Getting my head in gear..

Well all the legwarmers and fishnet gloves in the world wouldn't have saved my 80s diet plan yesterday. I had a horrendous run in with my mother yesterday ( she's " seriously " ill, needs house call from doctor etc. Needs cough mixture, cough sweets ,Vic vapour rub , tissues and fishermans friends pastilles, so I go up the chemist, and at 1 pm there it all sits unopened on the table. )

" yes, I AM going to take it in a minute • give me time • its been sat there three hours! • DONT KEEP ON ! • WHY ARE YOU SO BITTER AND MEAN ? ( this is her to me) ...and so on and so on..

Result : I dont go down all day, so end up not sticking to my plan.

It wasn't too disastrous, luckily I havnt got any fattening stuff in, so just gad cup a soups and crackers all day...

BUT - today, is a clean slate. I've just had an egg and toast for breakfast, and ignored the comments about how sick she is ( not!) and sailed past sweetly smiling ( it could've been a snarl :) ) saying - you'll be better later, we all feel rotten when we first get up

.If this post makes me sound like a total heel, sorry, but its very hard on times, and sadly I know that others on this forum have the same irritating lifestyle with their mothers...

Thanks for listening and good luck to us all today

Xxx

Ooh never heard of 80s diet plan but that was when I started to put on weight and I've been yo-yoing ever since 😬 know what you mean about your mum, mine doesn't live with me but she is hard work. Good thing is you're back on track today 😀

Well done you, you are not a heel. Just not playing her game. Foodwise yesterday not great but not down the binge route so you had control. Today is another day . Keep posting xx

Gillyflower is right, it sounds like a psychological 'game', a bad habit that needs to be broken if at all possible. I had a similar situation with my parents many years ago.

Have a Google of "Persecutor, rescuer, victim triangle" and see if you think this applies to your situation. Buy your mum the cough mixture etc she thinks she needs, but then leave it to her to decide what she wants to do with it, don't give her an opportunity to lose her temper with you (sounds like her 'pay-off').

Also have a look at "Mirroring" techniques in counselling. You can express sympathy without getting drawn in. Don't give people power over you.

Glad to hear your back on track with a good breakfast. Hope you can get some fresh air today as well.
