How much exercise should you do?

Hi All,

I'm trying to go the gym 5 times a week and burning between 500-850 calories a day.

My goal is to lose 2-2.5lb a week.

Is this enough?

Many thanks

Are you sticking to a calorie allowance based on your BMI? Otherwise you might find that exercising so much makes you eat more than your daily calorie needs. The body is very clever. You might end up eating too much but feeling very fit and get disheartened because the weight is t coming off. I can walk run everyday and still not lose weight of I'm eating more than I need not what I want! It's what you put in your mouth that determines weight loss. Exercise tones is makes us feel great and helps so long as it doesn't trick you into eating too much. Only my view but I know that for me I have to watch portion size and limit carbs no matter how much I run or workout. Good luck it's all good.

I am sticking to my calorie allowance. Currently having:

Breakfast 2 x Weetabix with 1 chopped banana

Lunch: Salad (+either chicken/turkey or tuna) low fat salad dressing & a piece of fruit

Tea: WW Meal or LowLow Meal.

Drinking about 3Lts of water a day and I'm writing EVERYTHING that goes past my lips in a food diary.

Have a target of 20 weeks to lose as much weight as possible as I go to Florida in June.

:-)

don't be too hard on yourself weight wise as if your doing all that exercise some fat will turn into muscle which is heavier

take some pics of u now so you can compare and take measurements of ur waist etc as you might lose inches but not so many lbs

2lb loss is big every week so aim for that but don't be discouraged if it ends up bein 1- 1.5 a week instead - its still a loss at the end of the day!

also make mini goals i.e. every 1st treat yourself to something (Im going to buy a new underwear set when I have lost 2st (i bought pjs for my 1st) so I can feel positive again)

You may want to use the free MyFitnessPal app to determine the daily calorie intake. It has over 2 million food items with nutrition info. If you are just writing down in a dairy you may not get the calorie info. Best approach would be to use myfitnesspal for determining daily calories and then use the NHS weekly worksheets to write manually everyday.

Sounds great. Enjoy Florida!!!!

I go to the gym 4 times a week and according to the machines I burn 1350 cals! I use the cross trainer for 40 mins on level 34, 40 mins walking uphill on the treadmill, and 20 mins on the rower. Then add in weights :) its about finding the right workout for you :) hope that helps!
