Hi everyone,

Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 5.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 4.6 pounds, so I've lost 0.6 pound this week. I feel relieved to finally see a loss on the scales, even though it is only a small one. :-)

I am going on holiday to France later this week, so my goal will be to maintain my weight during that time if I can, but I suspect I may gain a couple of pounds, as that is what usually happens - but at least I can work hard to get it off again when I get back.

PLEASE NOTE: ***I will miss next week's weigh-in (28th September 2015), so look out for Prin's name, as she will be posting next Monday's Group Weigh-in thread. I will send a reminder thread mid week, just to remind people who may not have read this. I will be back to post the following thread (on 5th October).***

As you may know, if you weigh-in with us in this Monday weigh-in thread, then one or more of the Fab 5 will respond to you. The Fab Five are:

Prin

Suzybenj

Candystripe (she's still on holiday, but should be back next week I think!).

Ruth_Canal_Runner

and

Lowcal (Me).

If you're new, and fancy joining us, you are very welcome! Just pop in and introduce yourself and share your starting weight (if you want to), plus any goals you're hoping to achieve on your weight loss journey.

Here is a summary of last week's Monday weigh-in group Stats:

Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 57

Total people who lost weight: 34 (76.6 pounds lost) (34.75 kilos)

Total people who gained weight: 11 (15.55 pounds gained) (7.05 kilos)

Total people who maintained weight: 7

Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 3

Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 2

Many thanks to Ruth for compiling those stats, and well done to the group for such great results!

I hope you'll join us for today's weigh-in, and good luck to everyone - here's to a great week ahead for all of us. :-)

Lowcal :-)

Hi there

Glad you have lost this week and hope you enjoy your holiday

I have not posted on quite a few weeks now and I'm not really sure why! I haven't been following my plan concretely but I have still been losing most of the time, just got out of the habit of it I guess.

This week I am down 4lbs after a not so great week last week and am less than a pound away from being into my next stone.

I have finally cleared out clothes that are too big and am really happy to b back in khan's o haven't fit in for 18 months.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Hi SineadC92,

It's great to see you again. Glad you came back to post with us today - and Congratulations on losing 4 pounds, especially as you felt you didn't have such a great week last week. Brilliant that you are really close to being in the next stone - those transitions are so exciting!

Great that you have cleared out those bigger clothes, and that you can wear a whole new set that haven't fitted for 18 months.

Really good progress.

I hope you have another great week ahead.

Thanks for your kind words - I am looking forward to my holiday, but at the same time I hope to do plenty of exercise and choose healthy dishes wherever possible.

Look forward to catching up with you in October, if you're around. Prin will be leading the weigh-in next week, so do look out for her name, if you fancy weighing in then.

Thank you so much.

If you want to post your weigh-in results for this week, then please do - but only if you want to! It's a very personal thing regarding whether you want to weigh-in or not, but this Monday group is a very supportive group, and you would be very welcome.

Hope you have a great week.

Good morning Lowcal and gang 😊

Glad to hear about you loss, Lowcal. It is so frustrating when nothing"moves" the right direction.

I hope you have a wonderful time in France, I hope you manage to maintain, maybe plenty of walks? 😉

My week has been good, despite my right shin hurting since last week and I have not done any running 😡, I have walked plenty. Also I have upped my calories as I was feeling very listless and tired all of last week.

Well to my surprise my weight had gone from 207 lb to 204.6 lb. I fell so much better in myself, I am also eating part of my exercise calories on some days, but not all.

I will carry on with this for now, and rethink when it stops working.

Anyway, have a fantastic time away,

✈🍸✴

ZestHealthy BMI in reply to Elissy

Hi Elissy,

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, it was really good to finally see some movement on the scales after the recent weeks of slight gains! :-)

Great to hear you've had a good week despite your pain in your right shin. Good to hear you were able to do some walking. I remember you saying you'd be upping your calories, and that is great that you have had more energy, and that your weight has dropped - Congratulations on losing 2.4 pounds - that is really great! :-)

I also eat some of my exercise calories - infact my total average daily calories for this week were 2,597, and my net calories per day averaged to 1,726. I know I'd lose more if I didn't eat so much, but I do like to have plenty of energy, and I do feel good at the moment.

Sounds like you're on a winning streak with regard to eating sufficient calories to have enough energy, and you've lost a good amount of weight - wishing you another great week ahead.

I love the little aeroplane and cocktail symbols. :-)

Look forward to catching up with you when I'm back, and in the meantime, look out for Prin's post next Monday.

Hi, so glad you lost this week, well done.

I lost 2.25lbs and now weigh 13st 1.75lbs. That's a loss of 12.75lbs in 5 weeks, so very pleased over all. Hoping it will hit the first stone by next week, and that I'll soon be in the 12s!

Good luck to everyone.

By the time I get back from my holiday at the beginning of October, you'll hopefully be enjoying being in the 12's - remember to look out for Prin's post next Monday, as she'll be here as well as the other Fab 5'ers - Candystripe will be back next week too. :-)

Well done Lowcal . Hello fab 5

I had a difficult weekend away, food was prepared and placed in front of me. I tried to restrict portions and I Di walk a lot on Saturday.

I only lost 0.2kg but to be honest I am relieved not to have gained. Disappointed in a way but it could have been worse. I am now 58.3kg (9st. 2.5 lbs) Bmi 24.2

I have just completed a 3 mile walk with booster cables and plan to do that 5x this week (only managed 4 last week) hoping to be in the 57's next week

All the best to the rest of you

Hi 2bFabnfit,

Thanks! :-)

I remember that you were going away, so I think it's great that you lost 0.2 kg - you have really done well not to gain in such circumstances. So really well done!!! :-) Glad you're not too disappointed, as I really do think you've achieved a lot to cope with such difficult circumstances. Any trip away is outside the normal routine, and as you say, someone else tends to prepare food, and that can be really difficult to cope with for many reasons.

Lovely that you are in the healthy BMI.

Hope you enjoyed your 3 mile walk, and enjoy the other walks you are planning to do.

Will look forward to catching up with you when I get back, and don't forget to look out for Prin's post next Monday.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Morning Lowcal and everyone. Delighted you lost weight this week as you absolutely deserve it. Congrats. Have an amazing holiday in France. :-)

I've lost three pounds this week so am over the moon this morning. So I've gone from 12st 2lbs to 11st 13lbs. I've had a pretty solid week, even being back at my parents for the weekend was okay. Aim for the week is to get in more exercise. I managed 4 days of circuit training last week but would like to do 6 this week. Also need to do some cooking tonight to prepare some dinners and lunches for the week as I've cleared my fridge and freezer out. Don't want to lose momentum.

Have a great week all :-)

Wow, Congratulations to you for losing 3 pounds this week, that is fantastic! :-) You're into the 11's - that is a double celebration in my book!!! :-)

Well done for managing 4 days of circuit training, and I hope you achieve your goal to do 6 this week. Great that you're planning to do some cooking tonight to prepare your dinners and lunches, that is a great strategy.

Like you say, hold on to that momentum.

Remember to look out for Prin's post next Monday, and I'll look forward to catching up with you when I'm back in early October.

So that's my confession over . I start my new lifestyle today and look forward to sharing the future with you guys and hopefully picking up tips to stay focused and encouraged .

Welcome welcome welcome. Absolutely no need for confessions or feeling embarrassed. Stand tall -You will get nothing but support here. We all have to start somewhere- and many of us have slip ups and blips along the way. You will hear of some pretty amazing inspirational stories on this thread - so armed with that it will hopefully give you the courage to hang in there when things are not going so well. I know it works for me:-)

Hooray -you have started on your healthy new you journey. So good luck for next week- keep your aims realistic - a pound loss is very respectable - even a half pound is a loss- they all add up. And last pit stop try to maintain.....

