Meltdown...

So have been attempting to change my life style to a healthier one for about a month now.

I've not touched a fizzy drink since January 1st (Woo!) but the rest has not quite gone to plan....

I have got healthier, less snacking but some of my meal choices haven't been the right ones. Completely my fault I know, and I realise that I am the only one with the power to change it. A few recent experiences have helped me clean up my act though.

The weekend just gone, I decided to travel into town to look for a new outfit, for a 60th birthday dinner. What a disaster!! What should have been a fun and girly afternoon ended in me having a complete meltdown in Marks and Spencers changing rooms. I'm talking full sobbing, tears and an ugly cry face to boot. NOTHING I tried on would fit. I went into an array of shops, trying things on in every single one and not one thing made me feel comfortable or would fit properly. It annihilated my confidence and left me feeling bigger than ever, even though I had lost weight!

So I started up a MyFitnessPal account, I have honestly kept track of the calories I am eating and drinking. I didn't realise how many calories I was using by drinking certain drinks!! I've cut out sweet snacks, no biscuits at morning tea break, and no sugar in my coffee. Instead I have opted for yoghurts, fruit and vegetable sticks. Really tasty alternatives that keep me fuller too!

I'm finding writing about it is really helping, hence why I'm back on here sharing my life upheaval with like minded strangers.

I'm off to my first EVER fitness class at 8pm, its Strictly Come Dancing themed so I should love it but I'm filled with an apprehensive sense of dread. I'll update you all on how (badly) it goes...

Hi KRML,

I can so relate to your meltdown. I stopped going to shops for clothes years ago, because of the effect it had on me. I have lost a lot of weight now, but I haven't rebuilt my confidence enough to enter the world of floor to ceiling mirrors, stick thin shop assistants and incomprehensible sizings.

I'm going to give you some links, to welcome you to the site and to give you some guidance, as you embark on this new life of yours :)

Go to your exercise class with an open mind and a positive attitude and you're bound to love it.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hi Moreless,

Thank you so much for the links. I'm desperate for any help I can get and will definitely take a look at all of these.

I'm nervous about the exercise class but will only get over the fear if I go, I'm going to take your advise and be positive even if every fibre of my being is inwardly screaming at the thought of exercising!

Best wishes!

My confidence disappeared in the communal changing rooms in Etam etc as a teenager - been buying blind ever since!! :/

The class sounds fun. Good luck

Welcome, your plan sounds super and I am sure will give you great results. Enjoy your class and let us know how it went, it sounds fun!

I still get panicky in m&s. Years of nothing fitting. Youve made a start and everyone will support you. Remember that diets make you fat. What we need to do is slowlychange our eating habits swopping the Rubbish for healthier options and most importantly be gentle to yourself.

Myfitnesspal is such a great little tool.

Did you know you can even add recipes from a website and it will calculate the calories for you?

And I am sorry to hear about your clothes experience. people underestimate the bravado we bigger people have to show all day to hide the fact that we are very sad with ourselves on the inside.

You can do this and there are lost of people here to help :)
