Sausages, yum...

β€’16 Replies

Concerned wrote a post today about preservative free sausages, it got me inspired to make some as I haven't done so for yonks. Now I didn't have any skins in the freezer so I decided to make sausage patties instead. They are now resting and 'curing' in the fridge and a tray full open freezing ready to bag later ( they will be easy to just take 1 or 2 out of the freezer this way - no sticking together).

Tomorrow morning will see them cooked and 'burgered' between huge mushrooms and topped with a poached egg for breakfast. If they taste good, I will post the recipe along with calories. πŸ”

I hope they live up to the hype, I will be seriously let down if the taste doesn't match my thought, lol. πŸ˜‰

When we were children our Christmas day breakfast treat was my mum's homemade sausage patties. The first year my sister got married she came round to see my mum crying because her husband didn't understand that she needed sausage patties on Christmas morning and that bought sausages just weren't good enough! It was probably a sign that a few years later they would get divorced! I haven't eaten meat for nearly 30years, but i still love making fish cakes the way that my mum always used to. I'm now feeling hungry, I might have to.go and make some fishcakes.

You will flossie!! It does help to have a love of making food as well as eating it, lol. I am the very sad home geek who has collected cookery books for over 30 years and reads them like most would read a novel. I am addicted to making people happy with feeding them good homemade food. In the past that included huge quantities of this food. Nowadays I still cook the wonderful recipes I have by the shelfload and which I invent /adapt myself, but the quantity is reduced. This forum is a way of me still feeding people, new found 'friends' to dine with at an online table.

Hey, you may even start posting your own recipes! Happy cooking in a healthy way hun. ☺️

Love watching cookery programmes and eating whatever someone else has cooked !!

I can't even get a banana cake right and have been told it's the easiest thing in the world !!

Keep the inspiration coming

Thats called a rissole in Australia - not the same in the UK?

in reply to Dave1961

I think it may depend on which part of the UK you come from, to me a rissole is more a meat stuffed mashed potato cake thingy, lol. It is only ever made with leftovers so the stuffing could be a bit of meat stew, leftover sunday roast, veggies n gravy. It is usually shallow fried and sometimes has a breadcrumb coating. It can be flattened or cylinder shape.

It's a good, tasty bit of frugality on a plate.

I must make sure todays dinner leaves me with leftovers...................
