Hi Everyone,

The Fab 5’er Team is reduced in numbers today, as myself (Lowcal), Prin and Suzybenj are all away galavanting. I am travelling to London, and had to get up very early (4am!), so that is why I am posting the thread at an unsociable time of day, but I would like to reassure you that Moreless will be up and about and the Weigh-in session will start from about 6.30 or 7am ish.

N.B. Moreless will also be posting the Afternoon/Evening Session thread, so make sure you look out for her name at midday!

I am very pleased to say that Lucca10 has agreed to be a temporary ‘Fab 5’er for a Day’ to help support Moreless, and Ruth_Canal_Runner will also be popping in briefly as and when she can.

I’ll kick off with my weigh-in results: Last Monday I was 13 stone 0.4 pound, and today I weigh: 12 stone 13.0 pounds, so I've lost 1.4 pound this week. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me on this journey to the 12’s, as you really helped keep me motivated and focused on my goal. My aim whilst away on my London break is to stay in the 12’s. Hence I anticipate I might gain a little, but hopefully not too much! Hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy some walking and sight-seeing.

Romantic Valentine News:

Trafford1 – or ‘T1’ as we affectionately call her, is Getting Married Today!!!!! (day after Valentine’s Day). Congratulations T1!!!! Wishing you and your fiancé a wonderful Wedding Day I am sure you will be looking beautiful in your Wedding dress, and hope you’re having an amazing and wonderful day.

Thanks to Ruth_Canal_Runner for our weekly stats:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 125.

Total overall weight lost: 124.9 pounds (56.65 kilos).

Total people who lost weight: 77 (152.7 pounds lost) (69.26 kilos).

Total people who gained weight: 16 (27.8 pounds gained) (12.6 kilos).

Total people who maintained their weight: 20.

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 7.

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 5.

Note for Newbies:

If you are joining this weigh-in group thread for the first time today, then welcome. Just introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you feel comfortable to do so) and your initial weight loss goals – setting yourself mini-goals leading to your ultimate weight loss goal is particularly helpful. You could also make a note of your body measurements – sometimes the scales stick at a particular weight, but there can be body measurement changes which are very motivating. It’s not all about the scales afterall – it’s how you feel in yourself.

You can always refer to previous weigh-in threads if you want to see what other people typically post (just click on my profile, Lowcal, and you’ll be able to see a list of all previous posts which are all clearly dated). Also, if you’ve not already seen it, then take a moment to read the ‘Welcome Newbie’ pack which is a Pinned post (situated on right hand side of homepage) which has been collated by Fab 5’er Moreless.

****N.B. The Afternoon/Evening Session will be posted at approx midday by Moreless – so please look out for her name.******

Wishing you all a great weigh-in! I will look forward to reading everyone’s posts when I get back later this week - I won’t be back on the forum till Friday.

Wishing everyone a great week, and an enjoyable weigh-in.

Hi everyone,

I'm off on my travels now, but Moreless and the other Fab 5'ers available today will be here at about 6.30am or 7am ish, so feel free to add your weigh-ins when you want, and you'll get a reply once the Morning weigh-in is officially open.

But please be patient with the team today, as they are running on reduced capacity, although I have to say the weigh-in is in excellent hands and I know they'll look after you! :-)

Enjoy your weigh-ins.

Lowcal :-)

Woohoo you're in the 12's! :)

I weighed in at home at my heaviest of 146.4 last Thursday and this morning I was 143.5 so 2.9 kg's lost.

Considering my weight, that loss for my first week is not startling but it's so good to be back in the saddle and eating healthy :)

Best of luck to everyone else for their weigh in!

That's brilliant stuff, a loss in the face of adversity - wtg! Personally I'm still very, very heavy but my loss is slow each week. We'll get there, don't you dare belittle anything mister, EVERY loss is to be celebrated, we're heading in the right direction, that's the thing to focus on! :-D

I can't tell you how happy I am that you've finally got into those 12's Lowcal. For all the effort and patience you've shown, that reward should have been yours a long time ago! Enjoy them to the full, even if they don't survive your well-deserved mini break, because they'll always be there for the taking again :)

Wishing you a fab romantic interlude ;)

Trafford, my friend, I hope you and Mr T have the type of day that fairytales are made of - you so deserve it :)

PS I'm saving my weigh-in til this afternoon's thread, in the hope of a bigger loss. What are my chances, do you reckon? :D

Depends - are you planning on wrapping yourself in cling-film and spending the morning in one of those steam boxes ;-)

I weighed 82.3kg last week & weigh 82.1kg today, so a loss of 0.2kg. I ate junk food on several days of last week. Maybe that is the reason I haven't lost weight that much. Anyway, this week I'll try to be more careful.

Started measuring hip & waist this week. Hip = 102cm & Waist = 106cm.

Enjoy London, Lowcal!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to arbitdude

I expect your loss may have been more without the junk food arbitdude, but you still had a loss and that's to be celebrated! :)

I'm sure that if you're a wee bit more discerning with your food choices this week, then you'll see a greater loss :)

Great idea to take your measurements, as they can be really cheering on days when the scales aren't playing ball :)

Good morning!

Great news on your weight loss achievement. I am pleased you have reached this goal. It is surprising how far you end up walking in London! Lots of places are relatively close by to walk to rather than always getting the tube or bus - you will get in lots of walking which will help with a maintain or a loss. Though when all is said and done, just have a great time.

I am pleased to announce a maintain this week. I was 11st 11 last week and the same today. I did not have a particularly good week in terms of calorie counting and Friday (out with a friend at Ask Italian), Sat (tea at the local fish and chip shop though I chose grilled salmon rather than battered fish and the portion of chips were thankfully small) and Sun (unexpected treat of Sunday lunch out with a portion of cake later) all means I was expecting a gain. So, as I said, pleased with a maintain which was probably helped by walking into town yesterday and halfway back home rather than taking the bus.....

I am back at work this week so hopefully back into a routine which will equate to a loss this week.

Good luck everyone!

PS - forgot to mention the wine! 😁

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to Alisonayb

Oh wow Alison, you have done well! So many meals out and still maintaining shows how well you're coping with healthy choices! I take my hat off to you! :)

Alisonayb profile image
Alisonayb in reply to moreless

Well, I didn't have cake on Friday, though others who shall remain nameless did. I did not feel particularly deprived about it either so that's good.

Must admit though, I nearly didn't bother getting on the scales!

Thanks for the encouragement. It is very welcome.

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to Alisonayb

Never shy away from the scales Alison, they are our friend. They tell us when things have been going well and they warn us when things aren't going as well. In either case, they help us on our journey.

Keep up the good work :)

Congratulations to those who have lost weight this. I have been aiming at 10,000 steps a day and have averaged 9412 steps this week. It has certainly helped with weight loss. I have lost 1 lb this week and am really pleased. Having got into the 13's I am now aiming for 13 stone 7lb. So about 5lb to go. I can do this.

A friend needs to lower her cholesterol and with me trying to lose weight we have agreed to give up cake, biscuits, puddings and chocolate for lent. Last night we took fruit to our group meeting and just watched others eat doughnuts and cookies! I am sure this has helped weight loss too.

Have a good week everyone.

To be fair it is easier for me because I have to keep my wheat and lactose intake fairly low and watch how much preservatives I have else I get bad stomach pains. Really to have the naughties I need to make my own so if I don't bake I can't eat!! My down fall is homemade wheat free bread when freshly cooked. Once it's cool I have to slice it and freeze it!