Look forward to hearing from you next week.xx

Yes, frolicking in France is definitely a lucky past-time. Hopefully by the time I get back in early October, you'll be well into the 13's, and leaving the 14 stone marker behind. :-)

Good luck with it - I'd recommend the NHS 12 week plan if you've not already seen it, along with an app like Myfitnesspal to help you track calories and exercise. But whatever plan you choose, I wish you success with it.

Hi Alison185,

Thank you. :-)

Firstly, well done for maintaining your weight this week. I know you lost 1 pound last week, and that you've already lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks, so maintaining that great weight loss progress is really really good! :-)

The fact you've noticed that you've been a bit less focused this week, and having always recorded exactly what you're eating is a good thing to have noticed - and you can definitely tighten up on that, which should bring you continued progress.

I know it's your Birthday next week, so would just like to wish you a Very Happy Birthday for then. I think it's a sensible goal to maintain - as Birthdays are definitely challenging! :-)

I hope you have a nice time celebrating your Birthday, and I'll look forward to seeing how you're getting on when I get back in early October. In the meantime, I hope you'll join Prin and the other Fab 5'ers at next week's Monday weigh-in.

I weigh 9st 8.8lbs today so a small loss of 0.2lbs. I've been off at home this week and found it tough. We've been out for three meals and I've drank a lot more wine and beer than I usually do so glad to see a loss. Stayed the same this week. Weighed myself on Friday and I had lost 2lbs, but it was my sisters birthday and we went for a Chinese on sat night. So back to square 1 again.

Next week I am determined to see a loss, with no plans for the weekend it should be doable!

Well done on your loss Lowcal, and enjoy your hols, I love France.

in reply to Dozzle

Good morning Dozzle, you may only be seeing a temporary effect - the Chinese probably hasn't undone that whole 2lbs. Your body may just still be dealing with the high-salt effects etc. Might be worth re-weighing in a couple of days to see if your 2lb loss appears again. Or it should definitely reappear by next Mon, especially if next wknd is going to be much quieter. Have a great week, congrats for at least maintaining today, and hope you see a loss on the scales again soon :)

this week i have stayed the same at 10st 10. Had a but of a dodgy tummy midweek which resulted in me doing no exercise which im not happy with 😠but cant blame anyone but myself. No worries though looking forward to this week so good luck everyone x

in reply to kars1111

Good morning kars1111, congrats for staying the same despite being unwell during the week and fitting less exercise in as a result. I also did less exercise this week than I wanted to, but I don't feel the effort goes to waste, as hopefully this week's efforts will show in next week's weigh-in. No one's to blame, it's just that weight loss is an imperfect journey, with both ups and downs, and a few maintaining weeks along the way too. It's the overall direction that counts :)

Morning Fab Five and congratulations on your loss Lowcal, you have turned around last weeks tiny gain and I understand from your last weeks post that you can feel a difference in your clothes size so thats another bonus. Many thanks to you all for your continued efforts in putting this thread together, the regular weigh in and holding myself accountable is truly helping to keep me on track. I have lost 1.5 lb this week which I am pleased with, my weight loss since starting the 12 week plan is steady which I believe will make it more sustainable. Going back over my progress so far, with the exception of joining a regular pilates class which I am really enjoying I haven't managed to schedule any other regular exercise into my week. This weeks goal try to fit in at least one cross-trainer session and one kettle bell session. Good luck to everyone for a successful week.

Hi Prin thank you for your support, I have a 5 KG kettle bell at home which I have spells of using and then using it as a door stop. I'm determined to pick it up and dust it off again this week, even a 10 - 15 minute helps to tone muscles. My aim is to tackle the 10 000 kettle bell swing challenge in October which I have done once before a couple of years ago but it took me 6 weeks. A few practice sessions between now and 1st Oct should help to wake the muscles up and make the challenge achievable in 31 days. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Have a good week.

Hi everyone who is weighing in this morning ! And congratulations on your weight losses. Commiserations to those of US ( yes, I include myself) who havnt managed a good week.

For me, this is my usual pattern of weight loss, even when I have joined actual clubs, my second week ends up not being as good as the first and this week is no exception. I have gained 1 pound.

I know why, its because the first flush of enthusiasm has passed, and ive relaxed into old habits.

It HAS to stop. And it WILL stop right now.

I do intend to keep posting, and my goal for next week is to take back the gained pound.

Im also taking advice from you all, and increasing my calorie count to 1500, so we will see how that pans out.

Have a good week everyone and good luck to us all :D xxx

Hi Libbydaniels88,

Thanks for your kind words. Sorry to hear you've gained a pound this week. You spoke of your usual pattern of weight loss, and that you typically find that the second week is particularly challenging for you. Would you say you've gained a similar amount of weight to previous second weeks? If it's a bit less weight gained, then that would be a positive.

What I pick up from your post today is that you are sounding quite 'firm' and 'focused' with yourself - as you've emphasised that you are going to tackle it now, and nip it in the bud and move forward from it.

I'm so glad that you intend to continue posting, and that you have set yourself a goal to take back the gained pound.

Increasing your calorie intake to 1500 sounds like a good plan - I hope it pans out well for you, and that the extra pound will soon be back off again.

Remember that Prin will be posting next week's thread, so look out for her name.

Look forward to catching up with you when I get back.

Good morning fab five, well done on going down Lowcal! Week 12 (where did that time go?) and down 0.75lbs, which considering the eating out I've done last week in really pleased that I've managed to maintain a slow downward trend 😀. Trying to keep up the exercise and am aching from a new low impact but with weights exercise class! Good fun but hard.

Off to Brussels for the day on Friday, it's going to be a long day!

Have a good week all.

Cass

in reply to Cass6

Hi Cass6, congrats on reaching week 12! And a great loss, yes, considering the challenges you faced this week with eating out etc. Good you're feeling the effects of your new exercise class too. I hope that as you go to more classes you find you ache less afterwards. I think often the first session is the worst for that. Enjoy Brussels on Friday - that sounds amazing. Also, good luck for week 13 (if you're still counting?) :)

Hi Lowcal and fab five and everybody :-)

Yeah - yippee - hurray - Lowcal, you've seen a loss on the scales !! Now all that muscle has built up, you will be burning fat and losing weight !! (Except of course on holiday, when it might be a bit more tricky ;-) ) Congratulations anyway - you must be feeling a lot better today for that. I hope you enjoy your holiday :-)

My weight today is 187.2 lbs, which is a loss of 1.2lbs (Total loss 13.4lbs). Now I would usually be a bit disappointed in that (would prefer it closer to 2 than 1, especially as I was close to my overall loss of a stone so far) - but weight this week has been really weird. As I weigh everyday, I seen it go up and down like a yo yo - one day losing nearly a lb, then it goes back on over a couple of days, then it disappears again. The body is a strange thing !! Must be something to do with water ?

Anyway, I've been doing lots of walking this week and did my W4R1 of C25K this morning, and hoping to keep it all up this week. Feeling a lot trimmer than I was, and now also fitting into a lower size jeans (16), so overall I'm pleased.

Good luck this week everyone :-D

Congratulations Lucca, 1.2lbs weight loss is fantastic! :)

It's funny you should mention the up and down on the scales this week, as I've experienced exactly the same. It's very weird and it didn't happen last week, so I've been trying to work out the reason for it. Maybe you're right about the water.

in reply to moreless

Odd isn't it - I get the odd fluctuation, but nothing like this week ! (And annoying because I was another 1/2lb lighter during the week :-) !!) I'm putting it down to increased exercise and it doing something weird to me ! Lets hope we even ourselves out next week, moreless :-D

Hi Lucca,

Congratulations on losing 1.2 pounds this week, and to achieving an overall loss of 13.4 pounds, you're so close to losing a full stone!!! That's fantastic!!! :-)

Great that you've been doing lots of walking, and also progressing on the C25k - hope you're enjoying it. Great that you're feeling a lot trimmer, and hope you're enjoying wearing those slimmer jeans - really great! :-)

I agree with you about weight fluctuations daily - that's probably why some people advocate not weighing that regularly, but I must say that I also enjoy weighing daily - and it definitely varies quite a bit! I do think it's to do with fluid retention - and maybe due to the saltiness of different meals, as well as the water retention around muscles etc when we've exercised.

