8 days dry!

I made it! Past one week. Past a night in pub. Past a night on the sofa at end of an exhausting week. Yay!

And if that makes me a prig...I'm a prig and I'm proud πŸ˜‰

Asics - I had 1 dry day last week and avoided having wine in the flat although I did have wine out on Saturday evening. You're definitely having an influence. Today I even bought some 'Shloer' - didn't know they still made it! Full of sugar though, but if it stops me turning to wine...

Congrats on your 8 dry days despite pub temptations and exhaustion. Happy to brag about my own small successes alongside you :)

I'm hoping to manage 2 dry days this week. Have done 1 so far...

Good luck keeping this going :)

Hey! Well done you on the dry day alongside the reduced intake! One day to.Go to tick that goal.😊

I like so much better for it today too.

Keep going!

Thank you for your good wishes. X

Well done. You are at least not a drunken prig. 7 days dry feels very sober. On my fourth dry month. I was challenged today by a reduced bottle of white burgundy but I walked away.

Woweeee! 4 months!!! I am in awe! Well done on turning your back on that burgundy.

Do you think you are dry for life or will you have the occasional?

in reply to asics

I hope to go back to having wine on occasion when I have lost some more stones from my body.

Well done asics! It's amazing how embedded alcohol is in social events, can be very hard to resist, and even more so when you're just choosing to not drink, as you are- that can make others, who are choosing to drink, uncomfortable, which can result in a bit ( or a lot) of heckling. Keep at it! πŸ˜€

Thank you! Quite a bit of heckling going on and some work colleagues unconvinced I can do it. This makes me more determined! 😊

Good for you asics. I've been dry- apart from half a glass of champagne for new year- since September, due to medication. If you say it's due to meds, no one heckles! Much easier! But my goodness I have some times when I really do miss it!

Well done on sticking with it rainshine. That is tough when you know you just can't.

When I gave up smoking (the last, successful time!) I changed my 'spiel'. Instead of saying 'no thanks I have just given up'...which left the door open to later after a few beers to say, ' oh go on then I will have one, i will try to give up again tomorrow ' ....I chose a day and from that day I just said 'no thanks, I don't smoke.' I am thinking of going the same way with booze...

I had a similar approach to smoking asics- much easier to stop than drinking, in terms of the social aspects, I think. I could still hang out with my smoker friends... Although interestingly there isn't a woman among them who still smokes, a couple of the chaps still do despite the fact that we have lost one of hem to cancer.

I'm not sure about being off booze permanently, but this extended break is really making me both consider it and be a wee bit scared of going back to it. I'm not sure I could handle the alcohol any more, and as for the calories! I'm finding weight loss tough enough without the booze!

It would be good if we could see the same sea change against drinking as we did smoking but I guess the smoking ban helped that one along didn't it? Sorry to hear about your friend. My husband and I gave up together but when he has had a drink and is in the 'right' company he will have a sneaky puff!

I never thought I could not smoke as I liked it too much. I lived a social ciggy with a cuppa or glass of wine and a really good chat. However i wouldn't dream of it now. So maybe one day the same will be true about booze for me. I certaily don't miss the feelings of remorse? Or regret in the morning... "did I really say that? Do that??! "

Fantastic 8 dry days. A pat on your back!

I was so tempted today to eat all these yummy cream cakes and bridge rolls and avoided everything single forbidden food. Yes we should all be proud that we kept ourselves back!

Well done bakersdozen!

That is a goal for me in the coming months, cut out the goodies!

It feels so nice to have something (anything!) under control.

Keep going! 😊

You are so right to stick to one thing at a time rather than throwing out goodies and drinking otherwise you will never succeed,.You are so sensible! Keep going!

It is a beautiful feeling I came home from a ceremony and I wow I actually did not cheat once. I am so proud. No more pain! At long last I have self control. No more comfort eating ad also I do not eat after 7