Morning low cal, such fab news you are now on n the 12s, now onto the 11s eh!

A surprise for me 10st 4lb, a loss of 1/4lb, I thought it was more as yesterday said 1lb loss, we all know how odd our bodies are!

As a maintainer very happy, and now wondering if a plus to the maca root, is hair growing faster, and continued weight losses ( after I hit 10st 5lb, I thought maybe it would stop), and my stable tum.

I rarely get a variance of 2lb in a week, my stomach /digestion has returned to its pre menopause state, so nothing wrong elsewhere.

Hi! I'm a newbie and my weight this morning is 74.5kgs. I want to get to 69kgs but have struggled to get below 74kgs for about a year now. Every time I have a good meal I put on 2kgs! Going to try 1400 calories a day as recommended as most other diets I have tried don't give more than 1200 so here goes!

in reply to Sharon_Keys

Morning Sharon and welcome to the forum and weigh in thread :-) Have you seen the 'Welcome' thread that is 'pinned' to the left of the home page. Lots of useful ideas in there if you are just starting.

Sticking to 1400 calories sounds like a good idea. I think most people struggle going as low as 1200, and I know that a lot of people on here (myself included) have been very successful having more calories than they imagined.

Have a good week and don't forget to post lots on the forum to get support :-)

Woop woop Lowcal you made it safely into the 12's!! Have a great time in London.

I am happy to report that I am back into my revised maintenance zone of 53-55kg. I lost 0.9kg this week now 54. 6kg.

As I said last week I aim to be at the bottom of the range by Good Friday when I fly to Mauritius so this week has started me off in the right direction to meet that goal.

I will be very happy if I manage to maintain during the coming week as I am visiting dear friends in Devon from Wednesday to Saturday.

My friends husband is a foodie and cooks the most amazing food and his idea of portion control doesn't match mine! He loves it when people enjoy his food and I love him dearly so it is going to be hard to leave anything on my plate. Much wine is also likely to be consumed. ..

However coastal and Dartmoor walks are also on the cards so with a few low calorie days before I go and I hope to report still being in the 54's next week.

Have a great week everyone and hoping T1 has the most fabulous wedding day today.

in reply to 2bFabnfit

Morning 2bFabnfit :-) Well done getting back into your ideal maintenance zone. I'm hoping to be there very soon myself ! Sounds like you have a challenge this week, but with plenty of opportunity to exercise off all those excess calories from the lovely food ! There was snow up on Dartmoor at the weekend - whether it is still there by Wednesday I don't know - but finally we have been forecast a bit of clearer weather down here in Devon this week, so have a good trip away :-)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to 2bFabnfit

Well done 2b, it looks as if you have a lovely, if slightly challenging week ahead of you. Good luck with your portion control, but above all, have a smashing time with your friends :)

Sounds lovely!

You know, if they know about your weight loss journey you could challenge your friend to producing at least one meal that is no more than x number of calories and see what he comes up with. I am sure it would be delicious!

But anyway, I think it is surprising how many calories you burn doing lots of walking so just relax and have a great time with good friends.

Hey everyone

Well done low cal! finally in the 12 stone range :-) that must be a great feeling

Seems many people have done quite well this week - so good progress

Well I have gained 2lbs this week! I am not surprised though, because I didn't stick to my goal of writing things down & chocolate was slowly becoming a permanent part of my mouth.

Last week I decided to go to an endocrine doctor wondering if I might have any hormone imbalance that might be hindering my weight loss.

As soon as I told the doctor my problem, his response was: 'eat less, move more' - I told him the things I was eating so he changed his response to 'you have fat genes'

I told him me and my mum are the fattest in the family and my mum only got fat after childbirth - so he went back to his original response of 'eat less, move more'

After seeing the disappointed look on my face he sent me for a blood test, to check my thyroid, insulin and cortisol levels.

The tests came back showing I was in the normal range and he told me if I want to lose weight I should go to Somalia.

He then suggested a diet where Breakfast is cheese and fruit & Lunch & Dinner were both meat & veg.

He also prescribed me vitamin D and some pills called Glucophage XR which I think is used by people with diabetes (which I don't have). So I don't think I will be taking those - this consultation cost me £100 (and that was me paying 30% with rest covered by Company insurance)

So I think I need to change my mindset lol if I can waste so much money for no reason then I should not complain that each fitness class is £8 & should just do it, also if I can go to work and spend 10hrs bored then I can also spend 2-3hrs/week doing exercise (which I find dull even if it's a class)

So today I am all packed and ready to go to a body pump class at 5pm in Sheraton - funnily they've just brought this Company in called Lesmills, lesmills.com/

I actually laughed out loud when I saw their website - super toned men & women and I just had this image of everyone in the class covered in oil, flexing, groaning, beating they chests and me in the background, like homer simpson, timing how long my fat had been jiggling

Oh well, wish me luck - ah this post is too long! lol

in reply to gracie1985

Hi gracie :-) Sounds like you had an 'interesting' consultation at the doctors !! :-)

Sorry to hear about the weight gain this week - but it sounds like you know what has caused it. I think recording things really helps, especially if you are either starting out or just going through a bit of a difficult patch - as it really makes you realise quite how many excess calories you might be consuming - but also what healthy swaps you could make for the naughty treats.

Anyway, hope you have a good week this week and we'll be interested to hear whether those exercise classes are really full of oiled toned bodies, or just lots of wobbly normal people like us :-)

gracie1985 profile image
gracie1985 in reply to

I went to the body pump class! proud of myself for making it. No overly toned & sinewy men/women - just normal gym guys, a few average girls and a Tunisian lady instructor with big boobs held firmly with a good bra.

And she was good because she provided alternatives for harder moves :-)

in reply to gracie1985

Well done for going, gracie :-) It's really difficult going to a new class for the first time and not knowing what to expect !

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to gracie1985

Yaaay Gracie, well done you! It just goes to show how wrong our over-active imaginations can be! :)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to gracie1985

Lol Gracie, this post is not too long at all! It' perfect! :)

I'm so sorry that you had to pay £100 to a quack, for him to tell you that there's not going to be a magic pill that'll "cure" you and lead to instant skinniness!

I'm afraid you're in the same boat as the rest of us ;)

My advice is to stop eating sugary foods, because they're addictive and will scupper your weight loss plans every time. Try eating a higher percentage cocoa chocolate and see if that satisfies your cravings.

Is there any form of exercise that you enjoy? What about walking? Instead of classes with oiled and rippling bodies, what about zumba, or some other form of dancing. How about taking a friend and playing badminton? Unless you find something that you enjoy, you're never going to keep it up!

Put this gain behind you and start afresh. You can do this AND without boredom and resignation! :)

2bFabnfit profile image
2bFabnfit in reply to gracie1985

It is never a bad thing to rule out endocrine issues. Now you know that it isn't a problem you have, you can set your sights on increasing your exercise and being mindful about eating healthily.

Seems that is what your appointment has achieved although your Dr sounds dreadful!

Let us know how your gym experience goes.

Good luck!

you can do les mills at home for a 14 day trial online - I like the body balance class :)

the doctor sounds like a bit of an idiot to be honest just saying eat less move more - that's not exactly nutritional advice - I mean I could happily eat less and move more and gain weight!