Wishing you another great week ahead, and I'll look forward to catching up with you when I'm back from holiday. Thanks for your kind words.

Look out for Prin's name next Monday, as she'll be posting the thread.

Have a great week.

in reply to Zest

Thanks Lowcal - that's why I quite like weighing daily. I would have struggled a bit if I'd jumped on the scales this morning to 'only' find a 1.2lb loss - but because I've been seeing it going up and down a bit this week, I don't mind so much. Each to their own however, and I know it doesn't suit everyone.

Thanks again for all your replies to this thread. Take a well earned rest on your holiday and watch out for any sunbathing French mushrooms - apparently they go topless over there ;-)

Hi Rossie1942,

I don't remember seeing you here before, so a Very Warm Welcome. Really well done for losing 3 pounds over the past two weeks - I suspect Ruth (our stats expert) will probably count 1.5 pound as this week's loss, if that's ok with you.

I found it interesting that you mentioned that you feel you've been 'lax' over the last couple of weeks - whatever you've been doing, it's been very effective in helping you to lose 3 pounds.

Hope you're enjoying it so far, and that you have another great week ahead.

Remember that if you want to join us next week, then please look out for Prin's name, as she will be posting the thread, but it will have the same title, and the current date will be in brackets - and it will be 28th September's post.

I'll be back in early October and will hope to catch up with you when I get back.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Good Morning Fab 5 and the Monday Club,

Well done Lowcal, any loss is a loss and should be celebrated in my opinion and now you have a week in France to plan your next fat attack.

Well I've managed to shed half a pound this week, I was expecting at best to maintain so quietly pleased with myself this morning.

This is my last Monday weigh in for a while as l'm off on holiday next Monday for a couple of weeks. However, I'm going to post my weight next Sunday, only a day early so should be accurate enough to maybe include in next weeks total figures?

Have a fantastic holiday Lowcal, rest and relaxation, enjoy!

Have a great week everyone and my best wishes to you all.

Hi Jenever,

I've just noticed Prin is in the house, so I'm responding to posts out of order, and more randomly!

Good morning! You're right, holidays can often be a time to plan for changes or tweaks in our lives, and so I may well think about my weight loss strategies for leading up to Christmas. I have committed to trying to shift the extra pounds by then - I must get focused when I return and try to achieve that. :-) But pre-planning is definitely something that helps me.

Congratulations to you on losing half a pound this week, that is really great, especially as you were anticipating maintaining weight this week. Really good! :-)

I think it's a good idea for you to post your results on Sunday, and hopefully Ruth will be happy to include them for next week's total figures, providing it fits in with her time-table. She's the stats woman currently! A fantastic job she's doing as well. :-)

Thanks for your holiday wishes, and I hope you have a fantastic time on your holiday too. Good luck, and hope you come back feeling refreshed, fit and healthy. Most importantly, enjoy! :-)

Catch up with you when you get back.

Lowcal :-)

I'll try to include your early weigh-in next week Jenever. Congrats for losing half a lb now you're into maintaining. You must be feeling very pleased and ready for that holiday :)

:-D hi I am back to normal life, after nearly a week at Berlin. I stayed with friends to celebrate ... and I gained some weight. This morning I was with 93,8kg and this only after two cups of coffee.... The time at Berlin was splendid and we had wonderful warm weather, one shower otherwise it was summery and this so late in September.- Now I really have to think again at my goal for Christmas to be slim for Santa Claus, to fit in the dresses again :-P , at least 5kg, please Father Christmas....

Thank you Fabulous 5, thank you Lowcal...

in reply to

Hi flower-arranger - just quickly looking back, am I right you weighed in at 93.4kg last week? That means this weeks gain is just 0.4kg, hopefully easily reversed now you're back from Berlin. It's often the case that an after-holiday weigh-in shows a small gain. Good luck getting back into your normal routine, and I also hope you'll manage to lose 5kg by Christmas, that definitely sounds achievable :)

in reply to

Thank you for your kindness ;- )

At Santa Claus Day I should look a bit smarter again.... (°_°)

Good morning all. Lowcal I am glad the scales are behaving, Bon vacances,🎡🎠 and enjoy the fantastic French food. No one makes crudités like the French and there are plenty of other delicious healthy food options in restaurantsfor main meals for example Vietnamese food, Japanese food in Paris and cous cous everywhere. It is however a very bad place for snacks and breakfast is tricky. 👿👿

I am on holiday with no scales which is strange. Also no gym for two weeks. Last week was very sociable , I did most of the cooking so everyone ate well but I still stuck to my goals. This week is my personal boot camp, slightly cutting gross cAlories to 1,350 , every meal is now planned and I have a different exercise plan 🏄🏻

Hope you all have a good week.

in reply to Gonti

Hi Gonti, I love the sound of your holiday, it really sounds like you're very happy to be out in the wilds away from your everyday distractions. I feel like this when I go camping, a kind of relief of having a much smaller set of factors to think about everyday - how shall I have my eggs this morning - where shall I go for a long walk today, etc. Enjoy exercising in nature's gym and hope you can keep making delicious and healthy food, while having an excellent time. Love your little surfing man symbol. I guess that's a clue to today's schedule :)

Hi Gonti

I like your determination of a personal boot camp. Are you planning on 1350 calories per day all week and how many exercise sessions? My hubby is away the first weekend in October (which will make it a quiet weekend for me) and I'm thinking about adopting your idea along with starting the kettle bell challenge. I could even make it a totally dry week, wow you have really got my imagination going now about how strict I could be. Thank you for inspiring me.

Gonti profile image
Gonti10 kg in reply to 3rd-Time-Here

I adapted the idea from something Ruthcanalrunner did a few weeks ago. I am basically doubling down on what I have done the last four months. . Eat a bit less mainly by cutting portions of carbs a bit and eliminating snacks and switch from cycling -which is not strenuous for me --to hill walking which - as I am recovering from an accident - is exhausting. I am on holiday so at least 24 hours activity over seven days. Lots of stretching, planks, press ups, lunges and squats. No alcohol or processed food. Hoping to get lots of sleep.

Let me know what you do do. I want to try kettle bells when I get back.

Good morning Lowcal, congrats on losing that 0.6lb on the scales. It might sound small but your recent gain was small too. It all seems to have evened out. Hope you can stay focused right up to your hol, keeping exercising and being careful with portions etc. And enjoy your time away while keeping a lookout for healthy meal options and opportunities to go for long walks etc. Mostly just have an excellent break of course too! :)

I've stayed the same this week at 10st5. I'm relieved as it's my first full week not recording my food on myfitnesspal. I'm into maintaining now, so it feels like things are going well. I was worried I'd see a gain as I've also done less running (2 runs instead of 3) and less exercising at home due to family events at the beginning of last week. I have another challenging week ahead too, with a religious fast (which weirdly tends to make you gain weight rather than lose it). I will keep trying to apply common sense and do my exercises as and when I can.

Hi Ruth (another of our Fab 5'ers, and great statistician too),

Good morning! Thanks for your kind words, and very sensible advice about keeping focused right up to the start of my holiday - that is good advice! I do hope to do lots of walking while on holiday, and hopefully some swimming as well. Hopefully the sea will be warm this time of year. I remember Gonti mentioning that the sea temperature was warmer - and her photo of the sparkly sea was so beautiful.

Congratulations for maintaining your weight at 10 stone 5 pounds this week, and I can appreciate how good that must feel, as you were not recording your food on Myfitnesspal. Sounds like you've had a challenging week with the extra family events at the start of last week, and I wish you luck with your religious fast this week, that sounds particularly challenging.

