Advice on sweet cravings

I always crave something sweet in the evenings, and end up raiding the biscuit barrel or a yoghurt. Any tips for how to reduce/eliminate such cravings? Do I go cold turkey and cut out altogether by not buying them, do I try and reduce gradually, do I substitute for something else, any advice gratefully received!

I often craved sweet things especially straight after a main meal. I weaned myself off over several months and one of the things I did was wait an hour before my dessert, that really helped me crack it.

i save a treat to have in the evenings - a kit kat. Look forward to it all day :-)

I find dates or prunes are a really intense sweet hit - nibble just one as they are super sweet! I also love sweet potatoes as part of main meal - seems to help me not crave a pudding.

Hi,

I am having the same problem. I do blend frozen berries with a little milk or last night I had a few carrott stick.

I hope that helps.

I do the same as Lucca and Sueper. I allow a small treat after dinner, but make myself wait. It's often something like a couple of squares of dark choc, a few raisins and a herbal tea, or some chopped up strawberries, or a banana pancake, generally around the 100-150 cal mark. Knowing you're going to have something, however small, really helps.

By the way choose your herbal teas wisely as some are nicer than others. Yogi Liquorice tea is naturally sweet, and Twinings Buttermint is tasty too. You can also try things like the options hot chocolate sachets etc.

All the above but you could try sugar-free jelly if you don't mind the additives!

I cut out all sugars last summer, it was tough at first because I craved them, but after the first week or two, my cravings went and now I have no desire to eat sugary stuff at all.

For snacks I love fruit and nuts and also Nkd bars which are totally delicious.

Plain, sugar free (but full fat) yoghurt with a spoon of raw honey. Sweet and full of great bacteria and protein to keep you full all night. Add some berries if you like...

I like the Weight Watchers yogurts. They make a great tub of icecream if you throw them into the freezer. That slows me down. Quite low in kcal, although I never look at what they sweeten them with! How about grapes. Very sweet and take a while to eat. Some friends freeze them too. My latest fave is persimmon. They are really sweet. Them and grapes kept me off the chocolate last week, until the 6th temptation! Someone else was suggesting kiwi fruit. You could pretend it was an egg and eat it with an egg spoon, slowly. Another trick I try for those biscuity moments is to have melba toasts. They come in little packets of 6 inside the boxes. I top them with Greek yog/quark mixed with powdered sweetner and vanilla. Then top that with fruit. I did canned mandarin the other day. As I had some spare kcal, I melted 1 square of 70% dark choc and dribbled it over. Cut the toasts in half and had 12 bites. Another thing I do is a big fruit salad using fresh, and/or canned, and/or frozen fruits. Then I eat it with the fork from the fondue set, very slowly. If you are really tempted, try eating it with chopsticks! As you will have spotted, anything that slows me down seems to work.