I think the key (which I often have to remind myself) is that your mind has to accept its a slow process which takes time and effort to re-condition your mind (sort of like leaving a cult lol) and to not get upset when your not skinny after months of hard work :( its going to take many more months - I got upset at the wknd for not being able to fit into my fat jeans (well they were my fat jeans when I was skinny so a size 14) we will get there! x

Gonti profile image
Gonti10 kg in reply to gracie1985

Really interesting post - thanks for including so much detail - I have been wondering what how those consultations feel.

There are definitely worse things to sepnd money on than body pump - once you learn the techniques if you want to you keep going/paying or you do weights on your own. (Lidl have a special offer on weights this week)

Gonti profile image
Gonti10 kg in reply to Gonti

By the way - I worked in Somalia during the 1992 famine and that was an idiotic and unhelpful remark for your Quack to make. For the rest at least he didn't fake a condition for you which he could then charge you to treat. You should be able to monitor thyroid and glucose for free from your GP?

gracie1985 profile image
gracie1985 in reply to Gonti

Hey Gonti

Thanks for the reply - he actually made up that I was insulin resistant so they would give me the Glucophage XR -

I'm working abroad as an expat so can't expect much from the medical system

I guess even though there are a lot of free fitness videos on youtube and popsugar, I still feel like I am unable to motivate myself to do it :-(

Hi all,

A bit fed up this morning to weigh in at 18st 10 lbs, that's a gain of 0.5 lbs. I seem to have been around this weight for months now and am really struggling to kick start the weight loss after a really good first few months..

The exercise is great, i've done loads this week, its the fact that within any given week, one bad day seems to be enough to really impact the weight loss......

I suppose if it was easy then I wouldn't have been overweight in the first place...:-0

Well done to those who lost weight this week, a good example to motivate me for next week....] must do better...

in reply to

Morning health-kick :-) Sounds like you are feeling a bit down at the moment ? I think that your point about one day impacting weight loss is interesting. I think it probably does show up on the scales, but realistically its not going to be a gain of fat, but more likely just water retention from a big meal.

Sounds like you are doing really well on the exercise front anyway, and just need to get your head back into the food side of things. Are you calorie counting at the moment and/or recording what you are eating. That might help to motivate you to have a good week ?

Good luck for this week anyway :-)

in reply to

Thanks lucca10, its actually a really good point about the calorie counting, as I haven't really been monitoring it as closely as before, I wonder if the calories have sneaked above my limit.

I'll count again this week and see how this helps..

Thanks for the support

in reply to

It's funny how you can 'forget' the odd extra mouthful if you don't record things - I often do !!

WeightWarrior profile image

Great point lucca, same with me, the balance is delicate, I have to write it all down and make sure...even 100 cals a day is easy to "drink" in a few extra cups of milky tea, for example. I drank more tea when I had that horrible germ and forgot to write it down - allowing 20 cals a cup because of milk and it soon mounts up!

Sorry to hear you have had a gain. Please don't be too despondent about it. Changing your routine a little bit might help. I think that sometimes our bodies get used to what we are doing and settle down so any weight loss is lower. How about changing one thing this week to wake it up and tell it not to be so complacent? See if that works.

All the best for the week ahead.

in reply to Alisonayb

Hi Alisonayb

thats another good idea, what sort of thing do you mean? exercise or diet change?

Alisonayb profile image
Alisonayb in reply to

I think any change works whether it is food or excercise. For example, if you usually have cereal for breakfast every day, one day have some toast instead. Or if you don't normally have breakfast, have it one day. Obviously count the calories as part of your daily allowance. If you always do one type of exercise eg the gym, take a class in something else or change your routine - try a different exercise eg if you would not normally use the rowing machine, try it out one week, or the bike etc. If you have an office bound job, take a walk at lunchtime. It doesn't have to be a long one. Even 10 mins would probably help. Or walk up the stairs at least once a week.

I think sometimes just changing our routine a little bit in each week can sometimes make the difference. It doesn't really matter what it is.

I agree with lucca, calorie counting is a good idea - and writing down what you eat. It helps keep thinks in perspective. Also, if you count it you can still have your chocolate, or cake ... or whatever grabs your fancy!

Good luck for the week ahead. Let us know how you get on.

Hi everyone

I missed last week's weigh in as I was in hospital over the weekend. I've got a gallbladder that is misbehaving!! I did try writing a post on my phone but it wouldn't save.

Here are my statistics:

Week 1 = 129kg

Week 2 = 126kg

Week 3 = 125kg

Week 4 = 124.5kg

Week 5 =123.5kg

Week 6 =122.4 (the week I missed)

Current week = 121.4kg

I am getting a bit giddy as I am close to my original mini goal which was to lose 9kg by the end of February!

Hope everyone has safe journeys today. I love half term because the roads are so much quieter. Hope you all have a good week x

in reply to trickoflight

Well done trickoflight :-) You are so close to that mini goal now - hurray !! Hope the hospital visit wasn't too bad ?

The roads will be lovely and quiet here today as well - but my living room will be a little more noisy than usual ;-)

Good luck for this week :-)

Good morning! Week 2 - and I have stayed the same weight today. That is okay, and I understand why. Instead of our usual walk along the canal yesterday, hubby surprised me with a Valentine's Day lunch out at a really nice vegetarian restaurant (Greens in Didsbury for any of you who know it). It was a fabulous meal and I enjoyed and appreciated every mouthful knowing it wouldn't send me off track. So total loss of 6lbs in 2 weeks and I feel fantastic! 🍏

Plan this week: keep a food diary, evening meals for the week sorted, move more

If you're looking to keep a food diary try out a free app called myfitnesspal which helps to calculate nutrition and calories. It really helped me in the weightloss phase.

It is so easy to use and even has a barcode scanner.

Hi

Just starting today :) I have health issues and the meds I am on encourage weight gain. I have absorbency issues around some vits and minerals and have been eating a normal diet (not a naughty diet) for the last year to try and get the body systems back to some kind of normal. However, I need to do this, will do this and have done it several times before :) I have the vit and mineral supplements ready.

Today I start my plan to lose at least 2 stone. I have always been heavy but I have now achieved new heights of heaviness. Current mahoosive weight is 15 stone and 3.4lb.

I am going to try the 2 minute all out, 1 minute rest then repeat 7 times exercise on my treadmill. This can apparently encourage your body to keep burning fat for upto 8 hours post exercise. We shall see, some days I may be too unwell to do this but I will do it at any available time I can.

So 2 stone initial loss, over 6 months. which is a bit optimistic as in the past it's taken a year to shift one and a half stone. But I want to try :)

:)

in reply to TheHud

Morning TheHud and welcome to the forum and weigh in thread :-)

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you due to the added difficulty of the health issues regarding your weight loss - so well done for getting the motivation to tackle it, despite everything :-)

The high intensity style of exercise is supposed to be a really good fat burner, and like you say can keep doing some good for hours after exercise. I think you can even shorten the exercise time even more - say 30 seconds high intensity and then rest, if it helps on days that you aren't feeling so good.

Good luck for the week :-)

I'm sorry to hear that you have some medical issues, but it sounds as if you're completely on top of them and have a course of action that's going to see you through.

I'm a great believer in goals, short, or long term as they make us try just that bit harder. It doesn't matter if we don't quite achieve them within the specified time frame, because we know we've tried our best :)

Wishing you all the best as you start your journey.

Morning All

Fantastic news to finally get into the 12's Lowcal, well done you. Your dedication and perseverance have paid off.

