So this is my first step to getting rid of the baby weight I gained nearly 8 and a half years ago. Hoping I can engage my willpower and stick with the plan

Good luck, you will do well now that you have made the decision to change

Not only do you need to do this for yourself you need to do this for your family.

Its time to think about YOURSELF for a change and make changes to your health so you can be the best you that you can be.

I know you can do this - I have copied and pasted from another couple posts - I hope you don't mind.

Thats great.

A few things you should try.

1. Download Myfitnesspal. It is a GODSEND and absolutely free. Counts calories, scans barcodes, even imports recipes from the web and calculates the calories.

2. Plan, plan, plan. When you don't have a healthy snack nearby or are stumped on what to cook for dinner it is WAY too easy to go off the rails. I plan my menu for 7 days and even order online so the supermarket delivers...and its one less chance for an impulse buy!. Sure I might deviate a meal here or there - that sometimes can't be helped - BUT having it ready and raring to go has made losing weight so much easier for me.

3. Commit to a 30 day plan to exercise every day. Whether its a 30 minute walk or a 20 minute jog or a bicycle ride or swimming some laps do it for 30 days, rain, hail, sleet or shine, sickness - no excuses. I guarantee when you to that 30th day you will be someone who now WANTS to exercise.

Good luck - can't wait to hear how you go!

P.S. If you want to join in we have a weigh in every Monday for a whole pile of us - @Lowcal will post first thing and you just add in your figures if you want :)

I echo Dave,

myfitnesspal is great. Are you doing nhs 12 week plan? It is balanced and doable and trains you into a healthier eating plan for life.

Also coming here is great for motivation, encouragment, inspiration and advice.

Good luck with your weight loss journey

Welcome and well done for taking the first most important step.

Totally agree with everyone about My Fitness Pal. I use it to not only log my food, which is totally invaluable, I also use it to look up calories before I decide to eat something to 1. See if I think the calorie content is worth it 2. Make sure I have enough calories left.

I'm at the beginning of a long journey, so jump aboard, and enjoy the ride.

This is the start of the new you.

Thank you everybody for your kind advice and encouragement. I am currently following the NHS 12 week plan I am now on day 3 and feeling positive. There is so much conflicting information out there on whether to eat carbs or whether to go low carb or high protein and I get very confused so I feel at least with the 12 week plan I'm not cutting anything out. I have started cycling to work and I am trying to do yoga most nights with 7 minute workout every other day as I can't afford a gym pass. I will check out the fitness pal app as that sounds helpful. I have been making lunch to take into work to save grabbing what's available at work and I also keep a bag of fruit and nuts incase I get hungry but I'm actually not feeling that hungry as I've upped my water intake...I'm going on a bit now I know!! :-)
