A reminder to myself

I just came back in from a planned six-mile walk. I wore a backpack that I'd filled with 13 kg of assorted weights, padded out with a fleece, to try and simulate how I was a few months ago.

I've been doing the six miles without problems recently, but today I only managed three miles before I called quits. The knees and hips didn't like it one little bit.

Wow! I don't want to put those kilos back on again. I hope I can keep remembering how horrible it feels to carry all that extra weight around. Now for the next 13!!

Hi Flavourfiend,

That's the kind of exercise that they do in "The Biggest Loser" isn't it - those kind of strenous things when they lift the equivalent weights they've lost over time. I remember you posted a thread about that programme some time ago, and that was interesting reading.

Well done for doing that walk today, and I am sure it has caused you to think about the weight you've lost - definitely great that you're no longer literally carrying that weight - and you can put the extra weight you stuffed into your backpack away, and feel enlightened in so many ways.

I hope you have a great weekend, and that it's a good one.

Oh, right! I watched it when it first was on ages ago, I seem to remember (that article was about the hazards of losing weight too fast, wasn't it?).

I'd forgotten that they'd done the same kind of exercise. I thought I was being spontaneous and original. Oh, boo...

But, I can tell you, it definitely made a huge impression on me.

Now, where did I put that slice of chocolate cake... ☺

Have a good one, yerself!

Hi Flavourfiend,

You were definitely being spontaneous and very creative in thinking of your task, but maybe subconsciously you remembered the idea originally from The Biggest Loser. There's always the problem of knowing which came first - chicken or egg. Doesn't really matter anyway. I don't think so anyway - the thing was you found the experience to be motivating and powerful, which are both really great!

Yes, that article was about the hazards of losing weight too fast. I enjoyed reading it - I have enjoyed watching the programme though - it hasn't put me off watching more of them either, but I don't think there's a new series on yet for a while.

Lol @ your comment about the chocolate cake - hopefully you have sliced it up and frozen the pieces to make it more difficult to overeat it. :-)

I love weekends, so very happy!

Lowcal :-)

Thanks, suzybenj. I couldn't believe how hard it was to walk with all that extra weight. It quite opened my eyes. Obviously you notice it immediately, unlike the way you gradually pack on the lard in the first place!

Good idea. Reminds us what a strain we were putting on our knees, hips, back, not to mention our hearts. All that extra weight had to have its own blood supply and took our energy every single minute of our lives. Well done you for getting rid of it!

Thanks. And you're so right about the energy thing. Everything is easier, and I no longer fall asleep in the first 10 mins of the movie I've been wanting to stay up to watch. I'm sleeping better at the right time, too.

It's brilliant when you realise all the advantages and things that have got better, some of them without you even realising it. Here's to us getting fitter and healthier🍻👍

This is a REALLY good idea! I am tempted to put the weight I've lost into a backpack and just try getting up the stairs with it on my back, that should be enough to remind me why I started doing all this! I need something to keep me on track at the moment, this is great, thank you for posting!