Good luck with it, and hope it goes well. :-)

Lowcal :-)

in reply to

Hi Ruth - I'm so pleased you've managed your first week of maintaining. I'm rejigging my target to say that I want to reach my ideal weight and not dare go 5lbs over for at least 6 months. Then I will feel happy that I've got somewhere this time :-) (First things first though - I must get to that ideal weight !!).

Is your fast a 24 hour thing ? (I'm just guessing which fast based on your name !!) Must be quite tough - do you do many other fasts during the year ? I would really struggle not to go overboard afterwards ! Good luck and happy fasting :-)

in reply to

You've probably guessed right Lucca :) It's more like 25 hours, with no water too (!) but I've done it over 20 times now, so I'm not worried about managing it. I only do this fast though, that's enough for me! The struggle is more to do with not going overboard beforehand, kind of 'stocking up'. Afterwards every tiny mouthful tastes delicious and you take it pretty slowly.

I like the sound of your goal being adjusted to allow for a period of maintaining. I put something like this on Sueper's post about Christmas goals, aiming to still be maintaining come Christmas. It will definitely feel good to have stayed the same all that time.

Morning Fab 5. Woohoo lowcal - great that your weight loss is on the move again. France - lucky old you. French food is not as bad for piling on the pounds as other cuisines, I find. It's the vino that does the damage!! ;0) Anyway, last week I weighed in at 17.7.7, this week 17.6.6. I have not been this weight for at least 8 years. I sang with my choir at an event this weekend, put on my only recently purchased replacement uniform top, and whereas before it was a snug fit, it is now quite loose! In previous posts you have mentioned squats/strength exercises you have been doing. Where can I find out about these, because I need to tone up? The legs are Ok because of the C25K running and I've been doing the strength and flexibility podcasts on there, but my bingo wings are starting to look more like a pterodactyl's sails! Any pointers most welcome.

Wishing all a happy, healthy and successful week.

in reply to Jigglypuff_62

Hi Jigglypuff-62, congrats on your 1.1lb loss this week - and on feeling the difference in your clothes too. I found it so motivating when I could feel my clothes getting looser. It's particularly good that it's the clothes you wear for choir singing, as that's tied into something you really enjoy doing, and will hopefully be one less distraction now enabling you to sing at your absolute best!

Re squats, I started a 'Strength September' drive which Lowcal's been absolutely ace at doing - I've had a mid-Sept 'break' but getting back to it now. I based it on the '30 day squat challenge', but with fewer squats than advised online (e.g. starting with 10 or 20, then building up a few more day by day). If you look through the NHS 'livewell' pages there are lots of exercises there. (Look here - nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/... but be warned they're not as harmless as they look - remember to warm up, stretch etc, and stop if anything starts to hurt!) Lastly there is a series of NHS podcasts called 'strength and flex' which I keep meaning to do. Hope this gives you a few places to start looking, and have a great week :)

Thanks for the suggestions and link Ruth_canal_runner. I will follow those up. Uniform trousers were looser too, so shape is changing all round (or maybe not so all round now!). Wishing you a good week too.

Hi Jigglypuff_62,

Yes, you're right, the French wine could be challenging, but hopefully I'll not go over-board on it. :-)

Congratulations to you for losing 1.1 pounds this week, and to achieving a weight that you've not seen for at least 8 years - that is fantastic! :-)

Great to hear you've also noticed a difference in the fit or your uniform top.

Regarding the squats and strength exercises, I've learned how to do squats from watching DVD's - I tried to download the Strength and Flex podcasts previously, but couldn't manage to download them for some reason, but I notice that you've already looked at those, so I am presuming that they may not cover squats - I would suggest that you google 'squats' online and look at available u-tube films showing you how to do them. One of the other Fab 5-ers might be able to offer you more precise suggestions of where to look - I know that Ruth_Canal_Runner is doing the September strength challenge, and she's doing lots of squats each day. So are a few of the others as well. Similarly for the upper arms, maybe google for some u-tube videos that focus just on those areas.

Wishing you another great week ahead, and remember to look out for Prin's name next Monday for the Group weigh-in post.

Look forward to catching up with you when I get back from holiday.

Morning Lowcal and everyone!

Nice to read some losses on the scales for a few people this morning! Helps to keep me inspired! :)

Well done on seeing a loss this morning too Lowcal! So pleased for you! And off to France! Sounds lovely! :) I hope you have an amazing time and at least maintain your weight without sacrificing too much of your enjoyment while you're there! :)

I have managed to maintain again this morning. Still stopped at 12st 12lbs. At least have have managed to keep the 13st at bay. But I know why I have not lost much lately. I have had a few meals out with friends and I have become too relaxed with what I am recording in MyFitnessPal.

I need to get back on top of things. I have 39 weeks until my goal with about 40lbs that I want to lose. Now that the weeks are less than the lbs that I want to lose, I need to up my game. I would love to see a 2lb loss on the scales next week so I will be trying my hardest this week. I have planned out my weeks meals again and also intend to go to the gym Monday-Friday this week.

Here's to a good week for everyone! :)

Sophie

in reply to Artsoru

Hi Sophie, congrats for maintaining. You can never really underestimate the difference between maintaining and gaining - you just need to push a little harder to turn that maintain into a loss, and as you say, you have warded off the 13s - you're still on track! How about setting an intermediate goal to help increase your focus, perhaps to lose 10lbs in the next 2 months? 39 weeks is a long time to plan ahead for. Good luck knuckling down to more gym time, no better time than the present - will you manage to go today? Hope this week's meals all go to plan too. Wishing you lots of luck for next week's weigh-in :)

:-) you sound very similar to to me - and life sometimes is to social to loose wight - so the next best is to maintain and vow not to go over a certain weight. I am in a focused mood this week - so aiming for a modest 1 pound loss- which will take me nearer to 12 stone than 13 stone:-).

Good luck to you :-)

Hi Lowcal and the Fab 5, well done on your loss this week. I have somehow gained 1lb this week, and I have no idea why, as I've been good and stuck to my calories, etc, so I am a bit disappointed as I cannot actually pinpoint a reason for a 1lb gain. However, I'll keep going and am determined to get under the 12 stone marker soon. So last Monday morning I weighed 12st 1 + 3/4 lb, this morning I weigh 12st 2 + 3/4 lb. Hope you enjoy your holiday in France.

Hi all

Well done low cal, great result, and well deserving of a holiday.

Had a really strict week this week, which feels good if a little dull.

Weight last week was 19st 13lbs,

weight this week was 19st 9 lbs

loss of 4 lbs.

I do worry about the sustainability of my regime though..... seems to be coming off Ok, but its when I revert back to normal that the weight goes back on. need to think carefully about this going forwards....

in reply to

Hi Health_Kick_2000, that's great that you saw a loss of 4lbs this week - maybe the week was dull but you've achieved what you set out to do, so you should feel proud of that. There are lots of ways to start making your 'regime' more fun. I think finding exercise you enjoy is really important. Maybe just keep trying new things, try to join some classes you haven't tried before, maybe find something more creative like dance-based exercise, or find some good music/podcasts/audiobooks to listen to while going for walks etc. Re food, I find the same approach helps - keep trying new things - look for new vegetables/recipes you haven't tried before. Also take the hard work out of it by pre-preparing some meals in bulk and freezing them in portions. Hope you find a way to sustain your progress, and hope this coming week also brings you great results (but in a more enjoyable way) :)

Hey group!

sounds like many people did quite well last week and so did I did :-) I am back to 14 stone 9lbs after a 2lb loss, so I am really happy with that. I went back to my slimming world diary, made sure I had between 1200-1400 calories per day and for exercise I did the Jillian Micheal DVD at home, tried a circuit training class and tried my first personal training session so quite an active week for me.

