Needed to warm up the kitchen today as the North Wind was blowing in straight through the extractor fan! So - made some tasty Allbran Muffins which worked out at around 150cals each (recipe makes 8), and they can be frozen.

180g Allbran

1/2pint milk

1 egg

1tblspn sunflower oil

1tblspn muscavado or brown sugar

1 Apple peeled cored and diced

1 tblspn raisins

1 tspn Cinnamon

pinch of salt

Heat oven to 180 c. Warm milk in microwave for 2 mins and pour over Allbran in a bowl, stir well. Beat up egg, add this and all the other ingredients and stir well. Spoon mixture into 8 servings and cook in a muffin tin for about 20mins. Cool a little and remove from tin.

Now the hard bit - only eat one! Make a satisfying breakfast or snack and handy for a lunchbox.

Not a good choice its cakes again when losing or maintain weight cakes shouldn't be in a healthy diet.

Hi Lisa,

Most of us in this community are following the NHS 12 week plan, which does not make any food out of bounds, and it is a lifestyle plan. It also does not restrict the number of calories in any one meal, people can eat up to and including their daily allocation.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but I would like to remind you of the Community Guidelines which are to be supportive to posters. You could give constructive comments, but I have seen 2 of your comments so far and they are actually quite unsupportive and unsubstantiated.

There is a delicious recipe for Banana Bran Cake in week 7 of the 12 week plan, and cake can of course be included as part of a healthy eating plan.

Here is a link to the downloadable pages if you'd like to take a look at the plan:

nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...

If you have any criticisms of it, then you could always post a separate post, and substantiate your viewpoints, or even contact the NHS directly about the eating plan - but being negative to a poster's perfectly healthy cake recipe does not fit well with the Community Guidelines.

I am happy to give you a link to the Community Guidelines if you can't find them, and I will remove/delete any comments that upset any of our community members.

Lowcal :-)

Oh Lisa, I successfully finished the 12 weeks plan mid last year and by eating that sort of treat I could go through it and carry on. I am still the same slimmer weight I had reached and I now know how to control what I eat and how much of it. I have solved my health problems and have not created new ones.

It does work Lisa, treat yourself now and again, and you will be the better for it. Just compensate on your calories with an extra dose of veges !

If you are unhappy by restrictions, you may want to give up, and that will not do will it?

in reply to nhs2015

I am not unhappy far from unhappy got more energy and sleep much better and feel lots better since I stopped junk of all kind so your wrong. If your happy doing that and it works for you then great but most tell you that eating junk again after a weight loss can make you pill it all back on

You have clearly found a diet that has worked for you Lisa and I'm very pleased for you. Some people find it better to ditch all sweet stuff (which I do most of the time) but for some allowing themselves a little portion helps them stick to overall healthy eating. DartmoorDumplings muffin sound as though it has more nutrients than most cakes and 150 cals isn't going to blow her daily allowance. Describing what has worked well for you in case someone else might like to try it is good but unconstructive criticism isn't helpful.

I'll definitely try that recipe, sounds delicious! Not a lot of sugar, and allbran and apple, great combination for a well balanced muffin :)

Mmmmmm, will do it tomorrow

Sound delish !! I think I might try this but substitute all the bran for rolled oats with bran and used Stevia instead of the brown sugar.

I find the occasional healthy treat spurs you on with your diet so it is great you can freeze them.

Thanks for sharing !

Hi DD,

Just what I needed 😃, I've put the recipe in my book and I'm going to make them later today and freeze 7 !! Lol

I don't have any oil would it make a difference not to add it ? I just use fry-light.

Thank you

😇

You could try a mashed banana instead of the oil, so they are not too crumbly perhaps? It is great fun experimenting with what works and sometimes what doesn't! (If not nice - put it out for the birds - don't eat anything not really delicious, a waste of precious calories).

in reply to DartmoorDumpling

Oh I think my dog Calvin will eat them all if I put them out for the birds !! Lol

I'm not much of a cook but have been looking for a healthy cake and I'm sure they will be fab 😃 What about if I melted a bit of flora ( hubby's) and adjusted the cals ???

Anyway I having a go I'll let you know 🤔
