Bad day

Had a not so good day today. Woke up and found that my hip/upper thigh was hurting (possibly due to muscle tension or strain) which obviously meant I couldnt go outside to do exercise or even go for a walk which left me feeling quite deflated and sad. I felt sort of trapped in my little house and this of course led me to the fridge and I had a few too many snacks that I definitely shouldn't have had.

I have always been an emotional eater and over the past few weeks I have felt so positive and happy (brought on by my weight loss and new found love for exercise) so today when I couldn't continue my daily routine it led to feelings of despair which obviously led to eating.

Does anyone have any tips for getting through these tough times? What do you do when things don't go your way and it throws you off balance?

Can anyone recommend any low impact cardio exercises that would be less likely to result in muscle strain?

Thanks everyone & here's to a hopefully better Friday + weekend. :)

What exercises do you do at the moment? Are you a member of a gym?

Hello by the way

I go running between 2-3 times a week, but I always have a rest day in between and stretch before I go and do a warm up/cool down and then in between on my days off I do either yoga or Pilates usually.

Spend some time going through various stretch exercises, there's a good page on the NHS livewell pages, or maybe search out ones specifically relating to the types of exercise you're doing. Also try to replace the comfort eating with comfort bathing. Have a long soak with mineral bath salts and generally try to rest and recover. Then maybe re-appraise your stretching routine for future exercise so it doesn't happen again. Speedy recovery and take care :)

Thank you, I always stretch before doing any exercise so I can't understand why I've got an injury, I also always warm up and cool down before/after running too. I will try your idea about having a bath instead of eating, that sounds like it might work! I think I eat because I hate feeling complacent and I just want to do something. Hoping this feeling will go away when I'm busy back at uni again.

Thanks for your support :)

There are so many different types of stretches. I notice that you often post on here about exercise which makes me think you do quite a lot! It's good to develop stretches that especially suit your own exercise regime. This is one I was recently advised to do for hips/bum area (called the 'pigeon pose'). I never knew I even had muscles there, but apparently you do, and they need to be stretched too! youtube.com/watch?v=FVlX5HN...

Thank you, I think I remember this one from some of my yoga! I will take a look around and research some specific stretches, thank you so much for your help :)

Ruth sorted my leg problems with the stretching suggestions...honestly, thought I was dying from the hips down! A day away from the exercise was also a ruth suggestion which worked for me too....good look girl at midnight! 😃hope the pain subsides soon.

Thank you :) I always take a rest day in between work outs and stretch and such so I'm not sure why I'm now injured, just my luck I guess, just as I get into a routine! This morning it is a bit aches but I'm not getting sharp pains anymore so hopefully it will repair itself and I'll try to rest it as much as possible today but I have to go out later and then tomorrow I have to be on my feet all day. Fingers crossed everything will be okay! :)