I've lost 2 lb this week but it really means that I have just managed to return to my previous weight as I gained 2 lb last week. I seem to have lost some focus since returning from holiday in January. I also seem to be having some problems logging on to the site with my tablet at home in the evening, which is very frustrating but I know that you have all experienced technical issues at some point.

I'm not going to set myself any particular goals this week except to try and re-discover my determination and focus. Have a good week everyone.

Well done local for breaking through the 13 stones barrier!

I am pleased with myself today I hit 17 stones so a weekly loss of 3lbs for me and hitting my mini target two weeks ahead of schedule! I was concerned, as we stayed for 3 nights at my daughter in laws whilst babysitting and she had left ready meals for us and also treated us to dinner last night at a local restaurant where i did indulge in a couple of beers and some wine ;-)

I have decided to set myself a slightly harder target now to reach 16 st 7lbs by the end of the month, so that is in just two weeks. We are still house moving, all of our stuff is now in the new house, which resembles a scene from the TV programmes Hoarders! So a lot of sorting out to do, DIY and gardening which should take care of the exercise side, our cooker will not be connected until Thursday, so lots of salad things to eat and only the microwave to heat things up!

Internet will not be on until next week so limited contact from now on.

Good luck to everyone this week John :-)

in reply to kantara71

Good morning John - you sound quite excited - a lot going on! It must feel good to know that even when life gets busy and you let yourself have a treat, the weight does still come off. Wishing you luck with your new goal - aim high (or low in this case) - but be kind to yourself if you don't quite make it - 7lbs in 2 weeks is pretty ambitious! I hope you've got some good salad recipes to hand and a strong back for all that DIY and unpacking :)

Good morning! Congrats and commiserations everyone - Woohoo Lowcal is finally in the 12s! And it's Trafford1's wedding today. Exciting :)

I've lost 2lbs this week - down to 10st0. My second week of pushing towards my new goal range of 9st8-9st11 hasn't gone as smoothly as the first. Wine, chocolate and going over my calories have featured to various extents - yet I've still lost 2lbs. Also I only ran once and cycled once. So I'm wondering if I just don't need to be so hard on myself. I might raise my calorie allowance to 1600 (from 1400) and focus on doing 2 runs and 2 cycle days this week. Today will be cycle day no 1 :)

in reply to

Hi Ruth :-) Considering you don't think your week has gone very smoothly, you've lost 2lbs which is excellent considering you are pretty much at your target weight area - well done !!

Well done on your loss and drop down into the 12's. Have fun in London. I was 20.6 last week, and am 20.4 today, so a loss of 2lb. Slow and steady is how I'm doing this.. Going to keep on doing more of the same. Good luck all with your week x

in reply to ange1960

Good morning ange1960 - 2lbs loss is ace - we're recommended to lose 1-2lbs/week for sustainable weight loss - so slow and steady is definitely the way to go. Do you have a next goal in mind? I find it feels less slow if you have achievable goal weights to aim for along the way. Wishing lots more slow and steady weeks ahead :)

ange1960 profile image
ange1960 in reply to

Thanks Ruth, my intial target is 2 stone, breaking it down into manageable chunks otherwise the numbers just look daunting. Its more about how I feel, energy and health wise for me. So each pound lost counts, and learning to keep it off, while living life and eating well is important too.

We've probably all got 'thin' friends who seem to eat and drink what they want and not put weight on, but I've come to see that they may have a 'blow out' on a Friday night, but they eat sensibly the rest of the week. Mostly they exercise too! something my health issues don't make it easy for me to do, but I have discovered Youtube chair exercise video's :)

It's about not writing off the whole week if I do go overboard one day. Draw a line and back to healthy eating rather than the mind set of 'I've blown it now for this week and carrying on for another few days eating the wrong things'. I'm not after a quick fix. I hope to see a real change in my size and weight by January 2017.

in reply to ange1960

I'm sure you've read around the various stories on here - people like Sueper and Trafford1 made a great difference to their weight last year, and Moreless has achieved great things just since September. It all adds up. Myself - I lost 2 stone last year, with the support of this amazing forum, and it has stayed off. You're absolutely right it's just about keeping going. Everyone's human, we all have our blow-outs, and through learning about healthy eating, we all learn that it's about balance not deprivation. Slow and steady is definitely the right approach. Wishing you luck for your first 2 stone goal :)

Hi Lowcal

Hope you have a nice day in London.

My weights very variable at the moment and so I'm not going to put a figure down. Not sure if my scales are very good as they can say different weights in a matter of hours! They are WW ones as well.

At the moment I'm concentrating on getting into good habits and losing some bad ones rather than my weight.

Well done on getting into the 12s.

in reply to Corrine1

Hi Corinne1 - my scales are just cheap digital ones from Argos and I find them very reliable - maybe it's time to treat yourself to a new set of scales? Also, sometimes it's not the scales but the battery - do your WW scales just need a little TLC? But you're right there's lots more to look at than just weight. Hope you're feeling the difference from your new habits and managing to dispatch some of the bad ones too. Happy Monday :)

Well done to you and to all other losers or maintainers this week, and to all who have tried their best. I've lost 1 lb today and that's ok. I've had a couple of functions with not a lot of choice, but having smaller portions and drinking water has helped. Total now 8lb loss as I start week 4. I'm noticing I am getting in - and out- of my clothes easier and might brave the dreaded tape measure this week. Main plus is I'm beginning to feel more energetic and happier in myself.

my goal this week is to increase my exercise. I need also to add a bit more variety to my menu choices, so cook books her I come! X

in reply to

Good morning determined2016 - what an excellent week you've had - 'a couple of functions' - you sound very positive about how you dealt with them - and now you know these things can be managed as part of a weight loss journey. Hopefully they'll seem less daunting next time. Congratulations on losing 1lb this week and feeling your clothes are getting loose - you might make friends again with the tape measure if it starts showing you some inch-loss - so I hope you'll brave a re-measure soon. In the meantime - yay recipe books - a lot to be found online - but also I just like going to the library - try before you buy. They tend to have a good choice there. Let us know if you find anything tasty :)

Hi everyone,

What a beautiful day for gallivanting. May your trains run on time, your meetings be brief and your days interestin.

Whoeee Lowcal you smashed the twelves !!! am delighted for you.

As for me I only lost 100g last week. From 88.6 kgs to 88.5kgs

I have learnt a lot this week. Worryingly I lost control of eating and of my appetite on Monday and Tuesday so I then tried a twenty four hour fast. This seemed to work like a reboot as I ate normally the rest of the week -no cravings or temptations. It also gave me masses of energy, I have no idea why.

For the next four weeks I am going to try to eat within the ten hour window at least five times in the week, and I am going to fast on Wednesdays. I am not really losing weight on my current plan and this feels like fresh thinking.

in reply to Gonti

Hi Gonti :-) Sounds like you've done really well not to let the difficulties on Monday and Tuesday get in the way of the rest of the week !

Hey. Congratulations on making it into the 12s! I know how much you've been wanting to do that. Last week I was 15,13 and this week I am 15,12 so 1lb loss. I'm quite happy with that because without my phone it's been harder than normal to track calories, and I was also anticipating only a small loss after last week's big one. Hoping for 15,10 next Monday. 3 runs and some proper calorie counting ought to help.

in reply to Garfield_123

Hi Garfield :-) Congratulations on your 1lb loss, especially as you've not been able to track the calories so well. It just goes to show that after a while you start to 'learn' what you can/can't eat - which is really helpful for when you no longer want to count calories quite so often. Good luck for the week and all that exercise you've got planned ! :-)

Congrats on your loss and happy travels!

