Today, now!

Enough is enough! Come on girl, no more excuses, you want to feel good and wear those lovely dresses that still have their price tags on. I am now making a promise to myself to look after me.

Thats great.

Whats your plan?

Download the Myfitnesspal app now - its awesome with calorie counting and really makes it a breeze.

Research shows that you have a MUCH higher chance of losing weight if you count calories and are strict with portion sizes - just in the first month or so.

The reason we are fat is because we have totally lost perspective on these two things.

Get those back in control and the job is half done :)

Hi Portland Princess! You've got to put your real self first! Not the immediate emotional reasoning which does not serve us well.

You can do this.

Get a plan - NHS12week is where a lot of us are! work your way onto it - you have to learn, adjust, let your body adapt and you'll be amazed where you can be in a few weeks!

Safely downloaded the plan. Any ideas on how to encourage a 'feeder' husband to get with the plan? He's very fit healthy but loves cooking?

Thanks Andrew, will take a look and catch up.

Welcome to the forum. We are all facing the same challenge. To get to a healthy weight.

You will get lots of encouragement here. We cheer each other on as we share successes and challenges. It's great that you have started too

Are you still there 'hidden?'

I think people become hidden when they close their account

Thank you! It's a really big challenge. I'm determined to be healthy and feel good. Hope you're doing well. First day in and walked for miles. My 'weak spot' is evening time. So here goes. I' going to not eat in front of the telly. Big bad habit for me.

in reply to Portlandprincess

You can have snacks so long as you plan for them and count them in. Why not save calories by eating less at meals for the evening snacks and enjoy them, guilt free.

Took your advice and had snacks planned. Thanks yoyo. Am celebrating over next few days. Married 30 years on the 17th. So any advice.....

Happy anniversary!

Same thing applies really. Forward plan . Be mindful. If I was you I would cut down my daily allowance by 100 calories for 5 days and save them for your celebration. If you eat a modest but high protein breakfast , have a low calorie low carb lunch ( eg a tuna salad.) Then enjoy your celebration. You can still be a bit mindful about your choices but you don't have to deny yourself. 30 years calls for a celebration. !

A word of warning re alcohol. It is high calorie. Again be mindful plan it in. Maybe drink more water and have a glass of wine with your main.

You can do this!

Alcohol is an Achilles heal of mine. Once under the influence I'm eating for England! Will follow your advice! Are you doing well?

in reply to Portlandprincess

I am doing quite well. You can click on my name and read my page to see my struggle is not so much to lose weight but to keep it off. I got a wake up call a couple of weeks ago and faced up to having gained 6.9kg in 3.5 months. Having lost a similar amount not so long ago.

I started on nhs plan and lost nearly 4lbs the first week. And have definitely lost inches as my clothes are feeling so much better. I am hoping for another 2lbs or so at weigh in tomorrow.

I am learning this is for life and the nhs 12 week plan is really good as it is training us for real life.

Hope you get on ok this week. But if your celebration takes you over your limits and you fall off the wagon. Pick yourself up, and get straight back on it. We all need celebration in our lives.

Yes it needs to be today because tomorrow never comes. All us dieters know that. Good luck and tell yourself that you can do it.

Well, not good as we went away for three days to celebrate our thirtieth anniversary, but today was horrified to see I've touched the next stone marker! So for today I have lived on fruit tea. Feeling good as I wanted to get week away from that number on the scales. My knees hurt when I walk down the stairs and it's time to stop this nonsense. So, I've downloaded all twelve weeks and will weigh in Mondays. Congrats on the seven lbs. you do rock! I'll be following in your footsteps.
