Losing weight for me.

Ive tried numerous diets over the years and have failed continuously.im very conscious of my weight as my ex was forever putting me down i have no self confidence and losing weight will help me feel better about myself.i suffer from depression so that contributes to my over eating.

Hi Coco, welcome to the forum....there's so much I want to type about your ex but it will only get censored! Everyone on this forum will support you and guide you if you ask for help. My very top tip is to post and reply to posts. Any time. It will do many things from getting you in the zone to giving you the confidence to know that you can do it because you have like minded forum friends who care for you and want you to succeed. your amongst friends...enjoy being here!

Hi cocochanelred, leave those hurtful comments behind you. Everyone is beautiful, life is so precious. Lose weight under your own terms, and feel the confidence grow because you are taking control, don't delay the confidence until you reach a point your ex wouldn't have criticised you for. Life is for living now. That being said, this weight loss lark does take a lot of patience! Have you taken a look at the NHS 12 week plan? Also just read around on here, lots of useful tips and ideas and loads of friendly folk. Welcome :)

I can so understand your hurt and pain. I have been obese or overweight since I was kid and weathered years of bullying and abuse for being fat which only serves to drive you further down into yourself and eat even more for comfort.

I tried many many different antidepressants in the 4 decades I have battled depression - including a bottle of vodka a day (not the best!) :) - but I finally found relief in January this year after I started taking around 1000mg a day of magnesium.

I was actually taking it to help with a heart condition - which it did - but a happy result was that about 6 weeks after I started taking it my depression started to lift.

As I realized it had to be the magnesium I found out it helps with man y many functions in the body including the production of dopamine and serotonin.

I have a PDF of a book you may find useful called The Magnesium Miracle - I can email it to you if you send me a mail with your external email address - can't use attachments on the health unlocked email.

Make a pact with yourself to do at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, for 30 days. You will find as time progresses it will get easier and by the time you get to 30 days you will be looking forward to it. I know. I finished my 30 days last week! :)

Myfitnesspal is a fantastic app to use for counting calories, logging food, it scans barcodes, imports web recipes and its free - many of us use it and love it :)

Welcome on board and as Celo would say - when you are thinking about the ex just sing "Forget you" to yourself - and I think you know what word replaces forget in that song! :D

You have already lost a lot of unwanted weight, CC - a whole adult (and I use the term loosely) person's weight. Promise yourself, and us, that you will never fraternize with people who treat you this way. Rant over! Rafts of advice and support here: healthy choices, portion control, calorie counting and exercise (exercise is a good mood-lifter) - oh, and dogged perseverance (the tricky one!). You can do it :D

Re exercise being a mood lifter, it can also be a great way to vent the stuff that goes round in your head making you feel bad. I took up boxing at one point (very briefly!) and visualised a particularly nasty ex-boss as I punched away. Great for both the body and the mind!

Well done for making a start and doing it for yourself, that is the most important thing. Remember be kind to yourself and plan everything in advanced so this helps take out all the stress and pressure off you.

Enjoy your journey and I'm sure you will soon be starting to feel better.

Forget about old ex as he obviously wasn't good enough for you.

I am the same as you and have tried many diets over the years, some don't wok and some work but are hard to keep the weight off.

Have you got a diet plan in mind to follow?

Losing weight certainly does boost your self confidence and along the way I'm sure you will meet new friends who can support you with your weight loss journey.

I also have suffered from depression, partly due to my weight problems, however I am now near that light at the end of the tunnel. I have nearly battled my depression and losing weight helped to do this. However It still rears its ugly head from time to time trying to drag me into the black hole I just feel I'm stronger now to fight against it.

Losing weight is my life saver in more ways than one, it gives me something to focus on.

Any questions, help, advice, or a random chat, you can talk to me anytime.

You have made the first step, you just need to carry on puttting one foot in front of the other and keep going :)
