just wanted to know how you're doing.

Best wishes

Hi there, well I'm away in Spain at the moment and it hasn't stopped raining - which means too much time in places where you graze & drink :(

I was so looking forward to the walking, talking, lazing & sun bathing - but no such luck. Plus the dreary days make you feel dreary too - which isn't good.

Sorry to hear you're struggling. Best to wipe out a bad day, don't ponder & just get onto the next. If that's a bit bad too, then try again. Whatever you do don't let it get to you so much that you give up. You can break your way through, even if it's to push away just 1lb. I would think you have a lot on your mind, but don't let one bad day spoil your hard work so far. Thinking of you & rooting for you. Sending smiles :)

Thank you so much. I'm sorry about The rain in Spain. The sun will come out for both of us, you'll see. Have a great holiday, just enjoy a different routine.

Smiles back to you. Best wishes x