I am hoping to continue this and aim for another 2lbs by next monday so wish me luck :-)

Good morning gracie1985, what a great week! So good to hear you're back on track and with an excellent 2lb loss to show for it too. Going back to the food diary and your three-pronged attack on getting into an exercise routine all sounds really positive. Howdy pardners! Well done lowcal on your loss, you're working hard so you thoroughly deserve it. Hope you enjoy your holiday because you deserve that too after all the hard work!

I'm suffering from very low mood at the moment, my husband has noticed it too, and yet this week has been easy to stick to from a food point of view, because I've got into the habit of keeping a food diary with calorie counting, and planning what to eat. So that's kind of good because usually if my mood dips I weaken.

I've lost 2 1/2 lbs this week but I don't feel even remotely excited about it and I'm really not sure why. The fear always hangs over me of depression coming back to bite me - I get good spells and then some "not so good" spells, shall we say. Anyone have any suggestions for healthy mood boosting foods which they find work for them? I'm eating a good balance of food, not missing out any of the food groups at all so I'm worried about the dip in mood. I should be celebrating and I just don't feel it at all right now. Not good, sorry to be so gloomy on a Monday!

Well done to everyone who is fighting the fight, let's just keep on keepin' on eh?

in reply to WeightWarrior

Hi Weightwarrior, congrats on your 2 1/2 lb loss this week, hope you will start to feel excited about it soon. Maybe look for something more tangible, like try on some clothes that used to feel tight - you might find they're fitting better. Or buy something new to celebrate now you've lost this weight. Just numbers on their own can feel pretty uninspiring at the best of times.

For mood-enhancing foods, it's boring, but I often turn to supplements when my mood drops. As a veggie, I worry about having low iron, B vits etc, so I have a session of Berocca and Feroglobin. Might all be placebo effect but it helps me, so maybe see what vits you have lurking in the medicine cabinet and up your intake for a few days? Depending on whether you believe in them I guess!

Things like seeds are good for natural minerals, marmite has all those mood-enhancing B-vits (depending if you're a love or hate marmite person of course) and for iron you can turn to green leafy veg, dark chocolate (in moderation!) and raisins/dried apricots. Also, food aside, exercise is good too - if you can get that endorphins feeling after a run/brisk walk, then you may feel a nice lift from that too :)

Meanwhile, great that your new food diary habits are helping you stay on track despite a drop in your mood. I hope it picks up soon and doesn't develop into something more serious. Take care, Ruth :)

WeightWarrior in reply to

Thanks so much Ruth...I found some multi-vitamins with iron which I haven't been taking. Maybe I thought, ah, I don't need those now I'm eating better. Anyway, just went and put a couple of those "down the hatch". I'm not going to risk bringing any choc, even dark, into the house while I'm feeling low as the food has always been the thing I do when I get a bit down! The vitamin pot says it contains 100% RDA of all the vitamins so fingers crossed that it might help a bit. I've been thinking to try a walk...a bit nervous about trying to get walking again as I've got to a point where I'm so heavy that my back is groaning even more than it used to and I am still paranoid about that weak disc "slipping" again! I had planned to try to shed some weight and then slowly start walking on the flat when I had less weight and pressure on the spine (and the stupid swollen leg of course lol). Maybe I shouldn't put it off. I just remember thinking I would power through the pain about a year and a half back, took more painkillers and I made myself worse and worse to the point where I couldn't do anything and was just in pain all the time, because I didn't realise it was the disc pressing on the nerve and I was just constantly aggravating it. Heavily told off by the physio on that one...if she could have put me in shackles to stop me overdoing things, I'm sure she would have!

I think I have a lot of caution, and maybe fear, in my head atm and don't know what to do for the best. I think, "I should exercise..." but then I remember when I was told I absolutely should not have been doing that and I go round in circles in my mind! I think a target for me this week is to actually go out and attempt a walk, and try to remember that I have to get back as well. I always had the tendency to start out fine and then end up in agony on the way back because I had gone too far (another thing the physio told me off a lot for lol).

I'm sure I'll sort it out, the biggest battle is in my head atm!

in reply to WeightWarrior

Okay - glad my suggestion about supplements wasn't too wide of the mark, hopefully that may help. It's hard to tell if we're short of something, even with a well-balanced diet, so i do think it's worth topping up from time to time.

Re walking with your disc and leg issues, it sounds like you need to be very cautious. Maybe not so much a brisk walk as a spot of fresh air then! Did the physio suggest any specific exercises? It would massively help your confidence as well as your recovery if you can find a way to ease back into exercise gradually and sustainably. I've re-started doing lower back exercises on the floor because of my back pain last week, and also do Alexander technique from time to time (more so in the past, but feel I ought to re-introduce this too). Would something more gentle like that be appropriate perhaps? Maybe to get more a sense of wellness and relaxation (rather than high-octane endorphins!) which would hopefully boost your mood a bit too? Good luck with the battle in your head as well! :)

WeightWarrior profile image
WeightWarrior in reply to

She did, but this was before the leg issue started. I can still do some of them, but the "child pose" is completely out atm because it was killing my knees and leg - it just felt wrong having so much weight putting so much pressure on my knees, and the leg was quite painful with that pressure on it. There are still others I can do tho to loosen the lower back and strengthen the core a wee bit. Have to do them on the bed for now, the floor is just way too hard, both to lie on, and to get up from...maybe when I'm lighter it will be easier eh! :-)

in reply to WeightWarrior

Exercising on the bed is okay as long as it's fairly firm (some people put a board under the mattress, but it's not always practical to do this...). I totally sympathise with the floor being both hard and difficult to get up from. I've started to use a mat on the floor, as exercising straight on the floor was too hard on my back. There are methods for getting up off the floor, it's worth googling them, sort of rolling onto your side first. But if you're struggling to put weight on your leg then maybe wise to stick with using the bed for now.

I've looked up the 'child pose' and this is one of the ones included in the back exercises I'm doing (but under a different name). The advice on the link below is quite good - it says not to lean back more than you feel comfortable to, and actually warns about sitting too far back if you have a knee problem. So your caution with this sounds spot on.

WeightWarrior in reply to

Thank you, I figure at the moment, I have to just do whatever I can and leave what I can't...I just cannot put any pressure on that left leg, it is swollen all around and pressure on the swollen area is murder, unfortunately it's all along the bottom of the leg, which is the part which makes contact with the floor when trying the child pose. Never mind, hopefully in the fullness of time and with some weight loss I might be able to do it if there's not so much pressure on it. I won't put a time limit on that one, I'll just say that I hope it happens in the future!

in reply to WeightWarrior

Well done Weightwarrior. You may not feel like it at the moment - but that weekly loss is something to be proud of :-) Ruth has given you some lovely suggestions for mood enhancing healthy stuff - I am going to be the devil on the other shoulder and say can you also fit in the odd 'naughty' treat into your calorie count ? Perhaps you are feeling a bit deprived and something to look forward to now and again might help your mood ? Feel free to ignore this devil and stick with the angelic Ruth on the other shoulder :-D

WeightWarrior profile image
WeightWarrior in reply to

lol @ devil! Because my recommended calories are so high in comparison with a lot of folk, within my daily intake I have allowed myself a 100 cal snack per day, in the evening, as that's my worst time - if I'm going to eat extra, that'll be when I do it. I discovered Alpen light jaffa cake cereal bars at 70 cals and they are absolutely delicious, they have a really orangey kick to them and a drizzle of choc on top. I have an army of 100 cal snacks available to me so I actually feel like I am being naughty if I have one every night, and yet I can still do it, it's very weird really! Plus my 4 fruity tic tacs per evening lol, mustn't forget that 8-ish calories! I suppose it's all psychological really. For whatever reason it seems to be working for me atm. I think it's probably because I can see me actually being able to do this for the rest of my life, I'm not completely going without things, just being sensible and watching what I eat and drink. Of course it might get harder as I have to reduce calories as I get lighter...then the devil and I may have to fight a dual, pistols at dawn and all that!

in reply to

Not so angelic Lucca - I did suggest chocolate, in disguise as something healthy (but really - the power of really dark choc - although maybe it's too much of a temptation for some!) :)

Hi WW,

Firstly, congrats on the 2 1/2lb weight loss and secondly,I'm sorry you're feeling a bit blue at the mo. I can't match the excellent words of advice from Ruth, or Lucca's devilish idea :), but maybe it lies in the fact that you feel as if you've cracked the food code and that the challenge is gone and you're left with the boring monotony of it all.

