I started a week ago, I'm 5ft 9 and almost 13stone so was equally horrified ;) i find this message board so motivating tho and there are some great tips from people. I've been good this week and not had chocolate bars for once, I've lost nearly 2 inches round my waist. Try to concentrate on measurements rather than weight to start with I find it more encouraging! Good luck :)

Wow - 2" from your waist in a week in fabulous!! Its so tricky to rethink your food intake. I love savoury foods and now that crisps have gone I am dreaming of the next alternative, possible pitta , salad and hummus which if I can wait long enough I can turn it into lunch!! This is only day 2 for me so food is on my mind a lot!! The chocolate bars I used to have(!) around 3pm its the low ebb part of the day. I have done what you said and measured my waist and put it on the fridge - so we will see how I go. Thanks for your good advice I will stick with it....!!

You will be fine and i found the form on the fridge has been great. My husband can see it too so i would be too embarassed to write down my unhealthy binges as he is healthy!! If u like celery that is delish with hummus. X

Hi Caroline I am 5ft 5 and now 11 stone 2lbs. I have been following the NHS 12 weekly plan and also doing the couch to 5k. I managed to run for 25 mins yesterday! I looked like I had just stepped out of the shower and my face was like a beetroot but I did it! I do find that exercise makes me hungry so I don't buy cakes biscuits etc but the thought of getting into a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear for ages keeps me going. For me that is the motivation. I also find running, well shuffling really helps my knees so good luck Ann xx

Hi Annmarie, thanks for the reply, I just can't run, I don't know why, I walk the dog and I find that people much older than me easily overtake! its a bit disheartening! I suffer from ME so some days are really difficult energy wise. Hey ho, I am slowly loosing it though. All the best for your couch to 5k, that is a great goal. I have a friend that started walk/jogging 2 years ago and then mini marathons and now 12k, she has lost 7 stone and is proof that it can be done! yey! all the best Carolinex

HI Anmarie,

I dont know how old you are but i am 53 an running isnt such a good idea if you are out of shape i was 13 stone but i am back to 18 plus and dieting with an injury . Going for a long walk is just as effective, so say the experts an its bad on your knees too you could also put undue strain on your heart , ignoor others its beter to be slower than have everyone pass your headstone! walking half an hour each day being moderatly carefull what you eat will have an effect and increase the walking speed and as the results start to happen get back to runing if you want later on . Obviously its your desision how you do it and well done you :-)
