Hi everyone, I am new to this. I decided to join this forum and start the NHS 12 week weight loss plan in hope that I will be able to shake the extra weight I have gained over the past two years off me. I intend to start it tomorrow and go out for a jog. I have struggled in the past with diets and really hope this one works for me.

Welcome to the group and good luck with hitting your targets. I cannot really think of this as a "diet" as you are advised to eat lots of good food and in enough quantity to make sure you never feel hungry, so go for your jog and stock up with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables :-) Great members on here too so if you are ever feeling in need of info or motivation just ask - John

Thank you guys for the support. Went out for my first run today. I had previously started the NHS programme last year and used my treadmill rather than going outside to jog. I ended up just doing 20-30 minute jogs everyday rather than using the podcasts which didn't last very long. I was trying to lose weight for my wedding and ended up giving up in the end. I have been using my exercise bike since the beginning of January, this year, but it broke last week so I decided to try this again and join the forum this time round. Jogging outdoors was a scary experience for me as I had not felt confident enough to go out by myself in the past, but I did it today! My legs were like jelly afterwards though lol!

Oh well done Rachel!! :)

I know you've tried this before and I may be teaching my granny to suck eggs, but I'm going to give you some links to threads for you to have a look at :)

Well you have started with a bang, or rather a run. So well done. Hope you've managed to shop for all the right foods too. I am just about to go and hide all the things I shouldn't eat in my tin cupboard and at the bottom of the chest freezer! We shall overcome...our temptations(?)

Have a good day and week,

My husband and I cook from scratch every night which is a good thing. It's just snacking afterwards is the problem. I shall avoid temptation :)

You might find what we did accidentally today helps. We had a huge bowl of veg soup each (to empty the pressure cooker!). Then we had our veg heavy main course. At this point we were so full, we waited nearly 2 hours to have our fruit and custard/quark. By the time I had my coffee and a sweet rice cake (to replace a biscuit) It was nearly 11.00 pm. I'm not raiding the treats cupboard at that time of night because I'd rather go to bed and anyway I was full! So another challenge met. Serendipity?

That sounds great. I am actually making potato and leak soup tomorrow for dinner and as my husband doesn't like it I intend to use it for lunches. Unfortunately tonight's dinner was a frozen pizza. Our shopping list for next week is a lot healthier. We had bought the pizza a few weeks ago and decided that we should use it this week to save cooking. I am not big on frozen pizzas but it saved money as it was on offer. I am now feeling hungry and annoyed as it put me over my calorie limit for today. I was doing so well up until then.

We should swop partners. Mine is a huge leek & pot soup fan! I went wrong clearing the last remnants of things I bought for Christmas that were still lurking in the fridge. I don't think your pizza could be anything like as bad as my two salamis. In the end I worked out that I could fit 25g into my daily allowance. Bit of an eye opener because I used to have 100g as a portion. Still it was lovely on top of beans on toast and wonderful on halved and microwaved cherry tomatoes on toast. And at least I know what a portion looks like now. A quarter the size it used to be. Live and learn. I would just put your pizza down as a learning experience. You now know that however cheap they sell it it's too expensive kcal wise for you to have it. We are very fond of putting our own toppings onto a wrap or a pitta bread. That way you can manage it into your daily allowance way better. It's also great for using up the little odds and ends I always seem to have left after we've had sandwiches. They look quite a lot more spread over a "pizza" on top of tomato and under cheese. Really quick to make too. Hope tomorrow's eating options work out better for you.
