A nice cup of tea..

After a wonderful break from work, Friday nights shiift eased me back with a 'soft' 13 hours. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said for last night, 10 out of 14 hours of sheer hell. I am sporting a sprained wrist and a whopping bruise that is going to be gloriously technicoloured at some point. In spite of last nights nightmare, I am looking to the bright side and counting yesterday as a good day. You see I managed to sleep for 5 hours straight ( not good at day sleeping and usually only manage a total of 3 hours spread out), and my food intake was spot on.

This morning I have made myself some griddled sliced tomatoes and scrambled eggs. I am eating them outside in the sunshine with the best tonic in the world ( to me), a hot cup of wonderfully strong tea. There are many things in life that have a positive effect after a negative, for me the top of the list is tea.

Time for a quick shower and bed, hopefully to sleep well enough for tonights shift. Roll on Monday morning.

P.S. For my griddled tomatoes I thickly slice 2 large tomatoes and sprinkle a good teaspoon of cornmeal or polenta over and season with black pepper. Lightly grease a griddle and cook for a few minutes each side. They have a wonderful bite to them. 😊

Well done for staying so positive (and rather zen!) after what sounds like a very trying night, that sprained wrist sounds painful. Have you had it x-rayed to be sure it's not broken? Also I'm sure you don't need to be told but apply lots of ice.

Those griddled tomatoes sound ace. I'm really into oven baked cherry tomatoes at the moment, just a few minutes in a very hot oven until they split, really delicious. They fill the gap where ketchup used to sit on the plate and of course are much more healthy and filling. Enjoy your tea and hopefully you can spend the rest of your weekend being more relaxed :)

I have hand/wrist splints for both hands as they have been damaged many times over the last few years Ruth, injury is par for the course where I work unfortunately. Stupidly, last night I wasn't wearing them as I had laundered them and forgot to put them back in my work bag - not a mistake I will make again!! I also average a couple of bruises every week, lol, though usually not quite the size of the one I am now sporting. Staff illness meant agency which always equals a rough shift as you have to put yourself between them and the danger. Most of us have worked with our clients to read them well and know when to back off fast, right down to a slight facial movement, triggers, etc...

I am hoping for a good shift tonight. As usual I have not slept well today, I much prefer it to rain in the day when I am between shifts as the world and his dog tend to stay indoors and it is quieter and darker. Wow, what a misery guts I sound!

Weigh in tomorrow, gulp. 😄

Sounds like a well earned moment in a frantic weekend. Full of admiration

Thankyou Gonti. We had one new starter at work a few months ago who lasted 3 hours of 1 shift, as she was leaving the premises she kept on repeating we were all mad, crazy for working there. She had a point, it takes a certain amount of crazy to do what my colleagues and I do. That said, as challenging as the job is, I love my work and it would take something very drastic to happen for me to walk away from it. We are the 'last chance saloon' for our client base and to know it is because of our dedication that they can move on to an adult service placement instead of a drug induced psych unit for the rest of their lives is major personal reward.

Yikes, getting heavy here. Sorry. 😱

Not heavy it is amazing how a weight loss program gets you thinking about all sorts of things. Your work sounds amazing, it has been a while since I was lucky enough to have the kind of work that offered those rewards :I can see that it must be a real challenge to figure out healthy eating and healthy living with all that going on but that it is definitely worth the effort. I hope your employees have mechanisms to help you all deal with stress. Have a fun week

SO so proud of you for sticking to your plan despite having such a full on few days! I bet you will be so happy when you get to weigh in knowing you have given it your very best! And I know what shift work is like and how hard it can be sleeping during the day. I remember many moons ago having nothing but a fan and trying to sleep when it was 35C outside!

And geez love you should be getting danger money!

Those tomatoes sound ace - I am going to try them definitely!

Thanks Dave. I have made it through the weekend and the wrist is doing ok, last nights shift was a good one too. Weighed in this morning and have lost 1 1/2 lb, not fantastic but a loss all the same. Hope your week goes well 😊

Sorry to hear about your wrist, that's not good.

I agree, tea is the best tonic in the world, nothing beats it and drunk outside is amazing and helps to calm and relax everything.

Hope you have a great week.

Thankyou hun, hope your week goes well too. The wrist isn't too bad, just a bit achy. Not back on shift until Wednesday now so time to heal before heading back into the fray, lol. 😊

Remember rest and chill so you are ready for the fray.

I prescribe copious amounts of tea and relaxation x