How about cracking the exercise code? I don't mean anything you're not capable of, but plan simple things for your daily "workout", with a view to increasing in number, or difficulty. If nothing else, it'll give you something else to think about :)

Hope you're feeling much brighter, very soon.

WeightWarrior profile image
WeightWarrior in reply to moreless

Thanks for your kind words. I was thinking about this, but it sounded daft at first...I thought about doing sets of 5 very slow "step ups" on the bottom stair at intervals through the day. And maybe get 2 tins of baked beans, 1 per hand and just do some slow arm raising or something. I am able to do some of the physio's loosening exercises for the lower back, but right now, the kneeling in the child pose just kills my knees and swollen leg, it feels like there is too much pressure on all of it, even on the bed, so that stretch is out for now - it just feels wrong. I think you are right about planning, I need to write down a list and tick it off through the day, maybe that will help me, as my head tends to get bogged down and then I can't think straight and just get more and more down but achieve nothing in the process. Gotta try to avoid that happening eh!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stone in reply to WeightWarrior

Absolutely, let's face it, none of us likes our head down the bog, do we ;)

No exercise is silly, we just need to fine tune it to our own abilities. For instance, arthritis in my hands stops me from holding onto tins of beans, so you're way ahead of me there :)

Hi Lowcal and everyone, I'm a bit late posting as I overslept this morning and just catching a moment at work to log in.

Well done Lowcal for managing to lose 0.6lb, and hope you have a great holiday in France. I love the way the usual French meal begins with salad or raw veggies.

Well I'm pleased to report that I was down to 55.7 kg this morning, from 56.1 this time last week so a loss of 0.4 kg. This is even after eating pizza at the weekend, though I limited myself to half a 10" pizza and made sure the topping was mostly veg.

Entering week 9, I'm feeling good. My older son has just moved in temporarily with his girlfriend who is Japanese and loves cooking so I'm looking forward to see what she makes with her rice cooker.

Salsa classes have just resumed too so I'm burning off more calories dancing! Have a great week everyone!

in reply to Carolee13

Hi Carolee, congrats on losing 0.4kg, that's very respectable especially considering you still enjoyed pizza - although it sounds like you enjoyed it in a pretty healthy way. Those salsa classes sound excellent, as well as the possibility of being invited over for some authentic Japanese cuisine some point soon :) Hope your week keeps going as well as it's started, and good luck for seeing another loss next Monday :)

Hi Carolee13,

Don't worry, there's someone here all day and in the evening too, so you could never be too late on a Monday! :-)

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I'd forgotten about the tendency to have starters in France involving salads or raw veggies, that's a healthy start to a meal! :-)

Congratulations to you for losing 0.4 kg, that is really great! :-) Your pizza sounded like a good choice, as it was smaller and with a mostly veg topping. I like the fact that Pizza Express pizzas do a smaller pizza, as it works out just over 500 calories (or thereabouts), which is good for a main meal choice. Quite salty though.

How great that your son's girlfriend is Japanese and loves cooking with her rice cooker. I really like sushi dishes. Really tasty.

Enjoy your Salsa classes - that's a fun way to burn off some calories.

Wishing you a great week ahead. Please remember that Prin is posting next Monday's weigh-in thread.

Good luck with your goals for this week, and look forward to catching up with you when I get back.

Hello

I am new to this thread and to the forum. I am in Week 3 of the NHS Weight loss programme. However I started on a Wednesday so Wednesday was my weigh in day. I will now change it to Monday just to be able to join you as I really need support.

This morning I weighed 13 stones 10.25 pounds (87.2 kgs). Maybe we could take that as my starting weight, but for your information

Wednesday 2nd Sept 196 lbs (89kg) 14 stones

Wednesday 9th Sept 194.5 lbs (88.2kg)

Wednesday 16th Sept 192.5 lbs (87.3kg)

Therefore I have lost 3.75 pounds since I started. It's a slow loss, but I had never lost weight before so I am very excited.

Also, I feel better, and my wedding ring which I could not fit in my ring finger anymore, which was in my pinky for months, and which now fits again! Which I am so surprised, at as it has only been two weeks! I cannot believe it.

I think this week though my loss will be less I just hope I won't gain anything back.

Thanks to everyone. Hope you also carry on losing weight!!!!

Thanks for the support !!

in reply to Nussaybah

Hi Nussaybah, welcome and great you will be joining us on Mondays. I agree that it's really good to have the support of a weigh-in. Your starting point is still 14 stone, as that is where you began the programme! But you can track your weekly loss on this thread, or post your own threads on any subjects you like, it's up to you. Whatever you choose to do you'll definitely find loads of support on here :)

I'm also impressed you have noticed the difference so quickly with your wedding ring fitting better. Those small changes really make the difference. Slow and steady is a good way to make sure your weight loss is sustainable, and it means you are consistently making changes to your eating and lifestyle. Like moreless says, it sounds like you've been doing well on your own, hopefully joining this community will help you in keeping that up. Lots of luck for a loss next week :)

Hi Lowcal,

Big congratulations on your loss, you definitely deserve it for your patience and determination!

I just weighed in this morning after the two week business trip and found that I'd gained 2lbs. As It's a 2-week weigh in, for the purposes of accounting we can divide by 2 and put me down for a 1lb gain this week.

I guess I proved the old saying "you can't exercise a bad diet". While I was very consistent with my trips to the gym, I let myself get influenced by the habits of my colleagues, the odd biscuit (or 6!) during meetings, a cake here, a dessert there, finishing my plate when I was long past full and giving up on tracking my calories. It's not easy to eat out 3 meals a day for two weeks and stay on track. After a while I got frustrated always having to estimate what I had eaten, and for the last week, I just winged-it.

I'm a bit frustrated, not with the lbs, but with the ease in which my old habits relapsed.

No more Mr Nice Guy - Determined to get rid of these pesky 2lbs over the next week

Wishing everyone a good week :)

in reply to Meshyt

Hi Meshyt, it sounds like you had 2 weeks of damage limitation. Those extra biscuits, desserts etc must have not been so bad, or your exercise must have been really good, because 2lb gain doesn't sound so bad in that context. What you say about the ease with which old habits slip back in is really key. I wonder if there's a way you could approach a business trip like this differently in future? Could you request a bowl of fruit for the meetings, or bring your own fruit along? Also, I remember you mentioning a lot of your colleagues were muslim, so not drinking alcohol in the evenings. However, I've noticed that people who don't drink tend to be more likely to have dessert, did it seem that way to you too? Maybe if you were expecting everyone to be so into their desserts you might have been better prepared with strategies for saying no (and maybe prepared to be the only one not having dessert).

But in the meantime, what's done is done, and it sounds like you managed well in the circumstances! Good luck getting back on it this week. I'm sure that 2lb can be reversed pretty quickly :)

I hope you have a lovely holiday in France lowcal.

This is the end of week two for me and this morning I weighed in at 12 st 3 lbs which is a loss of two pounds this week. I am feeling positive hoping that next week I can get nearer to the 12 St mark and at some point in October to be under 12 would be brilliant! I have not been down there for many years.

Weekend treats were a Welsh Cake on Sat and Sunday! With my cup of tea. Week two was harder than week one. It's not easy to stay on track every day especially in the evening for me... However, I am grateful for this forum as it is really helping me...so thank you to all those other people out there sharing this journey....and posting their stories....it is so motivating...

