Hi,

Help!! i have been trying to lose weight since going to the hospital in August who advised me to lose weight to help us get pregnant. I've increased my exercise to make sure i am doing over 10,000 steps a day but i have only managed to lose 5.5 pound, i have been out this weekend for a meal and had some drinks only to find i have put on again. It seems to me no matter what i do i cant keep weight off.

i have only just come across this website so thought i would join and see what everyone else does to lose weight.

any advise would be gratefully received.

Hi there!

Oooh where to start - there are a lot of people out here and we've all got a slightly different way of going about it....

Common activities are....

Move more - sounds like you are on to that one - well done! Why not join the Kicking the kilometres thread - we all check in on Monday to log our exercise for the last week and set some kind of target for the week ahead. Go and take a look.

Join the weekly Monday weigh-in - go over there now, introduce yourself and then you'll be committed to doing so again next week!

Calorie counting - lots of us like using My Fitness Pal so that we can't kid ourselves what we are eating...!

Jump in and out of these chat rooms to benefit from the positive vibes, to keep you on track and to cheer and encourage everyone else. I'm still amazed at how generous people are with their time and encouragement - you NEED this in your life!

Plan what you are going to eat and fill the cupboards with healthy stuff, including making sure you have some calorie counted and restricted treats available for when the going gets tough.

Will that do to start with? Hope you'll join in!

How much have you got to lose? And what a great motivating reason to have to get healthier. I've seen your name too - is there a wedding in the air too?!

Good luck for a healthy week.

xx

Thank you for replying, i will check out the other sights you have mentioned.

I have at least two stone to lose so i would like at least 10 pounds by Christmas?

Yes its our wedding next year so hopefully i will be fitter and thinner by then. x

I'm trying to shake off 2 stones too. 1/2 a stone has gone in 4 weeks - so I'm properly underway. So nice now that clothes are a little looser and I'm looking to getting my new (old!) wardrobe - hopefully by Christmas.

10lbs sounds realistic. Most people seem to find, like me, that the first week you can lose quite a bit, but after that it settles out to 1lb a week on average (and that's when you really need everyone to cheer you on and keep you going!).

Good luck.

Hi Bride to be :)

Runningsoon has given you some fantastic advice, I don't know what else I can add :)

I notice from your post that you enjoy a drink ;) Sometimes alcohol can have a detrimental effect on weightloss. I'm no expert, but not only does it contain a lot of calories, but it can also weaken one's resolve to not overeat and can even make people get the munchies :)

There are others on this site that have given up alcohol for October, maybe it's something you could try and see how you get on.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your journey and the best of luck :)

Hi,

thank you for replying, to be honest that is going to be my next step to cut out the wine at weekends now too and see if that helps me shed the pounds.x

Try to stay positive. My weight loss is slow, between 3/4 to 2lb a week, have lost 9lb so far. I exercise daily & do a cardio dvd 2-3 times a week but can't seem to lose more.......just keep going!

defo watch what you eat as its like 70% food 30% exercise for weight loss (stats r prob a bit off) anyway its mostly ur food u need to sort - recording everything even when ur bad gives u a much better idea

think of it as a lifestyle change too not a diet as u don't want to ban foods or deprive yourself as that make u want them more

have u checked on the bmi calc how many calories u should be having?

you have two goals for the weight loss :)

planning your meals for the week really helps and not buying lots of junk, you will find out soon what foods/meals fill u up but have low cals :)

good luck! x

Great job on increasing your physical activity! It's always hard to start a fitness regimen, trust me, I've failed many times. It would, however, be even more helpful if you also monitor what you eat. I agree with hydrogirl about balancing your exercise with proper diet. A food diary would definitely come in handy. ;-) Good luck!
