Hey!

Have you checked how many calories you need to eat in order to lose weight? There are online calculators such as this one if you need one:

mayoclinic.org/calorie-calc...

That will tell you how many calories you should eat in order to lose 2 pounds a week, which would mean that at by around Christmas you could reach your goal.

Exercising an hour every day is not as easy at it might sound. If you can, go for it! But if you are not used to training, perhaps you should make a schedule that you can be certain that you can manage. The most important thing is changing your food habits and learning to be active enough throughout the week, whether you reach your goal by Christmas or not, that will set you on track to a healthy life.

Good luck with the weight loss!

Why 9 St that's rather light for your height?!

I'm the same height and 9 stone 2, size 10.

We are @ opposite ends of the scale I am 11st at the mo, and generally a 10 but sometimes a 12 and sometimes an 8! Frame must have a lot to do with it!? Range is 9st 2 to 11 St 6!

I thought that. The lightest I've been is 9'7 when I was a size 8 and had an eating disorder. I'm 5'2. Sometimes I worry about goal weights as they encourage me to become unhealthy in pursuit of 'a healthy weight'. Just something to be aware of.

Hi there, of course it is achievable. As long as you are disciplined in your approach, you WILL do it. On a calorie controlled diet and exercise regime I lost 3 stone in about 5 months early last year. And, I've maintained it for a year now. I was 15.5 stone and am now 12.5 stone. It's hard at the time but is doable with self discipline. And, of course, you can have the odd treat. Go for it. But, be prepared to have to buy a new wardrobe!!! Best wishes.

I lost three stone in six months on the 5:2 Diet. Two non-consecutive days at 500 calories or less and the rest of the week try to stay under your TDEE - there's a calculator on this page thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-...

I lost three stone in six months a long time ago: so yes, it's possible. I didn't count calories or follow any magic diet. There were no apps or websites at the time. I decided to be healthy and change my lifestyle, and weight loss was an automatic and happy consequence. I 'just' cut out the alcohol, processed food and other crap, ate three balanced meals per day, walked or cycled to uni and took one day at a time. Hey presto, 10 stone for 5 foot 8 six months later. When I let the old habits creep back, my weight went back up and I've just lost one and a half stone with the same "method", and C25K, which I recommend. Check that your target weight isn't too low - it depends very much on your frame.

There is no such thing as healthy eating if it's less than 1500 calories a day. And an hour of exercise a day is also a bad idea.

This strategy may result in short-term results, but it's a prescription for metabolic disaster in the long term, including thyroid dysfunction, which can cause weight gain and inability to lose weight for the rest of your life.

Is a short term goal really worth it?

I write as one who damaged my metabolism by starvation diets (low calorie and very low carb) and excessive exercise. I gained back all the weight I had lost, plus an additional 80 pounds, and have been experiencing the struggle of a lifetime, trying to get healthy again. If I could go back in time and give my younger self any advice, it would be what I've just shared with you.

I wish you all the best in life, health, and happiness.