I'm very disappointed today. I maintained my weight which feels like a kick after all my efforts this week. I felt so good about the whole process, ate well (have got to have a good hard look at that) and exercised as much as could fit in (will have to try to fit more in) so the scales really do feel like a naughty step this morning.

I'm not giving up but I'm quite disheartened at the moment. Must try harder.

in reply to CatRuns

Hi catmay :-) It's such a shame when the scales don't reflect the effort that we have put in !! It might just be something like water retention which is masking a weight loss, if you've had a good week ?

Otherwise you might just have to check on what you are eating, to make sure it is as good as you feel it is ? Perhaps because you've been increasing your running you have been having lightly larger portions if your appetite has increased? Have you also been checking your measurements as they might show a decrease even if the scales don't ?

Anyway, I hope you have a good week this week and you are rewarded by something on the scales ?

Thank you Lucca. You are absolutely right, I'm going to have a check of the food much more carefully. I need some digital food scales I think.

Lowcal, congratulations on getting into the 12s, what an achievement. Hope you all have a great day in London. And what lovely news that Trafford1 is getting married, wishing her and fiancé all the best.

I must be doing something right in terms of activity/food balance because I'm still on a gentle downward trend, from 52.4 kilos to 52.1 today, a loss of 300g. This in spite of eating out with friends on Thursday, and sinking half a bottle of Prosecco at the weekend to celebrate hubbie's birthday plus Valentine's Day. Part of his present was an afternoon tea for two, so I'll have to go easy on the cakes when that day comes!

Morning kuddlykathy (great name !) :-) Congratulations on making the first step on joining the forum and the weigh in thread. Hopefully you will find lots of support and useful information. Have you seen the 'Welcome' thread that is 'pinned' to the side of the home page ?

Good luck with the week ahead - are you following the NHS 12 week plan or planning on weight loss another way ? :-)

Morning helenb :-) Congratulations on maintaining your weight despite having a few days away ! Just shows that you've managed to balance everything out over the week and I'm sure that once you get back into your routine this week you will see a quick loss.

Congrats to all who have lost weight this week. Particularly to Lowcal for making it into the 12s, well done!

I seem to have lost my way a bit at the moment. I'm back to sofa loafing, unhealthy snacking and eating way too much. I really don't want to write down that I have gained again this week, it seems ridiculous, I was so thrilled to hit the top of my healthy BMI range, and I've not only blown it but gained again. Argh. The crazy thing is, I'm waking up with a stomach complaining that it doesn't like what I'm doing to it, and come the evening, there I am overeating again.

I absolutely have to get back on track, I've committed to being a size 14 and got rid of my old jeans so I must get rid of the pounds I just regained so I don't split my jeans.

if you see a mojo out there looking lost can you tell it I need it and please come back?!

Rainshine, don't despair. We all have times like this, when it just feels as though the life has drained out of you and everything seems too much effort. Take some time to read today's posts and for a real boost, read trafford1's story - she never fails to inspire and motivate.

You're just suffering from, I guess, what most maintainers suffer. You feel as if you've come to the end of your journey, when in fact, you're just starting it. You're now living life as a slim person. Enjoy it to the max, it's such a privileged position to be in. We'd all love to be there, so can you please save a space for us? ;)

I aim to have a catchup later, I've been so busy over the last few weeks I just haven't had chance to post much!

Start weight: 12st 2.2lb

Week 2: 11st 10.6lb

Week 3: 11st 9.4lb

Week 4: 11st 12.2lb

Week 5: 11st 11lb

Week 6: 11st 7.8 lb

That's a loss of 3.2 lbs - happy happy!

I've made a pledge to run 3 x 8km runs a week to help my marathon training. I'm up to 12 mile runs again and running my local half next weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

Still trying to break the 168lb mark to get me back into the 11's which I haven't seen in about 7 years! Good luck this week everyone :)

I have only lost 0.5lb this week, feeling very annoyed with myself as I had lost 1.5lb last Friday but put 1lb back on, I'm the same now as I was 3 weeks ago with some fluctuations over the weeks not helped by a week's holiday. Well done, LC! Into the 12s at last!

I've had a very slovenly week, intentionally, eating more cals than recommended so that my bod doesn't go into starvation mode after 3 months of calorie counting.

This week I've eaten all kinds of nonsense, at least 2,500 cals every day (including a fair amount of booze and naughties), half a big apple pie and a large fish, chips and curry sauce (eaten in two goes). On two days I ate and drank over 3,500 cals.

Start: 123 kg (271lbs, 19st5, BMI 37.9), at beginning of October

Ultimate aim: somewhere starting with an 8

Last week: 106.7 kg (235lbs, 16st11, BMI 32.7)

This week: 106.8 kg (no real change)

BMI: 32.7

I've consumed more my total energy expenditure for the week but stayed about the same weight. Not bad, but time to get back on track.

Break over. Back on my head. ☺

in reply to flavourfiend

Wow flavourfiend - I think you've done amazingly well not to put loads on after all that food this week ! But it's a great idea having a bit of a break and shaking things up a bit. It gives you a bit of a change psychologically as well as keeping your body fooled into not going into a 'plateau'. Hope you manage to get back into it again this week and good luck :-)

Well done Lowcal on weight loss and hitting the 12's

Not a good week for me. Put on 0.7kg so now weigh 90.5kg. Less walking last week and some awful snacking and a curry over the weekend so not surprised. Good news is that I can now get my interview suit skirt done up.

Back to the office for me after working from home for two week so at least I get the walk to the station again.

Have a lovely time in London Lowcal and friends.

Lowcal congratulations on your breaking into the 12s and I hope you will at least maintain for this week. Very happy for you. And Congrats on this Administrator badge! Next week it might become a "Over-Arching Super-Admin Of the Forum" badge :).

This morning I was 160 lbs 72.6kg. So I have lost 1.5 pounds compared to last week 161 .5 lbs! I am really happy with this loss as I had lost 4 pounds last week and was expecting either a gain or a maintain!! I do think weighing every day did help me be very careful indeed! On Monday 1st February I said to Lowcal I would monitor my weight for two weeks in order to see if using the average over a week was a more efftive recording method. So be ready for a storm of numbers:

On Monday 1 Feb I was weighing 75.3kg : 165.3 lbs and today 72.6kg i.e. 160 lbs. That's a recorded loss of 5.3 pounds over 2 weeks, with the traditional method.

Now with the average method:

Monday 1 Feb 165.3 pounds

Tuesday 2 Feb166.25 pounds

Wednesday 3 Feb 165 pounds

Thursday 4 Feb 164.75 pounds.

Friday 5 Feb 164 lbs pounds.

Saturday 6 Feb 163 pounds.

Sunday 7 Feb stone 163 pounds.

Average weight for week 1: 164.47

Monday 8 Feb 161.5 pounds.

Tuesday 9 Feb 162.25 pounds

Wednesday 10 Feb 163 pounds.

Thursday 11 Feb 162.75 pounds.

Friday 12 Feb 163.25 pounds.

Saturday 13 Feb161.5 pounds.

Sunday 14 Feb 160 pounds.

Average for week 2 = 162.03

Loss on average over two weeks : 163.92 -162.03 = 2.44 only!!