Hi Cherry-Blossom,

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it very much! :-)

Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week, and I hope that you enjoyed your second week on the plan. It's great to hear you're feeling positive and that you're looking forward to getting nearer to the 12 stone mark at some point in October. I'll be back for the weigh-in on 6th October, so hopefully you might be there by then.

Welsh cakes are delicious, I can imagine you enjoyed those on the weekend. You mentioned that week 2 was harder than week 1, so I hope that you'll find week 3 manageable.

There are definitely some times of day that are harder than others, and it seems that you've identified evenings as your more challenging times. It can be good to put in place some kind of strategy to help yourself through that. Any piece of information can help you to form a plan to make it better next time round. We're always learning and evolving our strategies - everyone is different so what works for one person may not necessarily work for someone else - but sharing experiences can help us to think what might work, or what is worth trying.

This forum is a motivating place, I agree with you.

Wishing you another great week ahead. Remember to look out for Prin's name at next Monday's weigh-in, and I'll look forward to catching up with you when I get back in early October.

I hope you get on ok with Myfitnesspal, it may seem a bit strange at first, but once you get the hang of it, I think it makes calorie counting like a breeze. You can also make a list of meals that you often have, so that you don't have to input everything individually - that helps to speed things up as well.

Hallo everyone.

I lost 0.45kg last week. Bringing my total weight loss to 8.05kg for the 12 weeks I was following the nhs weight loss plan. Not really the target I had in mind but it is a loss. Better than if I was eating recklessly and putting on weight. I feel good and I can walk without losing my breath. Started the 12 week plan again today. Will give myself a reward when I hit the 85kg mark. I know I won't hit it by end of September as my weight loss is stalling a bit. I have to change my exercise routine, increase intensity and do some strength training. Thank you all for your support, you are all great people and though I have never met each of you, you are family and I love you all. You are a great source of support.

Great news Lowcal :-) well done on your loss this week of 0.6 pound. A loss is a loss is a loss my dear and we have to be grateful for those losses :-) no matter the size. It's been recorded now and you've gone down so let's celebrate. Every single oz! is worth celebrating when it's something we have created ourselves and achieved for ourselves.

This journey isn't an easy one as has been proven, but we still continue to better ourselves and make a difference in our own lives. You are going in the right direction on the scale now so you can be happy with that. Albeit your going to France and your hoping to maintain which in an ideal world that's what we would all like to do, but on the other hand you've had previous experience and have gained, this isn't to bad either because I know that if I was going away on my hols I would live in the moment, enjoy it all, savour the memories and the food and get right back to it on my return so don't worry so much, although I know it will be in the back of your mind LOL :-) That's life. Enjoy your holiday, take that time to relax, eat drink and merry as life is for living and I wouldn't let the diet get in the way of enjoying the good things in life.

What's the saying... "work to live not live to work"

I hope you have a wonderful and fabulous holiday Lowcal safe journey and good memories to treasure :-)

Best wishes

My stats none I am still 11st 1 I looked back to last years post and I was bemoaning that I was 10 11! funny but i feel much more toned this year lifting heavier weights helped. I have already missed one class this week - couldn't be arsed but have done 3 classes today :) I want to be 11st next week a good bowel movement should do it! only one outing this week an Indian tomorrow and not drinking should limit any impact enjoy your holiday I was in meltdown earlier on I didn't realise that my salivating means that Bananna cake has changed her name :) 10 mile run planned for Sunday and the usual myriad of classes during the week enjoy folks and be losers

Hi Prin (another wonderful Fab 5'er),

It can be interesting to look back on the previous year's posts sometimes. Great to hear that you are feeling more toned than this time last year, and that lifting the heavier weights has helped. Congratulations for maintaining your weight this week. I know you had the Ceremony event on the weekend, so that would have no doubt been quite challenging in terms of various goodies being around.

Wow, you've done 3 exercise classes today!!! That is phenomenal...! I am thinking you'll soon be 11 stone at that rate, even without a good bowel movement - although I hope you do have one!

Hope you enjoy your Indian meal tomorrow evening, and having your dry September should definitely help you to stay on track.

I know - I've heard that Bananacake is now Fran with lots of numbers after her name - I love banana cake (Ruth can vouch for that, as I managed to eat lots of Banana cake about a fortnight ago). I didn't admit that publicly before now!!! ;-) I made the recipe according to Ruth's non-refined sugar version, and before I knew it, a lot had been consumed! The moral of that example is to definitely 'freeze' the portions - I always advocated that myself previously, but sadly didn't take my own advice on that occasion! :-)

Enjoy your 10 mile run on Sunday. Thanks again for posting next Monday's group weigh-in thread. I have been reminding people about that, as I don't want them to miss the thread.

Wishing you another great week ahead, and hopefully by the time I get back from holiday you might even be under 11 stone and back in the 10's.

Hi Lowcal

Good news about your loss this week!

Last week I weighed 10st10 and this week I forgot to weigh myself first thing because I was in such a rush! I'm going to hang on now until next Monday.

Have a lovely holiday in France Lowcal!

Good luck to all the other Threaders on this weigh in :)

Hi Nic,

Thank you so much!

No worries if you're going to hang in to weigh yourself next Monday, but I am sure Ruth_Canal_Runner won't mind if you want to weigh in tomorrow morning, as she'll still add you to the stats for this week. Completely up to you of course! Do whatever feels right to you.

I'll look forward to catching up with you when I get back from holiday, and wish you a great week ahead. Don't forget that Prin will be posting the thread next week, so look out for her name.

Hi Lizzy - it might be two week's worth back on according to the scales, but it's not 2 weeks undone. You've made progress developing new habits, new resolve to exercise, and you've already had a great start to the week with that epic walk yesterday. I bet those lbs will come back off again pretty quickly, and then some. Lots of luck for an excellent week :)

Hi Lowcal

Well done on your loss this week.

I’ve lost 5lbs since my last weigh-in on 6 September and am under 10st for the first time in about 10 years.

I can’t claim that the loss is as a result of my new healthy lifestyle as I had to make an unexpected visit to A&E last weekend and finally emerged on Saturday minus a couple of bits & pieces following a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. I didn’t eat anything for almost a week so I am almost certain to gain a little this week as I try to get back to my usual routine.

Have a great holiday

Joyce

Joyce - that is an extreme way to lose weight. I do hope you are now well and make a good recovery.

As you say expect to gain a little of that unexpected weight loss.

Good luck and take care.xx

Hi Joyce,

Just to say I am sorry to hear about your unexpected visit to A&E last weekend with acute pancreatitis, I can imagine that must have been excruciatingly painful. Glad you're ok now.

Not the greatest way to lose weight, but I'd still like to say Congratulations for being under 10 stone for the first time in 10 years. Hope you are recuperating well, and keep well.

I've pressed 'Like' next to your post because I always like to acknowledge everyone's posts when I've read them, not because I 'liked' the actual negative experience you'd been through. Just wanted to say that! :-)

Thanks for your kind holiday wishes, and I wish you a great week ahead. Remember to look out for Prin's name next Monday, as she'll be posting the Monday thread whilst I'm away.

Hi everyone. Congratulations to everyone who lost weight this week. I lost 1lb this week. I know it is a loss and I should be grateful but I was expecting better. I weighed all my food and started walking again. (Had an op 3 weeks ago) Perhaps like some others who posted earlier it is water weight due to time of month. Really hope so. Hope everyone has a good week this week. Thanks to the fab 5 and other posters for keeping this post so positive!!!!

in reply to Claireep

Hi Claireep, congrats on your 1lb loss. It's worth going through all those other ways that your efforts might show, like checking your measurements, trying too tight clothes to see if they fit better yet, and also just reminding yourself what 1lb actually is - it's 2 packs of butter, a can of baked beans, half a packet of sugar, etc etc, no mean feat at all. If you think you're carrying water weight though, then hopefully that will shift by next week and you'll see an even greater loss. You can help it to shift by drinking lots of water too. Good luck for this week, and hope you continue to get back to walking and fully recovered :)

1 pound loss is just fine. the programme only aims to lose a pound or two per week. I have a friend at work who has done that this year and over six months she just about cleared two stone. I am no where near being able to claim that. But still makes you think doesn't it.

