Today is the first day of the rest of my life!

Hi everyone,

9 weeks ago today I received my second total knee replacement. The first one was 7 months previous. Today I can walk pain free for a considerable distance. It is a life changing experience and means that my place between the rock and a hard place has opened up for me! After being in pain and on high strength pain killers for years....about 11 altogether....I can't believe my luck! Now I can exercise and start to get my weight under control. I have an induction at my local gym on Wednesday and can't wait to get started....ask your GP about exercise on prescription. Watch this space for further updates. Good luck everyone.

Fab is an understatement. I feel on top of the world!

Good morning juju152. I met a lady on the south downs at the beginning of the summer who had had both knees replaced. She said she went up there every day, massive hikes in the mist, limbering over stiles etc. I was so impressed. But your post makes me realise the replacements aren't something you do exercise despite having, they're your passport to exercise. Good luck with your gym induction and getting started with weight loss. Good to hear you can put that pain behind you now :)

Hi Ruth

Thank you for replying. Pain is a terrible condition and as you say I can put that being me and live my life with a new vibe. I can honestly say my quality of life is better already. Now I am looking forward to getting back to work and using the stairs instead of the goods lift. I hope this will encourage people who are considering the risk of a major operation against the constant pain of osteoarthritis of the knees.

This is really inspiring for me. Hoping to convince consultant to do a hip replacement. I'm young but getting fatter by the day through lack of exercise. The thought of pain free exercise is bliss! Good to hear how well it's going for you :0)

Hi Juju152,

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of this community. I think it's a very friendly and supportive place.

It's great to hear that you're rehabilitating so well after your second total knee replacement, and very inspiring for others who might be considering such an operation.

I hope you enjoy your induction session at the gym on Wednesday, and looking forward to hearing your further updates.

Lowcal :-)

Hi folks, I've just returned from my gym induction and feel very proud of myself. I managed to use all of the equipment the trainer showed me and can't wait for a normal session when I'll be able to do the repetitions and length of time he recommended. The only concern I have is that they hold specific sessions for GP referrals and as I'm due to return to work in a couple of weeks I'm not sure I'll be able to attend enough of the sessions to get enough benefit. But onwards and upwards, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Hope you're all fine.

Love from me to you.