Aargh! Either I got my numbers wrong, either I am missing something. To be fair you can tell that in second week my weight was often higher than last week's. Only in last two/three days did I do something to try and reduce my weight further. So the numbers make sense.

I think on balance I will stick to taking into account and recording only my Monday weigh in, but I will carry on weighing myself every day only to try and keep myself on my toes. I think this will help me maintain when I do reach this level of maintaining. Just making the average calculations was a major hassle lol so I think that way I will have best of both methods :).

This week my highlight was bumping into a neighbour down the road who asked me "Are the neighbour I used to speak to?" When I confirmed it was me she was so apologetic, saying " Sorry to ask but... you've gone half your size!!!" Haha that really made my day. So far since September 2nd I have lost 36lbs. This week I also cannot wear two more pairs of trousers that were fitting me until now. And I pushed myself for the "Around the world" challenge to try and maintain my 10km per day, I have not calculated but I really hope I have!

After what happened to Moreless this week, and on her suggestions I bought padded cycling shorts on Amazon. I like them but I am unsure if they help me stay longer or not cos I still find them a bit itchy. Maybe I am not wearing them well, I don't know....

And I ate more delicious recipes from Hairy Dieters book, I am officially in love with this book, I believe I will not need any more recipe book after that. Seriously. Can't believe how good and versatile these recipes are. Kudos to the authors!!

One more thing : I went to my GP for an issue unrelated to my weight loss. I mentioned how I lost more than 2.5 stones since September. Thinking she'd be pleased. She actually said it was too quick and she was really unphased. I was thinking "what?". This is my second underwhelming encounter with a GP since my weight loss journey and I am really not happy about that. Last time I went there my BMI was 32, now today it is at 25.7 and I don't get even an acknowledgement??!! Never mind!! I got all the support I need from this lovely forum but really I was a bit shocked by it all. I am glad I came here after my first appointment in September where you guys all cheered me up and advised me to see a senior nurse instead of a GP. I will do that if only in order for my new weight to now be recorded correctly in my medical notes, but GPs don't seem to be your favourite point of call if you need help and encouragement in your weight loss journey! Well, at least not in my surgery!

Oh dear what a long post sorry folks I hope everyone is keeping well, good wishes to everyone!

N.

Hello Nussaybah, you haven't disappointed me today, you've written another delightful book and cheered me up no end :)

I do love this weekly insight into your life and your world :)

First of all, well done for your loss, you continue to do a brilliant job. The weighing seems an awful lot of hard work and gives you a worse number! I think you're very wise to stick to daily weighing and monday reckoning. That's what I do and it's more than satisfactory. As long as there's a general downward trend, what more could you ask? :)

How fantastic that your neighbour didn't recognise you. What an ego boost!

:)

Sorry to hear that your cycling shorts are itchy, have you washed them in fabric conditioner?

Unfortunately Liz can't calculate everybody's averages yet, because so many people still haven't posted their K's for all of last week! As soon as she gets all the results, she'll let us know. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your 10K average :)

I've heard so much about the Hairy Dieters cookbook, that I'm thinking I need to get it myself :)

I think that some GP's need to go back to school for retraining in interpersonal skills! If only they were all like the ones on that programme "GP's behind closed doors"! How come they're so quick to condemn and so slow to praise? :o You definitely seem to get a more positive and human response from the practice nurses.

Not to worry, my friend, we're all behind you 100% and we think you're amazing! :)

Grrrr @ GP! How on earth is it "too quick"?!!!!!!!!!!!! I make it about 19 weeks since the end of sept...1 to 2 pounds per week is the recommendation! Ooohhhhhh I'd have torn strips off her if she'd said that to me! Well done Nussy on your loss, but also on keeping your patience with your GP...something she probably doesn't do very well (keeping her patients...see what I did there lol).

Absolutely loving the pun wow you're really inspired in your messages :).

Thanks for the support, yes I didn't have my stats in mind as I was a bit poorly (hence the visit there to start with!) but I knew I was within guidelines and it got me thinking "these guys will never be happy with me then!".

Thanks again for everything WW, I still have my little candle on my desk I saw it today it made me smile :).

in reply to Nussaybah

I still find I get more from an appointment with a nurse practitioner than a GP - I think it's to do with their different time pressures. I got a very brief but satisfying expression of shock when I informed the nurse at my new surgery that I'd lost weight. I don't understand kgs really but they had me down as 80 something and when she went to weigh me I came out at 60 something. She said 'oh you have lost a lot of weight' - but then that was it! She then told me my statistical likeliness of heart disease, diabetes etc, but didn't give me any sense of how my reduced weight /new healthy lifestyle might benefit me in those areas. If I didn't have this forum I could have ended up feeling actively discouraged! I guess we have to find the satisfaction in ourselves :)

Indeed. It is a good thing we are not doing this for our GPs/health practitioners, as we would seriously be disappointed!

But, Ruth, our stats woman, not understanding kgs? tut tut :) That made me smile. I am really struggling with the pounds and stones myself. They mean absolutely nothing to me but before I post every Monday I use a converter. And I try to record my weight in pounds to see if it starts to make sense. The only thing I like with the pounds if that you need to lose more than 2 of them to lose a whole kilo. SO I have found it more motivational to say "I have lost 1.5 pounds" than to say I have lost 0.75 kilo :). For this reason I report in pounds :). But for me kgs make more sense funnily enough!

(and yes if you were 80 something and then 60 something then you did lose a lot! Like nearly 3 stones unless you were 81 and now 69kg but that would still be nearly 2 stones lost! SO I can see why she'd be surprised! But yes I agree that we might have wanted more from these professionals, but here we are...)

in reply to Nussaybah

To be honest I just enter the kgs into a conversion on google and translate them into lbs without really thinking it all through! I do notice that you always give your loss in both kgs & lbs - very useful from my point of view, but also from yours as you explain - bigger numbers are definitely more motivating when it comes to measuring weight loss! It's also good to really try and visualise this loss so we completely understand what we've done, so maybe keeping track in both kgs and lbs is a pretty smart idea...

I've only today finally braved looking at my 'before' photos and they're very revealing. I've lost 2st4lbs since I started weighing myself - but doing a conversion just now, it seems the docs had weighed me at a slightly higher weight than I understood myself to be - perhaps my starting weight was even higher than I realised :( Unless it was doctors' scales syndrome - where they add half a stone on - although they seem pretty accurate now...

Hello

I am new to this forum. I have never previously joined a weight loss programme or forum or any group as although I have never been happy with my weight, I have always felt too embarrassed to admit it publicly. I have usually lost weight in the past in a totally unhealthy way (intentionally had food poisoning to stop eating for a week or two) so it has always been immediate but with that the weight came back on at the same speed.

I weighed myself yesterday and have finally plucked up the courage to join a forum.

I did an online BMI check this morning and was shocked. I am overweight. I weighed 10.2 & 1/2 stone and am 2.5 stone overweight for my height. I am also wearing baggy clothes for the first time since my pregnancy 4 years ago.

My biggest downfall is eating way too fast and chocolate. I don't eat excessive amounts, maybe half a bar a day but its everyday. I eat on a side plate to try to keep my portions low and I try to not snack (favourite is salty popcorn)

I have done the Atkins diet but eventually craved rice and have seen many diets where ingredients aren't appealing to me, such as lentils. So I have struggled to find a diet I enjoy hence resorting to a protein and veg diet. I have never really known how to count calories as i cook most of my meals (and avoid processed food) and never know how much calorie i have in my ingredients. I dont use oil and very minimal salt.