So I look fwd to hearing another pound loss next week:-)

Good luck and have a good week:-)

Can I join? I weigh myself every Monday anyway & count calories on myfitnesspal however my weight loss is proving very difficult & though I know I need to lose weight I'm struggling to act.

Thank you guys. I'm weighing in today at 200 1/4 lb (14 st 4 1/4 lb). My aim is just to lose weight, I haven't got a particular target xx

in reply to

Welcome :) Maybe take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, it's a good place to start. Also, rather than thinking of an overall goal, how about setting an initial goal, e.g. to lose 1 stone. The NHS BMI checker is a good guide to a healthy weight for your height, and will tell you how many calories per day will help you lose 1-2lbs a week. Good luck getting started :)

Hi Leeds230,

Like the others have said, we wish you a Very Warm welcome and it's great you've decided to join us. You've taken the brave step of posting your weight, and hopefully you'll be lighter by this time next week, all being well. Then you'll have achieved your first target! Good luck!

I know you're using Myfitnesspal, but wondered if you've also seen the NHS 12 week plan, as it does offer a good structure and advice, and using it alongside Myfitnesspal and this forum is an excellent combination!

Next Monday Prin will be posting the weigh-in thread, so please look out for her name. I usually post it, but I'm going to be away on holiday, and I'll be back for the weigh-in at the start of October.

I hope you'll still be here with us by then, and hopefully you'll be even lighter by then!

Hi everyone,

Just to say I'm going to sleep in a minute, so will say 'night night' and hope everyone has had a great day. I will be posting a 'reminder thread' mid-week (Wednesday morning) just to let people know that Prin is posting our Monday weigh-in group thread next week. I know there may be some people who haven't read today's thread, and therefore might be looking for my name next week - so a reminder mid-week thread will help them to find you all next week. But if you happen to see anyone looking for the thread, then I hope you'll point them in the right direction. I know you will. :-)

Any late night weighers, please post your update, as there will be someone around, or if not, then your response will be replied to tomorrow for definite.

Night night,

Glad you were able to post your results today - that's a fantastic loss for your first week - Congratulations! Really great that you've lost 4 pounds. :-)

Good morning Fab 5,

So sorry to be a day late to the party already on my first week back! Firstly congrats Lowcal on your loss and best wishes for a great break in France.

I did weigh-in yesterday but never got a chance to check in with everyone but did manage to lose 1lb taking me to 11 stones 2 pounds - not too disappointed as feeling a bit 'hormonal' and also had a very busy weekend socially with a few too many visits to the buffet table!!

I will look out for Prin's post next Monday and try my best to post on the correct day!

Have a great week everyone.

Thanks so much for your kind words, I am looking forward to my holiday. Not long now...! Very hectic morning so far, but it's always like that when trying to get ready for a break away.

Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, and I can definitely appreciate how good that is when you've been feeling a bit hormonal, and had such a busy weekend socially too - defnitely an achievement in those circumstances, so well done you! :-)

I'll look forward to catching up with you when I get back in early October.

Have a great couple of weeks inbetween, and glad you'll be posting with Prin and the Fab 5'ers next week. Good luck, and hope you have another good result.

Lowcal :-)

Hi, No weight loss for me again this week still 13st 1lb. Been thinking about it and although I am eating healthier than I have for a long time I think it's the nights that are letting me down. I don't sleep well and it's during the night that I feel the hunger pangs. So I need to work on a way to stop the snacking when I am up during the night.

I even did an 8 mile bike ride on Sunday. I'd forgotten how uncomfortable a bike seat can be, but I was reminded about that yesterday. :-D

I am glad that I haven't put any weight on which is at least something.

So on with this week and lets see if I can crack the snacking at night.

Good luck everyone for this week.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi 20Voices,

Great to see you again, and it's good that you've been able to consider the challenge of your snacking at night-time. Congratulations on maintaining your weight again this week - you lost 2 pounds the week before last, and you've managed not to put any of that back on, so you are maintaining well. But I know you would like to lose - and I really hope you see a loss very soon.

Has your tummy recovered after getting sore from the Highland hustle class? I know you had postponed it last week, so hope you are feeling better by now.

Maybe if you think about the night-time snacking and consider what things you could try to distract yourself from snacking, and instead do something else - maybe write some possibilities down on a list, and then work your way through that list when you need to utilise it. Pre-planning this list of possible distractions is important, because you'll be less likely to be able to think clearly enough in the night-time, and will probably feel more vulnerable to snacking as a result. So be pre-armed with your list, and try different things out to see how they work.

You probably won't want to do anything too stimulating though, because basically your hope would be to sleep.

You could try allowing yourself a milky drink that you could sip slowly, which would be warming and comforting and not too calorific, but would be conducive to sleep - warm milk can be very comforting. Liquid can fill up your tummy and make it feel fuller, without contributing too many calories - soups work very well too, but you might not fancy a soup - but would be better than over-eating other highly calorific foods.

Sorry for the very long response! Didn't realise how much I'd written.

Remember that Prin will be posting the thread next Monday (28th Sept) and I'll look forward to catching up with you when I get back in early October from my holiday.

Good luck for a great week ahead.

Hi I'm just starting...is it true that I would need 1400 calories per day to lose weight? But even if I'm only 5'0? Wouldn't it be less?

Staring weight 11 stone 3.8 lbs Goal weight 9 stone 2 lbs.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to inherworld

Hi Inherworld,

A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us. Regarding the recommended calorie range, I would recommend you look at the NHS BMI Counter (just follow the links to that page via the icon 'Weigh Loss NHS' in the middle centre of the screen above to get there), and you can input your age, weight, and energy level, and it will give you a range.

Alternatively you could use the app Myfitnesspal and input the same things to get their suggested range - hopefully that would be very similar...! The advantage of using Myfitnesspal is that you can easily track your calorie intake and exercise etc, and it will let you know how you are doing each day. It's free to use and easy to use, once you get used to it.

You've shared your weight and goal today, and I'd like to wish you every success with your weight loss journey. The NHS 12 week plan is really good, so I would also recommend looking at that - but whatever you decide to do, I hope you enjoy it, and hopefully we'll see you for future Monday weigh-ins, and out and about on the forum. It's a friendly and encouraging place. Lots of support available.

Next Monday's weigh-in (28th Sept) will be posted by Prin, as I am on holiday, so please look out for her name if you want to join in this Monday weigh-in group on 28th September.

I'll be back for the following weigh-in on 5th October.

All the best,

Lowcal :-)

in reply to inherworld

Hi Inherworld,

I suggest using Myfitnesspal as well. I found it very useful to set the goals to know how many calories I should be looking at each day. Don't worry if you are over the calories to start with it is a good way to check what you are eating. You get used to filling it in, but it only works if you are truly honest about what you are eating including your snacks and how many cups of coffee & tea you are drinking each day with sugar added.

Good luck.

20Voices.

It is nice to see that there is also a good amount of weight lost each week on this thread.

I have been away in Wales seeing Mr Boo Boo's extended family. We are back now. I have been eating homemade welsh cakes, (I just finished another two. There is another two in the fridge :-s) biscuits, noodles x3 and quite a bit of good food too - just slip that in there. I am afraid of weighing myself.. I do need to know where I am though. Another meeting with Mr Boo Boo's extended family in London this weekend. I was hoping to be well in the 16's, but that is not going to happen. Doh! Maybe I set myself a too unrealistic goal. I am loosing weight, it is just so slow....

I am going to spend the next couple of days to get back on track and stripe away those unrealistic thoughts, find more patience inside me. I will post my weigh in next Monday.
