Starting over

I joined with great gusto 4 weeks ago and I have not got past 4days ,I just keep falling back , no one at fault but me I just so lack discipline ,for health reasons I am desperate to loose 6stone .all I can do is start again so here goes ,I so hate failing and worse having to admit it .

Hi H. Do you know why you keep failing? Are you just being too strict on yourself? Small changes you can maintain for life are better than being really strict but giving up after a few days.

It isn't an easy journey do just take it one day and one lb at a time. You may have a few false starts but hopefully you will find a path you can stick to.

I love food use it when I am happy or sad ,food plays to big a part in my life ,I suddenly lost my husband of 49 years so struggling with so much emotion .weight is making me ill so I need to focus on it thank you

I know what you mean, I am an emotional eater too. I am not surprised you've turned to food at such a difficult time and I am so sorry for your loss.

The problem with food is that it gives you an instant reward and makes you feel good but in the long run too much of it does you harm.

Hopefully as the lbs come off you will feel better both physically and mentally and will find new things to fill the gap that the food has been filling.

Hi H-g,

You never fail until you give up. Be proud of yourself for having the courage and tenacity to pick yourself up after a stumble.

We can all identify with the struggle keeping to the straight and narrow, so don't think you're coping less well than the rest of us, our fallibility is what makes us human :)

Small, steady steps will get you there and we'll be cheering you on :)

Hi H-g-8390, lots of us had a really hard time getting started at the beginning. It's a big step and can seem pretty daunting. I also really recommend taking small steps, making one change at a time, and trying to plan and be prepared for challenges along the way, they are bound to happen. Good luck :)

As you have just lost your husband this may not be the time to start a weight loss program. You need to be kind to yourself and gradually rebuild your life.

I am so sorry for you having had the same experience at the same age.

Not sure if I mis read your post. Did you mean that you were married for 49 years when your husband died or was your husband 49 years old when he died. My situation was the latter and I was commenting from that point.If the former I expect it is even harder and just make sure that you take care of yourself.

Thank you Rossie yes we were married for 49 years since I was 19 years old and I maybe am expecting to much of myself as its only been 6 months but my weight is on my mind constantlyso I am going to take it one meal at a time and shop wisely .

don't beat yourself up about it, everyone has setbacks. has long as you realize this, get back into your healthy routine again. the more you stress the more unhealthy you want to eat. good luck x