I feel very down as I have resorted to wearing black everytime I go out and have a few special events coming up (some close friends hen, wedding and milestone birthdays) that I am dreading dressing up for.

I am still not quite sure yet how I am going to go about losing weight but hope to get inspiration from this forum.

If you are still reading this, thank you for letting me share.

Hi and welcome Yarbey :)

I'm delighted that you've plucked up the courage to join us and very bravely shared your starting weight, which I know was a big thing for you :)

Now is the time to stop thinking about "dieting" and finding a way of eating that is healthy and sustainable. Most of the people on this forum start off with the NHS 12 week plan, which is a simple step-by-step introduction to healthy eating. If you go to our newbie pack, there's a link to the plan, plus heaps of other useful information

Hi everyone

I must be the only dieter that ha d forgotten what she weighed last week!! (and being digitally challenged I can't find last week's thread to check either) I have been hovering in the 11 stone 6 category for so long I am getting bored!Today I am 11.6.4 so I think I have put on .2....

I ate a curry on Saturday night so I didn't expect to lose; and wine is proving my downfall. I get home from work so shattered (I am 60 year sold and recovering from a broken ankle an d work hit me so badly went I went back) I just reach for a glass- or two. Although I count it (though I suspect I must be going over the calorie limit for the day too often, as I have been stuck for so long) , it's not good is it.

Yours a little despondently

Tubby cat and still tubby!!!

PS well done all you others who have achieved a weight loss- fantastic!- and I know how the rest feel after what feels like a week of (mostly) self denial!!!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to tubbycat

Don't be despondent Tubbycat! Don't worry about not knowing what your weight last week was, because our marvellous Ruth will be on the ball :)

Maybe you could try pledging to not have any wine for just one day, on Dave's pledge thread. It may be easier for you to pledge for one day at a time and then see how the weight goes.

You could try easing yourself into a lovely bubble bath, with some soothing music and scented candles as an alternative way of relaxing.

There are many things you can try, so don't give up on yourself, you can do this :)

I had a lovely long soak in the tub yesterday, had forgotten how nice it actually is to just sit and soak! I've been hearing good things about epsom salts baths, so I am going to try a few of these per week to see if it helps the leg to draw out the fluid or SOMEthing lol. I think one has to be careful as I am sure I read that it can lower blood pressure, so I went very easy, a 250ml measuring cup dissolved in a deep bath and only when hubby and son were home in the evening, in case of some bizarre dizziness or something when trying to get out, due to a possible change in blood pressure. I think there is also caution against people with high blood pressure using epsom salts baths, but I am not sure why, I just seem to remember reading that somewhere too. I really should make more notes as I read things - my memory is rubbish! Anyway, it's supposed to be good for muscle aches etc and just great at drawing out toxins - time will tell whether it helps and I can't wait to see...in the meantime, the bath soaks will be lovely if last night is anything to go by!

I have to write everything down in my diary or I'd be lost - I can totally relate to what you are saying lol! I actually did have a bit of confusion over the Christmas/New Year target weight I'd set if I remember rightly and I had to go right back through my diary to figure out what was what because I couldn't remember! Although don't quote me on any of this, cos I've slept since then! :-P

I am dong the stats today, and I have looked up your weight for last week (8th February) and you were exactly the same as your weight at this Monday's weigh-in (15th February), so you've actually maintained your weight - which in our book is much better than a gain, so Congratulations!

WeightWarrior profile image
WeightWarrior in reply to amz786

I personally find it easy to lose track of things, so I definitely advocate writing this stuff down in your diary or some similar notebook every Monday. For example, this week I wrote:

END OF WEEK 24

WEIGHT: "???!!!" (still not comfy revealing that lol)

MINUS 2, 1/4 POUNDS (ie amount lost/gained that week)

TOTAL LOST: 2 STONE, 9 POUNDS (total since date I started my journey)

Right at the beginning of my new diary for 2016, I wrote what my original weight was and the actual start date of my journey, just so I didn't have to pull out my old diary to find the info, because I just seem to have trouble remembering all the dates, facts and figures lol.

I find it nice to flick back through the Mondays to see how things have gone, and it's a bit of a motivator for me too. I can see the Christmas "blip", what happens when I go off track, and also I can see that I do get weeks where there simply is no explanation for a small gain, or staying still, even though I am doing everything right. Then I see the following week with a loss for that week, plus the TOTAL loss since I started written underneath that, and think "ok, it's not so bad, I'm doing well here, the overall trend is downwards". It's been a big help to me tbh.

Ok, I'm waffling on a bit...I'll shush now lol! Well done on your loss and good luck for more!

Hi there, Just come across this posting. I would love to join. I live in Scotland and feel cut off from many people as I am disabled and can't walk very far. I need to lose around 5 stone. I currently weight 17 stone exactly. I am 5 feet 10 inches so would be happy with 12 stone. Will use this for motivation and help. Hope to hear from someone soon. Can keep a note of my weight weekly or daily on here so that will help. Not been weighing myself regularly recently but the time has come to get up and start excerising or I will die sitting here. I have nerve damage in my feet and left leg and arthiritis as a result of pernicious anemia. I also have asthma and diabetes so I need all the help I can get. Welcome and good luck! If you are physically able to exercise then that's really brilliant, but if you aren't and will cause yourself more pain by pushing things too far, then don't worry. I still have a LOT to lose but I am losing weight, very slowly and steadily, just by controlling my calorie intake and keeping a food diary. I have arthritis in my spine and currently a bit of a leg issue with my right leg and foot swelling up (had to get Cosyfeet boots for when I do have to go out, as my "normal" footwear doesn't fit at the moment - hoping losing weight will help me get back into my other footwear and reduce swelling!). The hope for me is that as I get lighter movement will become easier again as there'll be less pressure on my joints. So, for now I'm focusing mainly on getting some weight off and physically, I'm just playing things by ear a bit.

I guess I'm just trying to reassure you that you don't have to go mad with exercise and hurt yourself to lose weight, although obviously whatever exercise you can do within your physical boundaries for your conditions is great to help the process along!

Hello

Well done Lowcal and thanks to everyone who organises and maintains these threads. Ruthcanalrunners stats are particularly nice!

I am 12st 2 today. That's a no change from the last time I weighed. I did well at avoiding sugar last week but less good at exercise and portion size.

(Background: I am 2lbs over my recommended BMI and am concerned not to put back on all the weight I lost in the summer. My waist is also too wide for my health so I'd like to move the weight into muscle and away from my internal organs!)

I'm finding it difficult to get exercise opportunities out of the house so my new plan is to go back to the Claudia Schiffer videos. I can exercise after work while dinner is cooking. It's not ideal because it doesn't include any aerobic but it'll be an improvement.

I find dinner portion size particularly hard because my husband doesn't get back from work until 9pm some nights. I can't wait that long for dinner so I end up either eating a non-ideal unhealthy snack and then dinner later or eating dinner in two halves (at 6.30pm and then when he gets back). I should just tell him I can't eat dinner at the same time. But it's really hard to watch someone eat the food you've lovingly cooked for them and just sit there doing nothing and trying not to stare at his food!

