Stage 1; doing it alone.

Hello all. My name is Natasha, I am 17 years of age and started my weight loss journey three weeks ago. After moving 190 miles away from friends, I started my new life. It was scary at first however it became easier when I turned to the only thing that wasn't new to me. Food. After moving last August I gained 15kgs and having been weighed a month ago I was 91.6kgs. Honestly, my heart dropped and after being called obese at the age of 17 I knew I had to do something. I had already been going to a gym since January and a month before this weigh In I had depression and stopped eating. I only ate dinner each day just so my mum wouldn't think there was anything going on. My doctor asked me what I ate and I lied to her too. That Thursday I went ton see someone from the healthy lifestyle hub and that's when I realised how little I was eating and that it was possibly adding more weight on. The following day I started my jourey with planning the weeks meals and going shopping. I even got myself a personal trainer once a week at the gym. Excited to see results, I weighted myself everyday and lost a pound a day for five days. Finally I could see the light! Afer two weeks I had another appointment with the hub and to my surprise had managed to loose 11lbs in 14 days. It is now a week later and I have gained two pounds. I know that I won't loose as much a I did in the first two weeks every time however I did not want to go backwards.

I am new to all of this and would very much appreciate some advise on what to do next.

Thank you for taking the time to read my babble. I just don't want to do this alone anymore.

What are you eating in a typical day? Be honest!!

Today for breakfast I ate a wholemeal bagel toasted with sunflower spread and marmite, with two small oranges.

For lunch I had a salad with two Rye crackers and 7 strawberries

for dinner I am having bolognase with wholewheat pasta and lean beef with tomatoes, carrots, celery, broccoli and onions mixed in the sauce. I plan to have 1tbsp of 50% reduced fat cheese.

Sounds quite good! Maybe watch your portion sizes.

I think you could definitely improve on breakfast. A slice of wholemeal toast has much less calories than a bagel. Maybe add some eggs to fill you up more? I tend to have fruit and yoghurt or poached eggs for my breakfast.

What was in your salad? Did you have any dressing? I would probably abandon the rye crackers if you are already having bread at breakfast and make sure you have some protein in you salad like tuna or grilled chicken.

Dinner sounds good but limit the amount of pasta you have (60g dried) and bulk up on as many veggies as you can).

Do you snack or drink anything other than water?

I am not a fan of eggs but do like scrambled. Is that still okay?

In my salad I had lettuce, cucumber, green pepper, tomato, spring onion and two tea spoons of low fat french dressing.

I sometimes snack on almonds or dried fruit.

I drink cold green tea and lemon/lime water.today I have had roughly 6 pints of liquid.

Scrambled egg is good, just don't add butter.

You definitely need to add something else to your salad as I suggested before.

Swap the dried fruit for fresh, it is much better for you. And only have a small amount of almonds probably a couple of times a week.

Drinks sound ok assuming that the lemon/lime water doesn't have sugar in it?

Not at all. I have also read about swapping jacket potato for sweet potato,is that something you would recommend?

it is meant to be better for you as it has a low GI. I'm having sweet potato for my dinner

I shall get one for dinner tomorrow then ☺

How much weight would an average person (of my weight) be expected to lose a week? No one has ever told me.

You normally lose quite a bit the first week or two and then your body settles down and you should be able to lose between 1 and 2 pounds a week. Good luck
