Hi.

I joined the forum some time ago but have only just got round to introducing myself. I'm Sue, I'm 61 & I retired from work 4 years ago 😊. I'm very overweight & like a lot of people stuck in a bit of a rut. Hoping that this forum will help get me out of it. I'm a vegetarian & not a very good cook 😊

Hi Suzie54. I have found this forum to be really helpful and motivating. Always finding lots of advice to read. Its hard to change habits especially when they have been set for a while. I have been sampling the frozen vegetarian range in Sainsburys recently. My nephew who is a vegetarian came for dinner. So we bought a selection. They were all delicious. Nut cutlets and mushroom and spinach bakes were our favourites. We had them with big bowl of salad and they did fill me up. Have you tried any of them? Hope you can find lots of information to help get you out of that rut!

Hi muffintop. The vegetarian range from Sainsburys does sound rather delicious, I shall certainly give them a go. I eat some quorn products my favourite is quorn cottage pie. My problem is lack of motivation & eating when I'm not really hungry, I'm a boredom eater. However, I've recently started to crochet & also I'm into colouring . It's finding things to do instead of eating. I'm determined not to give up without a fight

Hello Suzie

This is a great forum for advice and support 😊 I don't eat very much meat, but I do love to cook and trying out new recipes 😊😊😊

Good luck!

Hi Anna. I really admire people who can cook😊. I look at recipes but get put off if there is a great long list of ingredients especially if they are a bit obscure. I'm still finding my way around the forum but I'm confident it will help me win through

I read somewhere that cooking is a skill that needs to be learnt like any other 😊 Just start at the beginning 😊 A basic tomato sauce or tomato based vegetable soup would be perfect!

I have three children including one who was vegetarian from age 7 !! I either made two meals at every mealtime or we all ate lots of meat free meals 😊 I still make many neat free meals as they are often lower in calories 😊

I was lucky to be taught 'domestic science' by an older, quite traditional teacher, we were taught the 'science' of food, (in my opinion a VITAL subject for everyone.) and i've loved cookery ever since. I'm pleased to say all three of my children (now grown up) can also all cook. 😊😊😊

Good luck!

Hi Sue, I'm also vegetarian and doing the nhs 12 week programme. You can make lots of really nice salads that don't involve any cooking at all . Veggie soups (I like Convent Garden ones) are good and filling too. I try to avoid having too much cheese or nuts as they are high in calories. I will often have a hard boiled egg as a snack to make sure I get some protein. Baked potatoes and baked beans are also fairly low calorie-wise. I think planning lots of low calorie tasty meals and snacks that you know you can eat within your calorie limit helps so that you don't tempted to over indulge. Hope it goes well!

Hi Seuzan. I think you are right planning is very important. I am very much a list making sort of person & it would certainly benefit me to be more organised. The first thing I need to do is get my mind in the right place. Thanks for all the advice

Hi Suzie54,

Welcome to the forum, and it's great that you joined a while ago - hopefully you'll have already read our various Pinned posts (right-hand-side of the homepage) but just incase you've not seen the Welcome Newbie post (which Moreless has put together), here is a link to it:

Hi, I have found this forum very helpful. I am 62 and have managed to lose 2st7lbs since August, been a bit stuck sine Xmas with my weight going up and down by 3lb. Now getting back to it I hope, as I really need to lose another stone. I use the Monday weigh in to help keep me on track, and find people on here very encouraging when I am stuck or losing motivation.

Good luck, you will do it.

Hi. Thats a fantastic achievement, very well done. I don't know about you but I find that once I can establish some sort of routine things tend to fall into place, but once something like Xmas gets in the way or anything that breaks the routine I find it very hard to get back on plan . I shall be joining you all for the Monday weigh in, fingers crossed it might be a loss even a small one would be good. I think this forum is a great find for me

Hi Sue, I will be 61 in April, I am a veggie and I am also called Sue!

I have found loads of great, health veggie recipes online. I must admit that I do make a lot of curries with quorn pieces or just veggies in curry sauce and chilli with quorn mince as I can make loads and freeze it in portions. Shepherds pie with quorn mince and a sweet potato top is also pretty yummy.

Loads of help on this forum and always lots of great answers to any questions.

Hi Sue.😊 Thank you for your reply. Your food ideas sound great & I think I am definately give them a go. I love sweet potato & using it as topping is a great idea. My birthday is in September & I will be 62. I'm on holiday in 11 weeks & would like to have lost at least a stone. I'm still feeling positive about achieving that goal.

This forum is great & I feel more positive & motivated than I have in a long time