Looking forward to reading the rest of the string later today. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Gail xx

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone

A maintain is always better than a gain Gail, so well done you :)

It's difficult when your partner returns so late, but eating at that time of night isn't a good thing. I would be inclined to eat earlier and just sit and chat to hubby while he eats later, but that's me personally :)

Is there any chance you could get out for a walk in your lunch break, or park further away and walk, use the stairs and get out for walks at the weekend? Go to the gym after work and cook and freeze your meals at the weekend. A lot of success on weight loss journeys is about planning, organisation and being selfish for a change.

Wishing you lots of luck with trying to sort everything out :)

in reply to moreless

Thanks for your advice - especially to be more selfish! A free pass to be more selfish - hooray! Perhaps I come across as too negative. I do walk a fair bit in the course of my normal daily routine (30-45 minutes a day) and always use the stairs. I don't have a car. I plan my meal content well and use the freezer a lot. I eat a lot of fruit and veggies and cook 6/7ths of my meals from scratch. I regard myself as successful on the whole at managing my weight in the context of other aims in my life. Ricardo's unhealthy dinner timing pisses me off from time to time and I guess I was just expressing that pissed offness.

Afternoon all.

A disappointing week for me. Lost my way with the healthy eating. Had a real sweet craving so it's not surprising I have gained 0.7kg. This almost takes me back to my starting weight of 5weeks ago.

Today the sun is shining and I've been for a long walk to up the kms. My target is to do 10kms at least per day this week.

It's not the exercise that's the problem it's eating too much rubbish and too much if it!

Target is to stick to healthy eating plan for this week using the nhs plan as a tool.

Evening! Not a great week for me and have gained. I did well on the 5:2 days, sticking to the limit, but over-ate to compensate on the others! Was kind of expected what with valentines etc, but still managed to avoid refined sugar & booze. Also learnt that I need some new scales: final weight today was around 65.7kg (first one was 68, then 67!). So that's a 0.2kg gain. I just picked the lowest hehe. Good luck for this coming week everyone!! Slow & steady!! 😎

moreless profile image

That would be my concern about the 5:2 diet. Unless you have a very good stop button, the temptation would always to be to overeat. Lets hope that as time goes on, you recognise your limits :)

Thanks I think that I may have to buy a jug and kitchen scales that do metric as mine has only lbs and ounces and jug doesn't have metric measures on it

Joe - I use something called a 'tala dry measures cone' - you can buy it in Robert Dyas. If you don't want to have to replace your kitchen scales, then that might help - it's great for measuring things like rice, oats, lentils etc. For liquids I tend to guess a bit more though - using a half pint glass, tablespoons, teaspoons etc. I do think it's possible to be accurate without turning your kitchen into a science lab... although it's nice to have things how you want them... if you think it's time for an upgrade! :)

Thanks for sharing with us Suzanne. It may help to break your 2st goal down into smaller chunks eg 1/2 stone, or first goal to be into the 11's etc.

Sueper is running an Easter Bunny Challenge, where we pledge our goals/targets for Easter, so you may like to join that for motivation :)

Monday the 8th February Ihad 93kg in the morning....

Monday the 15th I had 94kg in the morning...

My life is just going a little rough and I need chocolate, potatoes and starch,

will be normal after next week again....

Nobody needs to feel sorry for me.... all seems to be ok. ;-)

Hi flower-arranger, I'm so sorry that your life is going a little rough at the moment, although from your comments, I'm going to assume that things are sorting themselves out and will be completely back to normal soon :)

Maybe you could try a different relaxation technique from our preferred carb fest ;) Go for a walk, do an exercise class, go shopping, have a bubble bath, have a pamper session etc. These all make you feel better, but have the added bonus of not adding calories! :)

Hope everything sorts itself out soon and that you'll be seeing a loss on the scales next monday :)

Hi I joined on Monday but have only just seen this (still finding my feet) I weighed in and was 12st6.5 lb my bmi was 26.5 and waist was 36 inch I was shocked the BMI tracker said I was 1to 2 stone overweight so I'm going for a stone 1st as I don't want to put too much pressure on my self also I'm over 50 and don't want to look haggard lol. Good luck everybody ... see you Monday Morning.

Morning all!

Been meaning to get in on this post all week, but have had a bit of a busy week! I did weigh Monday morning. I wanted to make sure I posted though as I feel it helps me keep on track!

This week I am weighing in at 13st 1lb exactly! So a loss of 1lb from last week. Not as much as I wanted but still! :D I am aiming for a 2lb loss as I so desperately want to be back in the 12st club! Speaking of which, well done Lowcal! How awesome you are finally down in the 12's! I'm so pleased for you! :D hopefully I'll be joining you there soon! Enjoy your trip! :)

My cake, chocolate and sweet detox for lent is going well so far. Haven't had any cravings. I do feel better in myself for doing this, and was hoping it would help boost the weight loss. Only another 4 weeks or so to go and I kind of don't want it to end. I feel like I will go on a binge when I have free range again! :/

Haven't had time for any exercise this week so far due to plans but intend to so something every day for the rest of the week now. I want to see 12st something on the scales Monday! :D fingers crossed!

Have a good week everyone!

Sophie :)

Well done for your 1lb weight loss Sophie, even if it wasn't quite as much as you were hoping for. I'm sure the 12's will be yours next week :)

Good going with your Lent pledge. If you're not having cravings and are feeling so much better in yourself, why would you want to go back to eating sugar when Lent is over? It makes sense to me, to keep them out of your diet :)

Good luck with your exercise plans this week and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you entering the 12's next monday :)

Hi Lowcal :-) :-) :-) I am so very pleased for you as you can imagine with your weight loss results as I am sure many of us here are. You have done it Lowcal :-) you finally made it into those illusive 12's and many congratulations from me on your success. Well done on losing 1.4 lbs this week and I hope that you have enjoyed your time away with plenty of site seeing.

Thank you so much for mentioning me in your post and for all your well wishes :-) that was beautiful :-) everything went really well and I felt like a true princess on the day. I have posted two photo's which you can take a look at. I will have another at a later date. I haven't weighed in for a while as I have taken some time off just to enjoy myself and all of the celebrations, but I will be getting back to business real soon so nothing to report at this time. I have had the most wonderful week as I am sure you have and can't wait to catch up.

Hi everyone,

Only just finished reading through the Morning Session of the Monday weigh-in, and found everyone's posts really inspiring! Wow. Thanks to everyone for your kind words on my getting into the 12's. I really appreciate all the comments and support.

Thanks to the Fab 5'ers team for coping so well - Moreless and Ruth - fantastic! Especially thanks to Lucca10 (fantastic Fab 5'er for the day) - really appreciated your help in standing in and doing such an excellent job!

I'm looking forward to reading the Afternoon/Evening Session now! (as well as looking out for T1's Wedding photos! too).

Lowcal :-)

Not sure if my post went up on Monday so I thought I would pop in again with todays news. I did manage to loose 1.8 lbs last week but the really great news is I felt strong enough to go back to running today and completed run2 of week 5 on the NHS Couch to 5k programme. I graduated 18 months ago but have had health and emotional problems since. Onwards and upwards.

Hi Segrie,

I've noticed that you've added this post to last week's thread - i.e. you're in the 15th February thread instead of the most recent one (22nd February), so I will copy and paste your reply to the correct thread - so you can be included in this week's stats. Congratulations on losing 1.8 pounds - that is fantastic! You're also making excellent progress re: the Couch to 5k - really great!

That's fantastic news Segrie, I'm so pleased for you :)

This is the dawn of the new strong you and although we normally say onwards and downwards, I think it's appropriate in your case to say onwards and upwards.

Wishing you continued success :)
